## What is In?

In Focus answers two questions, and nothing else.

What matters? One list of the threads you're carrying, in the order you decide. Not a score, not a due date — where you put it is how important it is.

What can I do right now? The first next step of every thread you've focused, on one screen: the step to do now on a card at the top, and the rest of the queue under it, in order.

THREADS, NOT PROJECTS

A thread is anything you're carrying that takes more than one step — move house, learn piano, the thing at work you keep half-thinking about. Half of them never finish, which is why they aren't called projects. Give each an icon and a color. Drag to reorder. Focus the few that matter this week and they pin to the top.

Each thread has its next steps, and a Later list for the ideas that aren't ready. Only the next steps ever reach Focus.

LOOSE ENDS

This is the part other apps don't have. When you finish the last ready step of something you've focused, the thread drops into Loose Ends and the tab fills in, because a priority with no next step is a promise you've quietly stopped keeping.

Each loose end shows what you last finished on it and when, so you know what comes next. Type the next step and the keyboard moves to the one below — a whole list cleared in one pass.

WHERE YOU ARE

Give a step a place — Home, Office, Errands — and Focus shows only what you can do there, or everywhere but there. Steps with no place can be done anywhere. An iOS Focus mode can set it for you, so when Work turns on, so does Office. In Focus never asks for your location.

The one reminder In Focus has is its own: an optional daily, weekly or monthly nudge to review your priorities. Off until you turn it on.

SIRI AND SPOTLIGHT

On iOS 27, Siri runs the whole app: what's next, what's loose, add a step, tick one off. Threads and steps are in Spotlight.

IF IT NEEDS A DATE, IT BELONGS IN CALENDAR

Add to Calendar opens Apple's own event editor with the step as the title and a link back to the thread. The step stays where it is, and In Focus never asks for access to your calendar.

FEWER TAPS THAN REMINDERS

• Add a thread and its first step in two taps plus typing.
• Add a next step to any thread from any list, without opening it.
• Swipe to focus, complete, or push a step to the back of the queue.

WHAT'S NOT IN IT

No due dates on anything. No recurrence, tags, sub-tasks, streaks or scores. No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, nothing sold. If it repeats — a habit, a routine, a checklist — it belongs in Redone, our separate app for what repeats.

BUILT FOR IPHONE

Liquid Glass throughout, no third-party code. VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Dark Mode, Increase Contrast and Reduce Motion. Your data lives on your device and mirrors to your own iCloud account — there is no server of mine. Export it all as a file whenever you like.

IN FOCUS PLUS

In Focus is free for 3 active threads, with no time limit. In Focus Plus removes the cap. Nothing else is behind it — not iCloud sync, Later, contexts, Siri or backup.

If a subscription lapses while you have twenty threads, nothing is deleted: your 3 oldest keep working, and the rest stay listed but locked until you subscribe again or archive to make room.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5 — 2026-10-02

A NEW LOOK

Every list is now a set of cards on a soft canvas. A thread's card leads with its name, its next step under it, and the step's place and how many are queued along the bottom. A loose end is outlined, so it stands out at a glance.

ICONS AND COLORS

Give each thread an icon and a color: twenty-one colors, and any SF Symbol, by category or by search. The icon leads the thread's name on Threads, Focus and Loose Ends. Threads you never style look exactly as they did.

FOCUS IS A DECK

Focus is one screen now. The step to do right now is a card on top; the rest of your queue is listed under it, in order, so you can see what follows. Done, Not Now and Skip work as before, and the card swipes like any row.

ONE CONTEXT, MANY STEPS

In a thread, tap Select, tick the steps, and set one context on all of them at once.

PROMOTE IN ONE TAP

A loose end with a step waiting for later shows it as a chip. Tap it and it becomes the next step.

ABOUT THE FREE TIER

In Focus is still free for 3 threads. If you have more without In Focus Plus — after a subscription ends, or from a backup — your 3 oldest keep working and the rest are locked: still listed, and still yours to open, rename, archive or delete, but not worked on until you subscribe or archive to make room. Nothing is ever deleted.

MINOR IMPROVEMENTS AND BUG FIXES

• The thread name is the prominent line on Threads.
• The one-at-a-time cards show the thread's icon above its name.
• Settings ▸ About shows the version number on its own.

### 1.4 — 2026-09-26

LATER

Not every step you think of is ready to be the next one. Each thread now has a Later list below its next steps: park an idea there and it stays out of Focus until you promote it. Finishing the last ready step now makes a focused thread a loose end, even with ideas still waiting — so you decide what comes next instead of the queue deciding for you. Move a step either way from its long-press menu.

A SHARPER FOCUS FILTER

The context picker on Focus can now pick several places at once, or everywhere except some — "Home or Errands", or "anything but Office". Steps with no context can be left in or out.

BACK UP AND RESTORE

Settings ▸ Data exports every thread, step and context as one JSON file, and imports it back — merged with what's here, adding only what's missing, or replacing everything.

SEARCH

Search on Threads finds a thread by its name or by any of its open steps.

WORKS WITH REDONE

Redone, our app for what repeats, can show your Focus list on its Today screen. In Focus keeps a copy on your iPhone that only the two apps can read; nothing leaves the device. Turn it off in Settings ▸ Redone.

MINOR IMPROVEMENTS AND BUG FIXES

• The Loose Ends tab's red is now optional (Settings ▸ Loose Ends), and the tab is an outline while nothing is loose.
• In one-at-a-time Loose Ends, Hide Keyboard puts the keyboard away and it stays away as you skip.
• A tidier Settings, with the last iCloud sync and any sync error shown under iCloud.
• Archive is orange, not red — it's always reversible.

### 1.3 — 2026-09-22

CONTEXTS: WHERE A STEP CAN BE DONE

Give a step a place — Home, Office, Errands — and tell Focus where you are. It shows, for each focused thread, the first step you can do there, skipping the ones that need somewhere else. A step with no context can be done anywhere, so nothing changes until you make one. Contexts live in Settings ▸ Contexts, are set from a step's long-press menu or the step editor, and sync with your other devices. Siri reads them too.

An iOS Focus mode can pick the context for you. Add the In Focus filter to a Focus in iOS Settings ▸ Focus, and the tab follows it: when your Work Focus turns on, so does Office. In Focus never asks for your location — the Focus mode carries it.

A NEW ICON

Three arrows, one of them in focus. Same emerald, in light, dark and tinted, and on the Liquid Glass icon.

MINOR IMPROVEMENTS AND BUG FIXES

Long notes on a thread start compact, with More / Less, instead of scrolling inside the list. Fixes to the context editor.

### 1.2 — 2026-09-20

A REMINDER TO REVIEW
In Focus can now nudge you to look over your priorities and tie up any loose ends. Turn it on in Settings ▸ Review and pick daily, weekly, or monthly and a time. It's off until you turn it on, and it's the app's only notification. Tapping it opens Loose Ends when there are any, Threads when there aren't.
DRAG TO REORDER THREADS
Every thread on the Threads tab now has the three-line grabber, so reordering within In Focus or Backlog is a drag on the handle instead of a long press on the title. The Backlog section is always shown, so you can always see where a thread will go when you unfocus it.
Plus bug fixes and improvements.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-19

SIRI RUNS IN FOCUS

On iOS 27, ask Siri for your next step, start a thread, add a step, focus something, tick a step off, or archive a thread you're done carrying — out loud, without opening the app. Your threads and open steps are in Spotlight too, so search finds them.

ONE THING AT A TIME

A button on Focus swaps the list for a single card: the thread, the step, and nothing else on the screen. Done brings the next one. Not Now pushes the step back. Skip to Next Thread moves on without changing anything.

Loose Ends has the same card now, and the list behind it shows what you last finished on each thread and when — so you know what the next step should be before you type it. The return key says what it will do: Next while there are rows below it, Done on the last one.

IF IT NEEDS A DATE, IT BELONGS IN CALENDAR

Now you don't have to retype it to get it there. Add to Calendar opens Apple's own event editor with the step as the title, the thread in the notes, and a link back to the thread. Share Step sends it to Reminders, Messages, or anywhere else you'd put it. The step stays exactly where it was, either way. In Focus never asks for access to your calendar and never reads anything back.

STEPS EDIT IN A SHEET

Adding or editing a step now happens in a small sheet with one field, so the keyboard stops covering the thing you're typing into and a stray tap can't tick off a step. Tap a step to edit it, or the + beside "Next steps" to add one. Long titles wrap instead of getting cut off.

MINOR IMPROVEMENTS AND BUG FIXES

Archive moved off the swipe on Focus and into the menu, where it can't be mistaken for archiving the step. Every thread with no next step left now shows the Loose Ends mark. Tighter step rows, clearer menu labels, and fixes to how quickly Siri and Spotlight see what you've changed.
