### 3/5 — OBBB Senior Deduction Phase out isn’t working

*2025-09-22, version 2025.5*

The change for the new Senior Deduction of $6000 per tax payer 65+ isn’t working. The deduction is supposed to be reduced 6% per dollar over the threshold. If the MAGI for a MFJ couple, both 65, was $160,000, the deduction should be reduced by $600. The calculator is reducing the deduction by $9600. Can’t figure out what it’s doing.

I’ve been a satisfied user of this app for years. Hope this gets fixed soon

### 4/5 — A bug?

*2022-02-26, version 2022.2*

If I enter 90,000 for earned income and select Joint I get a higher tax estimate than when I add a capital gain of 10,000 (for a gross of $100k).

### 5/5 — Great for planning and doubling checking

*2022-02-07, version 2022.2*

I like TaxMode because I can use it all year long for planning because it is fast and easy to use. I like the Full Mode. I also find it to be a very useful “double check” before I efile my Federal Income tax return, which is done with a different app.

### 4/5 — Very handy and quick tax estimator

*2021-11-29, version 2022.1*

Easy to input data and results are shown immediately in one simple list. Can also show you what the values are on most lines on 1040 form.

One thing I found missing: charitable contributions, even when taking standard deduction. Singles can take up to $300 and married filing jointly take $600 adjustment to income. See line 10b on 1040 form. Fix that and it’s a five star app.

### 5/5 — Quick and accurate back of the napkin tax computation

*2020-11-11, version 2021.2*

Best tax app I have ever used. Incredibly intuitive, easy and accurate US Form 1040 tax app. Love it!

### 3/5 — Daily fix?

*2020-01-23, version 2020.8*

In the past 3 weeks you’ve pushed out 8 “updates” for what is essentially a calculator.

Really?

How difficult can this be?

### 5/5 — Free and very helpful, I LOVE it

*2019-04-21, version 2019.11*

I HATE iphone (all apple products) since most of the apps are deceptive. This is one of very few apps that are FREE and does what it says without hidden or subscription fees.

This whole IRS paying income tax is expensive, hard and stressful enough. This app quickly helps put my mind at ease when trying to figure out estimated income tax payments. I am forever grateful for this!!

### 5/5 — Perfect!

*2019-02-11, version 2019.10*

Nice app for tax planning. I like the pie mode for results displayed. It provides the overall analysis and has the bottom line results as well.

### 5/5 — Wonderful app

*2019-02-11, version 2019.10*

Well designed for quick income tax planning. Unique feature that provides the computations behind a tax result when you tap on it is especially helpful adding confidence to calculations.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2019-02-11, version 2019.10*

Very nifty app on my iPhone that is readily available for quick tax comps. or comparisons. Tax results seem pretty accurate.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2019-02-09, version 2019.10*

I use it often for quick tax comps. It is very easy to use and provides fully-supported results. It provides choice for 3 tax years that is helpful in analyzing income allocation between two years. Excellent job.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — AVOID..broken..no tech support

*2026-02-01, version 2026.2*

Takes your money but no premium features and no apple refund. Unusable with adds. Developer does not respond nor fix the problem. Apple does not refund.

### 1/5 — Can’t seem to get beyond ad minefield?

*2025-12-27, version 2026.1*

If it is free-Can’t seem to get beyond ad minefield? Unusable

### 1/5 — Virus

*2025-12-23, version 2026.1*

As soon as I started inputting my data a pop-up appeared saying I had a virus.

### 1/5 — Used to be good

*2020-07-29, version 2020.9*

This used to be a useful app. Not only do you have to pay for it, you have to pay extra if you want to put any data in it. I’m out

### 1/5 — Clunky UI, Riddled with Ads

*2020-06-03, version 2020.9*

Low end interface. And within minutes of use, the ads appeared and one was without the “x” to move past it, had to force quit and reopen.

Good idea for an app but the adds and low design make this one to avoid.

### 1/5 — Scam!! Beware!!!

*2018-11-29*

Bought a 1 year subscription to this app in July 2018 and with the recent update I lost all my saved tax plans + it no longer recognized my subscription. After back and forth communication with the developer they said they couldn’t help me, that it was Apple’s fault. I took it up with iTunes and they gave me a refund. I repurchased the 1 year subscription and it still says I don’t have an active subscription. Shame on me for giving them a second chance.

### 2/5 — File won’t save on iPhone

*2023-04-13, version 2023.6*

The file will not save on iPhone. You save the file and when you go to open next time files are not there

### 2/5 — Big error with AMT

*2022-01-11*

Don’t rely on this app if you have any significant amount of LTCG. I’ve been a big fan of this app, but currently there is a big error in how AMT is calculated. Basically it says I owe AMT on my LTCG. I’ve emailed support about the specific line in error. I even detailed when the IRS form changed, but I’ve received no reply. 🤷‍♂️

### 3/5 — Child tax credit NOT applied to Additional taxes from Schedule 2!!

*2026-05-28, version 2026.5*

The app adds additional taxes (1040 Line 17 from Schedule 2) AFTER non-refundable credits like the child tax credit (1040 Line 19) have been deducted, which can leave a portion of the non-refundable child tax credit unused, that could have offset the additional taxes from Schedule 2. Form 1040 deducts the child tax credit after all additional taxes from Schedule 2 such as repayment of excess APTC received in Line 17 have been added to the regular tax from Line 16. Instead, the app only uses a portion of the credit to offset regular tax and the rest of the credit is lost, and then adds the additional Schedule 2 tax to your total tax liability AFTER credits, which is incorrect.

### 3/5 — Error on Senior deduction starting 2025

*2026-01-21, version 2026.1*

I’m a big fan of this app and I’ve been supporting it for years. But there is an error calculating the $6K senior deduction. When I fist select Over 65, the deductions are correct. But each time I select a data entry screen and return to the Home Screen, the deduction is increased by another $6K, even though I did not change any data field.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Ez

*2025-11-22, version 2026.1*

I’m enjoying exploring the possibilities. Works well, makes sense..could use a little polish here and there.

### 5/5 — Excellent tax estimator

*2025-09-25, version 2025.5*

Simple to use, powerful. A really nice app!

### 5/5 — Missing new 65 and older standard deduction.

*2025-08-21, version 2025.2*

Looks quite promising but it hasn’t yet been updated for the new senior standard deduction of $17750 plus temporary (until 2028) additional $6000 deduction for a total of $23750. Reduces taxes considerably which I manually calculated. Once they update it, if I remember, I will change to 5 stars.

### 5/5 — Create app

*2025-03-15, version 2025.2*

Very quick data entry and reports. Reports can be emailed and printed out.

### 5/5 — Excellent Tax Forecast tool

*2024-12-22*

Requires only a few minutes to enter top level summary data to get a detailed tax forecast for a given year with all the supporting worksheet detail to understand it. Quickly identified a big problem in my detailed spreadsheet forecast that I was able to fix with a new subtable. Taxmode was available in November long before FreeTaxUSA and TurboTax in mid-January and take 1/10th the time for a decent result.

### 5/5 — Excellent Tax forecast tool

*2024-12-22, version 2025.2*

on iPad data entry takes only a few minutes to get a detailed tax forecast and worksheets for 2023, 2024 and 2025. Each year can be saved under a different name and emailed to your computer for review and printing. Good help files.
I needed to anticipate large tax bills in 2024 and 2025 after fund sales but Freetaxusa and Turbotax are not functional until mid-January. This tool was available in November and has replaced them.

### 5/5 — Great app with a caveat

*2023-10-21*

Tax Mode is an easy to use and understand app. Data entry is easy and the “Pro” version is worth upgrading to so that tax scenarios can be saved.

There is only one piece of functionality missing: the ability to estimate state income tax. To be fair, most apps such as Tax Mode don’t include state tax estimates but doing so would be a powerful differentiator when compared to other apps.

### 5/5 — Good and easy to use but could add some features

*2023-06-05, version 2023.7*

I have used this app for 2 years. It does miss some categories like Roth conversions and charitable donations. I just use one of the given categories to capture these items. Some user defined categories would also be helpful.

### 5/5 — CPA

*2022-04-01, version 2022.7*

All good!

### 5/5 — Eduardo R Chavez

*2022-02-23, version 2022.2*

Excelente
