## What is Infection Score?

The Deep Infection Risk Score for Open Tibia Fractures scoring app is based on a large study performed at the R. Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Center. This retrospective study reviewed 769 open tibia fractures treated over a 14 year period and found 4 factors that predicted deep infection following treatment. Entering fracture characteristics into the app will return a predictive score based on the model developed in this study. The results and model were originally presented at the 2023 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons and published in Injury (Wilkinson et. al., A deep surgical site infection risk score for patients with open tibial shaft fractures treated with intramedullary nail.
