It’s more engaging than many of the other tools I use to learn and practice Mandarin. However, I first downloaded the all on my phone and found it waaaay too small for a mobile screen. It works great on the iPad though. I was also able to break the tutorial twice, by clicking through things just a little too fast (I predicted what it was going to ask me to do and went ahead and click led buttons before tv instructions popped up, which froze it and I had to close and reopen the app). Without the tutorial it was a little more difficult to know what exactly I was expected to do, but the UI is pretty intuitive so it didn’t take long (like 5-10 minutes) to figure out all the controls, the vocab structures, how to toggle simplified/traditional characters, the star challenges, etc. Overall really really good! ### 2/5 — Have to pay :( *2025-06-04, version 3.1* You have to pay for most languages I don't likeeee I was so exited for this game ### 4/5 — Hope to see more different places *2025-03-26, version 3.1* This is a really good app to learn vocabulary from the virtual game. And there are many languages we can choose, but we spend 5 dollars on it and only can stay in one place. The game makes a transaction, tells me it’s complete and then nothing happens. The process of downloading a language never starts. Could you pls fix it? Also, I was unable to progress the tutorial beyond the task of finding an object with a synonym. I tried three times. ### 2/5 — No Latin ? *2024-09-08, version 2.5* I downloaded this as I saw it had Latin advertised on your website and I saw a video with a guy playing it with the Latin. This app version does not have Latin (incidentally I also saw that the steam DLC for this doesn’t have Latin anymore either). Is there an explanation or is it coming back ? I’ll revert my rating if there is a misunderstanding or bug. I’m interested in this game, it looks cool. ### 4/5 — Great for building vocab *2024-06-27, version 2.5* Review for the Japanese version: If you already know the Japanese alphabet, this is a fantastic app to use when trying to learn the basics of items you see and use everyday in your home. I removed a star because the latter challenge (reversal challenges) are trying to test the user on words that are not in their vocab list. It is quite confusing and results in a failing score, I’m not sure why it keeps trying to give me words I have yet to study but it ruins the last bit of the challenges. ### 3/5 — Pretty good *2024-04-20* App works great. But the sound will only work through headphones. But I couldn’t get used to the controls and being able to interact with all of the objects was a little overwhelming to me personally. But besides that, I think this is a good idea. ### 4/5 — Has Potential *2023-07-16, version 2.5* I am stuck in a state where I am supposed to pretend my character is doing some sort of Twitch-like streaming of going around the house and clicking on objects (I guess, that’s just what I’m getting from the bee character’s dialogue when I open the game). Once the 15 minute timer is up, nothing happens. No idea how to get to the minigames, and I teach UI at a university… Discord server invite link in the game is expired. So, I think this app has a lot of potential. I am just not sure how to get to it, and it would be great if additional environments were added. I’d be willing to pay .99 per environment per language, and there are a few languages getting studied in my home. ### 4/5 — Needs more places *2022-12-27, version 2.5* It only has a house it needs like a cafe and stuff ### 3/5 — Gameplay is a bit clunky and buggy *2022-10-05, version 2.5* It’s a good game in theory. The problem is the slow movements, the potential to click the wrong things, having to go through the whole list if there is one thing you haven’t mastered and the unclear explanations for the star challenges. It would’ve been a better idea to have a small portion of the room you had to master before moving on, in order to speed up gameplay. With regard to bugs, there are some words that don’t work. In my version, which is Portuguese, you press the freezer for the verb for cold during the star challenge and it doesn’t work, for example. This makes the game impossible to complete. Sorry I wasted the money. ### 1/5 — Great concept but the bugs have broken it *2022-03-15, version 2.2* Purchased this app for complimenting my Japanese and Spanish studies. The concept is sound and would be fantastic, unfortunately the bugs within it have broken the game shortly after it starts and there is no way to continue. Chip asks you to go into the vocabulary menu for the book to then add the adjective and verb to your vocabulary list using stars, the game allows you into the menu then freezes and will not allow you to select anything in the menu or back out of it. Only button that works is the ? Button in the top right which just repeats what chip has asked you to do (to go into the adjective part of the menu). You can’t proceed and you can’t back out of it meaning the game is stuck at that point. Tried closing the app and reopening it but as it all starts again, you get to that point and the same thing happens meaning there’s no way passed it. Tried this several times as well as resetting the device before retrying, but same issue persists. Please can this be fixed or can my money be refunded because I am unable to use the app in its current state? NB: in response to the developers comment: my device is an apple iPhone 11 (standard version) and my iOS version was 15.3.1 that was causing the issue. I’m learning Korean, and my biggest issue is immersion and putting vocab words to use. This helps so so so much. I really like the testing feature where you have to go find the items to master the word. I’ve been looking for an app that does exactly this. Immersion is super hard when you aren’t in an area where you have easy access to the language. This puts you in the position of forcing yourself to learn through looking at the objects. I think because it’s set in a house, and you’re surrounded by everyday objects, you have the ability to think about/redirect your attention to what’s physically around you IRL and use the new vocab. I literally just started but, I really reccomend this to any beginners to the language— I’m super excited to see more progression in the game.
