### 2/5 — Just use VLC - Subscription Required

*2026-08-22, version 8.5.1*

Advertised as free but subscription needed to do anything. Don’t be fooled. Just use VLC.

### 3/5 — When it works it’s great

*2026-08-22, version 8.5.1*

Problem is it is fraught with network issues and server problems and always no matter the problem you get the exact same error and you go from playing fine to never playing again until you have to dele 3gb of cache and delete and reset everything to get it to ever play anything again. It’s a frustrating app and half the time I just end up using VLC just to get stuff off my server to play

### 4/5 — Excellent with one flaw

*2026-08-18, version 8.5.1*

I love everything about Infuse, the experience on Apple TV shows this is a 100% native app instead of the websites disguised as apps most companies ship today.

The only flaw it has is subtitles, if OpenSubtitles has few options for your language, and every one is not synced to your file, it’s very uncomfortable because you have to correct it with offsets, which takes too much time if the offset is big. Would love it if you implemented a way to pick the current dialogue to sync it without knowing the offset, that’s more convenient and would solve my only gripe with Infuse.

### 4/5 — Maravilhoso! Pena que não permite reproduzir pastas…

*2026-08-13*

Gostaria de poder adicionar pastas de vídeos ao aplicativo. Fora isso, ele é perfeito. Incrível a compatibilidade com o leitor de telas VoiceOver

**Developer response:** Obrigado! É ótimo saber disso. 😊

### 2/5 — Barely usable after ios26 update

*2026-08-09, version 8.5*

After ios26 it is almost unusable with my network drive, used to be perfect and now takes 2 minutes to open a folder or it says error. Absolutely awful what used to be a fantastic solution.

### 2/5 — tvOS SMB/NTLM Woes

*2026-08-09, version 8.5*

This would be an excellent product — except it doesn’t work on the Big Screen!

iPhone, macOS all use the modern IAKERB authentication, but on tvOS, it tries NTLMv2 and fails, and this on v8.5, released end of July 2026.

Should be five stars, but not being able to use it on the TV is pretty much a dealbreaker.

### 2/5 — Love the app - but family sharing is not working for Lifetime

*2026-08-05, version 8.5*

Great way of connecting to Jellyfin, easy user interface for the whole family to use. Having a single app on phones and AppleTV is great for family-apportion. However Family Sharing is NOT working with my lifetime purchase - which kinda makes the whole experiment pointless.

### 4/5 — It does what it promises but nothing more

*2026-08-02, version 8.5*

Works fine most of the time, synchronisation and indexing is rather slow compared to similar apps, ans trakt integration doesn’t always work. But the important bits (video playing) are reliable and as described.

### 2/5 — Gets stuck in a loop

*2026-08-02, version 8.5*

Fetches content for each library in a loop, butthe dashboard never updates and it just keeps re-syncing the same libraries over and over indefinitely. I got Pro hoping that would fix it, it did not. Looks like it could potentially be good.

### 5/5 — Beast

*2026-08-02, version 8.5*

The best

### 4/5 — Why I like Infuse

*2026-08-02, version 8.5*

I love infuse but what I don’t like is how after a long time you have to re-download the movie you’re trying to watch. But overall I really like infuse

### 3/5 — extremely glitchy playback on streaming

*2026-08-01, version 8.5*

pausing instantly starts again and requires five pauses to actually pause. the ui is kind of ugly and just feels like a catalyst app. it’s annoying af but does have the best image quality.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Disappointment Day

*2026-08-21, version 8.5.1*

What a let down. This sucked so much. Spielberg can do so much better and has with alien movies. Found myself skipping so much so often. Was bored. It dragged on and one. No character development where I cared any about Emily blunt telling people their lives or anyone else about anything. The end is so bad. Non one cares. All build up and nothing is even said. Left for interpretation. So dumb.

### 1/5 — Paywalls basic features

*2026-08-17*

If I wanted an app to play video files locally, I would use VLC player, the only reason to use this app is to chrome cast, or to airplay, neither of which you can do without paying a subscription fee.

**Developer response:** Many videos types can be played in the free version, but due to licensing requirements some video types will require Pro.

### 1/5 — Would be great if it worked

*2026-08-16, version 8.5.1*

AirPlay has been totally broken for ages now.

AirPlay shows the poster on the device that you AirPlay to but not the video - the video shows only on the original device.

This has been an issue for a while now so I am sure the developers know about this.

If I had not paid for pro, it would not be as big of an issue, but I do which means it is a waste of money.

### 1/5 — Don't Purchase!!

*2026-08-16, version 8.5.1*

Update August 2026: Still cannot recommend this app. Issues are still present. STAY AWAY!

App is unable to play files through Airplay saved directly in the app. You have to save them elsewhere and then play them on the app. So you are unable to build a library in Infuse Pro. I have tried contacting customer support, but this issue still has not been resolved and it has been over a year. Also basic functionality like gesture based PIP (picture-in-picture) are not enabled, so you don't get a floating window when you swipe up like almost every other media app. Look elsewhere!

### 1/5 — Useless

*2026-08-16, version 8.5.1*

Not syncing files / playlists between iphone and apple tv. No point in lying for pro then.

### 1/5 — Company scams you into buying same software over and over

*2026-08-08, version 8.5*

I already bought Infuse Pro a few years ago… it was $25. Not a cheap app. I found out today it hasn’t updated in forever and now missing some key features. Guess what? They don’t allow me to download the latest version anymore. They want $99 more dollars to download the latest version. WHAT?!?!?! So now they want a total of $125 for a video player. What. A. Joke. What. A. Scam. They are extorting their customer for more money when we already bought the app. Buyer beware. You might pay $99 today, but tomorrow they’ll probably charge you $200. What a scam company. This should be illegal.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work

*2026-08-04, version 8.5*

Repeatedly tell it to synch with my iCloud and it does not. Nor does it see my apple library. VLC is a much better product. Thank goodness I didn’t purchase it! Not worth it.

### 1/5 — Clunky

*2026-08-03, version 8.5*

This could be so much nut it’s clunky and the meta date sucks! If AppleTV worked correctly I would never use Infuse again.

### 1/5 — Poche

*2026-07-31*

### 1/5 — Forced to use AI features?

*2026-07-27*

The video-playing is pretty okay on this app. For some reason, it has AI upscaling automatically enabled, but you can turn it off easily. However, something you can’t turn off is the automatically assigned descriptions and thumbnails. For some reason, the developers of this app have seemingly forced AI-generated descriptions and thumbnails for any local file video. For example, I have a video named Razor downloaded, but instead of taking a screenshot from the actual file, it seemingly AI-generated an image for the thumbnail??? I also have a series of videos called untitled1, untitled2, and untitled3, and Infuse renamed them to Untitled#1, Untitled Michael Sequel, and Untitled Beetlejuice 3. Huh???? These are completely unrelated elements to the original video, and I believe the descriptions are AI generated too. I tried messing around with metadata settings in the map to no avail — Beetlejuice and Michael are still here. It is possible to reset the metadata for each individual video, but I’m not doing all that. It’s also VERY laggy to scroll through videos.

**Developer response:** Metadata fetching can be disabled in Infuse > Settings > Metadata & Artwork. If you are seeing any other issues please drop us a note and we can assist further.

### 5/5 — Works very well

### 5/5 — World Class Media App

*2026-08-04, version 8.5*

Infuse has been my favorite streaming app for years now and they just fixed the one thing which had given me a bit of consternation (a SMB share being faster at home via direct IP vs reachable away from home via Tailscale) by letting you specify multiple endpoints for the same share. This has saved me a ton of work and I decided it’s time to pull the trigger for lifetime license after that. Thanks Infuse team!

### 5/5 — Got used to it; it’s great.

*2026-08-03, version 8.5*

Took me a while to get the design intent behind some of the functions, but now that I understand, it’s GREAT. It is very flexible, which is what makes it confusing to me at first: Frankly I disagree with almost EVERY default, but you might love it untouched or make a few tweaks. That superpower is the Kryptonite here. So get a short duration license and give yourself a few days to figure it out and see who YOU want it to be. Then you’ll understand the value here. It’s really great.
