Two drawbacks 1) service is slow to present breaking new news, other news feeds have new news many hours (like 18 hours) before it shows up on inkl 2) the price is steep for news that is no longer “new”. ### 2/5 — Good idea poor execution *2026-03-27, version 6.42* Great idea but in the end App UI and core features awful to use - thumbs down article and similar keep showing up - Small buttons make it impossible to thumb down an article in a single shot of it worked - This is 2026 if you can't figure out an easy way to use and customize the UI you're cooked. ### 2/5 — Great concept, execution needs work *2026-01-15, version 6.42* I really wanted to love this app. Too bad I’m not American (or British). How is it that the only trusted news sources seem to be in those two places? I have tried tuning my preferences to show more content from anywhere else in the world but I still see almost nothing but American news. I asked to see news about the Toronto Blue Jays. Apparently nothing unbiased was written about them since the World Series and none of the recent sources are Canadian. ### 4/5 — World *2026-01-05, version 6.42* It is a reliable source of very informative and comprehensive latest news of the world. ### 3/5 — No distractions, but limited sources and no support *2025-03-15, version 6.42* The great: I read more news with inkl because I’m not carpet bombed by ads. The not-great Sources are very limited. 50% of the top 10 articles I see for many of the topics I follow come from a single publication. The even less great: I contacted support 3 times over the last month of paid use and haven’t received an acknowledgement or reply. I don’t know if anyone is on the other end of this company. ### 2/5 — Mostly amazing *2025-02-09, version 6.42* Argh. I’m sorry I have to update my review after using this app for several months. It’s a great concept, but the execution is unfortunately very poor. If there is curation, I don’t discern it. It just feels like any other news feed, only with lower quality sources, and stale topics. There are a few great sources, but the large majority I’ve never heard of. One I see often I went to the website and it’s just a news feed with no other information - sketchy. Also, some “news” clearly is paid advertising, like for VPNs. ### 4/5 — Mostly amazing *2025-01-04* Not dealing with ads and knowing my payment supports excellent journalism from a variety of trusted sources alone makes this app well worth it! I hope there are more major media outlets that participate - it’s impossible to subscribe individually to all the sources I’d like to read. I’ve noticed Inkl is not great for breaking news. Sometimes the Our Picks and Good News sections are a little random, like stuff about raising indoor plants and why wire hangers are ruining your clothes. I do want these curated sections, but I’d prefer news of consequence - move Fluff to another section. I’d also like more long form deep dive journalism, maybe a curated section for it? And the difference between the Comment and Analysis sections is not clear to me. I’d like to read powerful opinions from a variety of points of view that both resonate with me and challenge me. Finally, the Technology section is a little weak, unless you enjoy reading all about EVs. It would also be cool to have a “follow this story” option where if I selected this on a certain story I’d get more news on it as it emerges. ### 4/5 — Heavy UK focus *2025-01-01, version 6.42* 5 stars for the design of this app. 5 stars for the thought process and journalistic integrity. Beautiful interface and no annoying ads. However, it’s heavily UK focused, especially with sport. Every other story was on formula one racing which I have no interest and even though I kept hitting the thumbs down to see less content it still heavily focused on UK and needs more US focus in news and sport. I’ll come back later for a second look down the road but for now didn’t serve my purpose. ### 3/5 — Needs more work *2024-09-27, version 6.42* I want to say I love this app, but it just refuses to personalize to my news interests! I can’t block certain topics I don’t care about, like sports and media. Thumbs up and down doesn’t appear to do anything (and is poorly implemented because the button ‘safe area’ is so tiny). ### 3/5 — Excellent app and great layout but *2024-06-30, version 6.42* Some of the news sources isn’t working since December 2023, I tried emailing them about it several times, they never replied. The “Our Picks” section rather unfortunately and very clearly shows the editors agenda though, predictable agenda pushing whilst avoiding real, hard issues. ### 2/5 — Meh whatever *2024-05-31, version 6.42* Nothing unique about this app. Rather useless, at least half the curated articles are from news sources behind paywalls. So.. you can’t read any of those articles. No updates in 2 years *2026-07-01, version 6.42* The title says it all and for the last week just won’t load. When it worked originally, for years there were regular updates and good news source without having to pay each one a subscription. But lately in last year or so it only provided free news sources and limited mainly to the UK and sports. Waste of money and ultimately it doesn’t load for me and support? If you read this- I have unsubscribed until you fix these issues. No updates for 2 years, seriously? Cash grab or what? ### 1/5 — No longer worth the subscription *2026-05-11, version 6.42* This app was great at first, with well-curated multi-source news stories. But ‘hard’ news is now few and far between, and are only refreshed every few days. If you filter out all the celeb trash and life-hacks you’re left with 3-day old news stories. ### 1/5 — Abandonware *2026-02-05* Not updated in a year and app is light years behind in both UX andand UI for iOS 26. You can buy subscription in app, but you can’t cancel. It’s a scam. ### 1/5 — Not without Paywalls *2025-06-14, version 6.42* Used for a couple of weeks before I eventually came across a dreaded Paywall. Worst of it was it was Inkl’s own pay wall with two substitution options and no way to skip it. The article I wanted was inaccessible. Gone back to Google News ### 1/5 — AWFUL *2025-02-16, version 6.42* This app installed but didn’t even open after I submitted my valid Apple ID. ### 1/5 — Lots of issues almost nonexistent support *2024-12-19* The app is waste of money, hardly any national news, language segregation issue, national international segregation issue, frequency of update is slow. Support is almost non existent and blank promises. ### 1/5 — Articles not accessible due to paywalls - requests to cancel ignored *2024-07-28, version 6.42* The advertised outlets on inkl still have paywalls for articles and are not accessible. Despite repeated attempts, they have ignored my requests to cancel and refund suscription. ### 1/5 — Strange. *2024-07-10, version 6.42* Claims to be unbias but seems to draw a huge amount of stories from the “national” newspaper a propaganda leaflet on behalf of the Scottish government. I’d suggest this really isn’t a “trusted news source” one should be including in an app like this. I can’t see anywhere to turn it off either.
