### 2/5 — NOT FREE

*2026-04-30*

apps that charge for subscription should not be categorized as free

i tested one photo of a bee, which was an easy identification. the app got it right. i wanted to identify an unknown insect. the app said it wasn’t sure. i chose to continue with its best guess — immediately asked for money.

### 2/5 — Why do you have to buy to identify insects?

*2024-10-06, version 1.3.10*

But I like it

### 1/5 — Not Accurate and favours US species.

*2024-06-29*

This is quite expensive for similar apps. Like all the apps I’ve seen, it favours US or possibly N American species, not so useful if your in The UK or anywhere else in the world. It also seems less accurate than other apps.
I took the three day subscription, but have now cancelled it.

### 1/5 — depressing

*2024-06-26, version 1.3.8*

bro I have a pet ladybug and when I scanned it it was identified as a potter wasp and when I tried scanning it again it asked for a subscription so I deleted the “potter wasp” and scanned it again but it still wants a subscription so it basically wants me to spend money a month just to frickin identify a goddamn ladybug

### 1/5 — Useless

*2024-06-18*

Tried to identify an insect. App called it wasp which it clearly wasn’t. When I tried to retake photo it wanted me to pay for app. Useless and NOT free.

### 1/5 — Payant

*2023-11-05*

Impossible d’essayer avant d’acheter

### 1/5 — Leider kein brauchbares Ergebnis.

*2023-10-30*

Eine Spinne wurde für einen Schmetterling gehalten. Habe abonniert um die 3 Tage kostenfreie Vollversion zu nutzen. Nach 3 verschiedenen Versuchen mein Urteil: Sinnlos

### 1/5 — Bad and “free”

*2023-09-01, version 1.3.4*

First misidentified the bug, then required payment for more attempts. “Free”…. You tricked me

### 1/5 — Nope

*2023-08-24, version 1.3.4*

I tried to see what type of grasshopper I found was. I entered the picture and it told me it was a Honey Bee. I then deleted the app.

### 3/5 — Labeled most things as a wasp

*2023-08-15*

This app is a great idea but it would need some serious work, I started by scanning a photo of a mound ant (Formica exsectoides) and it thought it was a type of wasp, I get that that could happen as they are somewhat related, however after more trials with different insects it never got anything right, and most of the time it just labeled things as a type of wasp, it even thought an American cockroach was a ground wasp. Overall I think this is a great idea for an app but until it’s more reliable as a tool to identify things then I would not recommend it.

### 2/5 — terrible

*2023-07-28, version 1.3.4*

have it a picture of a spider, returned with a result of a six-legged bug. the ai is incredibly poor in this app

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2023-07-20*

On a blurry picture, it called my red stag beetle a monarch butterfly. I got it on a better picture and then it called it a Carolina grasshopper. We live in Alabama. this so-called app charges you real money for an app that doesn’t even work. I agree with some of the first ratings of it, calling a spider, a wasp and other insects completely different things. I completely understand if you mixed up species, but not entirely different animals.

### 1/5 — Schlechte Ergebnisse und blöde abofalle

*2023-07-08*

Schlechte Ergebnisse und blöde abofalle

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2023-07-07*

Don’t waste your time. This doesn’t work. Had a close up of a small beetle, said it was a bee. Took a photo of my coffee table, said it was a lady bug, then another time, a bee.

### 1/5 — Faux gratuit

*2025-10-19*

Annoncée comme totalement comme sur iphoneaddict cela l’est effectivement … que 3 jours. On nous prends pour des imbeciles.

### 1/5 — Don’t bother

*2025-06-25*

Not impressed, so where is the icon/tab or what ever Settings, can’t find it anywhere 🤨

### 1/5 — Not working

*2025-06-25*

I’m trying to install the app and use the AppAdvice lifetime offer. The app is freezing at the initial onboarding where it forces you to take a pic (of an insect) to proceed.

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2025-03-14*

This app simply does not work. It is unable to work with the IPhone 16 pro cameras for close up shots. It also gives multiple wrong “guesses” for the same bug. Garbage.

**Developer response:** Hello, if possible can you share more details to our email rockybrainllc@gmail.com so we can improve our app? Thank you!

### 1/5 — Poor app

*2025-01-23, version 1.3.11*

This app does not identify small bugs dont waste your time

### 1/5 — FYI: This app DOESN’T identify spiders (and also doesn’t work on insects)

*2024-10-02*

I agree with most others who say it doesn’t work in insects. I tried several different insects and it didn’t make one correct identification, even after 3 attempts.

And as an aside, I know spiders are arachnids, but as an app user/app purchaser, if you’re trying to quickly figure out what kind of little “bug-like” creature you have in front of you, especially when you don’t know if it’s dangerous or not, various spiders should be included. This last piece is completely my personal opinion, and any developer can choose to make their app how they want it but I wished I would’ve made the distinction before I downloaded this app.

Dang it, now I lost the spider I was trying to identify (before I started writing this review) and don’t know where he went!!

**Developer response:** Hello, the app can now identify spiders! Please update and try again.

### 1/5 — Very bad

*2024-08-07, version 1.3.10*

Had wasp kept stinging me when I did it kept saying mentis wouldn't recommend

### 1/5 — Couldn’t identify a bedbug

*2024-08-06, version 1.3.10*

Very disappointing that this app couldn’t accurately identify a bedbug.
Cancelled subscription to this app.

### 1/5 — Complaint

*2024-07-20, version 1.3.8*

This app did not disclose fees.

### 1/5 — Not free at all.

*2024-07-12*

After a first and last unique picture, you can’t go further, they will ask you to pay 4$ every week. Removed.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Certainly Not Reliable!!

*2024-10-09*

Not even close, after multiple tries it identified nothing! Just for fun it identified a photo of my grand son as a Picasso Bug!!!
Cancelling my subscription after 5 minutes into my 3 day trial!!!!

**Developer response:** Hello, if possible can you share the photo of the species you tried to identify with us to our email rockybrainllc@gmail.com so we can improve our app? Thank you!

### 5/5 — Bug identifier

*2024-09-23*

Super great app! Not needed very much so subscriptions are not something I would purchase but on the rare occasion that bug identifying is needed this is a great resource.
Thank you for not charging for this helpful service .
Senior on fixed low income and this free app is wonderful!!

### 5/5 — (5 star so this is top)

*2024-07-24*

It thought my dead Red Imported Fire Ant Queen was a butterfly/wasp

### 5/5 — Spot on!

*2024-05-21*

This took 1/2 a second to get the info I was looking for about this HUUUUGE BEE inside my house and it’s time for bed. I’m not having that thing sting me while I’m asleep! Thank you for being so quick with your scanner!

### 5/5 — Bislang gute Ergebnisse

*2024-05-01*

Alles bestens, sehr gute Ergebnisse

### 5/5 — Insect Identifier

*2023-08-03*

Uploaded a pic of a caterpillar and instantly got an answer. WOW. So far I really like this app.

### 5/5 — Thank you!

*2023-06-15*

I’ve spent 5 minutes looking for an insect finder that didn’t cost money and I came across this which gave the answers I needed!

### 5/5 — Sehr schnelle Ergebnisse

*2023-05-26*

Leicht zu bedienen m. Halt nur englisch. Aber über lat. Bezeichnung kommt man auch auf deutschen Namen

### 5/5 — Useful

*2022-08-19*

Got to know and distinguish dozen of types of worms in my garden

### 5/5 — Spider labeled anything but a spider

*2022-05-16*

Even labeled a spider as a wasp when it’s obviously a spider
Thank you for the update and would be nice if you included them in with your bug and insect identification. Thank you for your updated response and I am updating this review to reflect the overall performance on other bug identification

**Developer response:** We are sorry for the inconvenience! Spiders are not insects and so the app could not identify spiders at this time. We will definitely improve the database to include more species in the future!
