I’m wondering about 3 items but only remember 2 atm. Number 2 will appear when I remember. ………………….…………………………………. ……………….……… 1. Privacy. It’s not Tor. I’m still trackable but somehow not so easily? For example, when I use other “private” browsers, read my last article behind a paywall, copy the URL of another, close the browser, re-open, paste the URL, I can’t read another article. Somehow there’s sufficient data left to show I read my last article. Same with buying tickets- there’s data showing I shopped for flights and I won’t get a better price. Thank you. ### 4/5 — ❤️ Insight Browser *2022-09-17, version 2.2.019* 2022 update: Note: Please fix the super-annoying "Reload/Apple Pay" message; it pops up constantly when online shopping and drives me nuts! Then, 5 stars. Best browser for shopping and searching; adblocker works great, too. Extensions are handy for those who know how to use them. Prior review: The more I use it, the more I LOVE this one! It blocks ads, it’s fast, and allows me to find what I’m looking for (using Google search). Way more accurate search results than with default Safari. Want a PDF? Find it here. Still learning about “extensions” and how to use them. The idea of custom extension in form of a javascript url is simple, effective and elegant. My phone is pretty powerful and it’s nice to have the option of extensions; however, I’m surprised how seldom I actively engage with extensions ### 4/5 — Excellent - with 3 caveats (devs please read) *2021-06-16, version 2.2.016* This is actually the best browser on the app store, and I have tried them all. I mainly use it for its excellent dark mode extension and firefox-like UI. The devs have done an outstanding job on basically everything. There could be more extensions but I understand the devs probably only want to support the best performing ones. This would absolutely be a 5 star app except for the following issues: 1. Un-secure websites cannot be bypassed - the link to “continue anyway” does not work. Eg, a bad SSL cert can make a website that you know impossible to access because there is NO way to bypass it. I think this is a bug rather than a design feature. 2. Youtube links opened in new tabs will occasionally just be a blank page 3. Extensions should be easier to turn on/off per page without having to leave the page itself. Hopefully the devs can fix these three issues and I’d be glad to give it 5 stars. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — DO NOT INSTALL THIS *2024-08-24* THIS BROWSER IS NO LONGER BEING UPDATED. THE OWNERS DO NOT EVEN HAVE THEIR OWN DOMAIN/WEBSITE OPERATIONAL ANY LONGER. This browser was great a year ago, one of the best new app only browser mods. It has not been updated for over a year however. The extensions that rely somewhat on their homepage have issues now. Seeing as it is quite difficult to reacquire a lost domain it could be dangerous to trust any new owner of the domain to be the same operators as the previous. Best to move onto a newer app with continuous operation. ### 1/5 — ⚠️Warning: Developer/Company Seems To Be Defunct *2024-03-15* While other users have noted that there has not been any updates to the app for a while and that the app’s privacy policy leads to an inexistent/unreachable website, I found some additional evidence that the developer is MIA (I hope they are okay). The developer’s website and privacy policy page currently have an invalid security certificate that expired back in February 12, 2024. It was last renewed on November 14, 2023 using a Let’s Encrypt 90-day certificate, which are usually renewed automatically. This is a pretty good indicator that the website has been completely abandoned. The same thing goes for the developer’s other app’s website for Hyper Web. Its website certificate was last issued on November 23, 2023 and expired on February 02, 2024. I would say be careful of continuing to use the app. Hopefully the dev didn’t have something terrible happen to them. ### 1/5 — Doesn't actually block all ads *2021-09-26* Despite the app advertising that it "blocks all ads" and even "blocks the unlockable ads", and with strict ad blocking turned on in the app's settings, many ads still come through, and YouTube/Twitch pre-roll ads still play. Be wary of something that "blocks all ads" and doesn't actually do that. Bad advertising and bad coding at best, purposely misleading at worst. ### 1/5 — Crashes crashes crashes *2021-05-21, version 2.2.015* The browser crashes ever time I’m sharing my closet on Poshmark and it’s super frustrating ### 1/5 — Not production ready... *2021-04-28, version 2.2.013* App takes seemingly forever to load (iPhone 12). Every few times, it crashes out right on start before it is even usable. If you can get this to load you will love it too. HATE that I will have to go back to Safari. But I need a browser to open and be usable when I open it. No support for Apple Pay. ### 2/5 — Fast and efficient, but not completely on top. *2022-10-28, version 2.2.020* To begin with, extensions are limited and don’t always work. There’s also no settings to customize your browser with. It’ll just lead you to the settings app, where you can do basically nothing on. Other than that, it’s actually quite fast. It loaded my sites twice as fast as Firefox did, and thrice as fast as Safari. ### 2/5 — Came for the dark mode, stayed for the extensions *2021-10-03, version 2.2.017* Update 10/02/2020: I hate the new icon. The old one was good for three reasons: it was a callout to the backslash in URLs at the same time as being the “I” in Insight; it was bold and dramatic; and it had character. The new one is very corporate (which doesn’t jibe with the Insight aesthetic imho) and looks like a sketch of a lighter made in the style of Apple’s latest wallpaper design. Thus, it’s unoriginal and already dated. I implore you to go back to the old one. Changed five-star review to two until demands are met. I pretty much never write reviews, but this browser is fantastic. I’d been using Brave for about a year, and although it’s great for privacy, and okay for getting around paywalls, they are moving more and more toward a monetized system front and center. I have to click into the settings every time I want to get around a paywall. But I digress—this review is about Insight, and Insight is dope. Dark mode works better than any other dark mode I have ever used—including on desktop. I am very picky about dark mode. If a macOS version of Insight ever drops, I will be the first to download. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Insight Browser iOS app *2024-06-14* Insight Browser iOS app version ### 5/5 — Needs an extension function to exclude domains from search results *2024-04-04* Often I find certain sources always popping up in search results, and I really don’t want them, because those sites force “upsell” to app lockdowns on their content. I would rather exclude these from mobile searches. In the create extensions function, we can whitelist domains, but there’s no function to blacklist domains. I was able to implement a sort of blacklist for certain hard-coded domains with regex, but that’s a bit convoluted, hard to manage or modify. Actual domain exclusions (with a list, or at least a dedicated function) would be much more useful for extensions than hard-coding specific offenders with custom regex for each search engine. ### 5/5 — Could become the complete best browser for ios! *2024-02-09* I think this is very much the best browser i have (compared to safari, chrome, and for the extensions, even firefox), and the team making it has done some good work. Although i have some problems, mainly that the help page (I’m pretty sure) goes to a 404 error. The pop-up ads extension is very helpful, but the main thing I think that would make is easily the best browser is intergrating something like Ublock Origin as an extension, or just have it be intergrated into the browser from the beginning. People would flock to your app! tl;dr, already the best browser i’ve used, but it could be made even better with a full adblocker. ### 5/5 — ❤️ Insight Browser *2023-04-13* Insight browser is great! It’s my go-to browser for shopping. It’s fast and efficiently blocks those annoying ads. Extensions may come in handy too. Highly recommended.
