### 1/5 — Fake ebook

*2022-07-13*

Downloaded it but all it says is the ebook cannot be downloaded at the moment. Then I have to carry the hard copy??

### 1/5 — Waste of time

*2022-07-12, version 1.2.26*

Downloaded to support Mauritius guidebook. Pointless. Not huge amount of content & barely any of the web links even worked & those that did often went to unrelated advertising links so couldn’t get any useful info from it.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t read the QR code

*2022-05-16, version 1.2.26*

Unable to use the free app because it doesn’t read the QR code

### 1/5 — Freezes

*2022-04-26, version 1.2.26*

I downloaded the app after purchasing an Insight Guides pocket guide. After I scanned the QR code inside the book, the app froze in the Verification process. The app shows a “Please wait…” message and prevents me from navigating to the next page to answer the first question.

### 1/5 — Completely broken, company does not respond to support requests

*2022-04-10*

I’ve purchased a number of Insight Guides over the years that came with a free e-book version. At one point in the past it worked fine. However, for the past year (or two, with the pandemic I’ve lost track) I have been completely unable to log into the app to access them. I had originally set my account up using the Facebook login option, but now when I try to use it I get an error message telling me that it’s in “development mode” and I don’t have access. I’ve tried using the Google login and email login methods with no success either. So then I tried the support link in the app. Wrote out a whole message detailing the issues I’ve been having and what I had tried so far to fix them. And then it failed to send. I finally ended up just tweeting at the company, because that usually works if nothing else does to at least start a dialog (companies don’t like being called out publicly, funny that). No response there either. I’ve pretty much given up at this point, but shame on Insight Guides for not delivering what they’ve promised, and for failing to support their own customers. It’s enough that I’ve started leaning toward other options when I buy travel guides. Very disappointing.

### 1/5 — Really user UNfriendly

*2022-03-27, version 1.2.26*

Probably okay but I usually give up trying to use it. I have to log in every time, no option to use Face ID and a non-memorable app-generated password which I can’t change. 😖

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2022-03-26, version 1.2.26*

The app is clunky to install. Google authentication didn’t work (Google warning message about incorrect security protocol). Then the book I downloaded won’t open I only get a prompt to copy or save the file. Useless really.

### 1/5 — Why pay twice?

*2022-03-16, version 1.2.26*

I downloaded this app because it has a page devoted to it in a berlitz travel book, but the book has no qr code so id have to pay twice for the same content. What's the point? Also, the activities search doesn't work.

### 1/5 — No thanks

*2022-02-13, version 1.2.26*

No problem loading onto my old iPhone. Couldn’t find Madeira for some reason so searched my local area App was showing me events and activities over 200 miles away! Money was also in dollars - there is life outside America. Deleted it and got a book. Much more reliable.

### 1/5 — Useless app

*2022-01-19, version 1.2.26*

This app is a waste of time. I downloaded it to use with an Insight Guide I had purchases. On both my iPhone and iPad after scanning the QR code provided I am informed that it is invalid! The app is in need serious updating to be of use with the latest iOS. I would give it 0 stars if that were possible.

### 1/5 — Trash App

*2020-11-29, version 1.2.26*

Cannot scan the QR code on my book so I cannot utilize the electronic version. Disappointing to say the least.

### 1/5 — Out of date

*2020-01-30, version 1.2.26*

The app has obviously not been updated in a while and as a result you can no longer log in using Facebook or google. I would strongly recommend only using this app if you are redeeming a free guide with a purchase of a physical book, as I have now lost access to previous purchases.

### 1/5 — Ripped off

*2020-01-19, version 1.2.26*

I bought the Australian Insight Guide specifically so that I could use the Walking Eye app at no additional cost. However, after downloading/scanning the code, the content disappeared after 10 days. When I tried to login, my credentials no longer worked, nor did the “forgot password” link. I couldn’t scan the code again without logging in, and without credentials couldn’t log in. I’ll be purchasing a different ebook, and will avoid all future purchases of Insight Guides.

### 1/5 — Walking eye doesn’t work!

*2020-01-12, version 1.2.26*

The scan function on the QR code that supposedly allows access to the app does not work! The site might be good .... who knows?

### 2/5 — Needs updating

*2020-01-07, version 1.2.26*

No problems downloading or opening in ebooks BUT I bought the latest print edition and this isn’t it. Feeling rather cheated. How out of date will it turn out to be in use is anybody’s guess.

### 2/5 — Google authentication error

*2019-12-30*

Can no longer authenticate within the app with Google so am unable to view any content I already have or purchase any other content.

### 1/5 — Worthless and empty

*2019-12-16*

If you are in a major city and want to know where you can buy a purse, maybe you will like this app. If you are interested in the Castles, museums or monuments of any type, there are none in this app. Maybe in some countries, but nothing in Portugal. We will buy other books on the future if they think this has any use for travel. Completely worthless.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2019-10-14, version 1.2.26*

The app is crap, nothing works, I thought it was brilliant to have a "guide app" on the phone while traveling, that’s mainly why I bought the book. Big Lies, Huge Regrets.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Guide is a Waste of Money

*2024-01-07, version 1.2.26*

I downloaded the ebook after buying the Glasgow Guide book at Waterstones. I was suckered by the promise of more info on the app. The ebook I downloaded wouldn’t open on my iPhone 12. After downloading the ebook to my phone it disappeared from the app so I had no access to it at all. The guide book is poor. No general info on public transport systems in Glasgow, for instance. Wish I hadn’t bought it. Total waste of money.

### 1/5 — No Free eBook or App as advertised on purchase of paper book

*2023-10-04, version 1.2.26*

As per review by another person there was no eNook or app available as promised on the real book cover.
Please fix this problem or refund me my book price £16.99

### 1/5 — App useless as won’t read QR code

*2023-09-03, version 1.2.26*

Title says it all really

### 1/5 — Really have to pay

*2023-07-06, version 1.2.26*

Why do u have to pay because that’s expensive mostly if u travel every year or month ur plane ticket is expensive now 9 to 17 dollars about some half useless book

### 1/5 — App cannot load QR code

*2023-07-01, version 1.2.26*

Try to use the QR code listed in the front of the newly purchased inside guide to Japan, but this feels to work. When replying to the support team, the prompts refer to which iPhone model I have “e.g. 6”, showing how out of date this software is given we are now at model 14. A prompt to upload any fault on the page with a photograph (screenshot), crashes me out of the support page. Given the comments from other users, it doesn’t look like there has been any attempt to try and improve this app in many years.

### 1/5 — E-book download

*2023-03-01, version 1.2.26*

Bought the book, tried to download the ebook for when we’re out and about, no chance. Doesn’t work, waste of time and money. Wish we’d just bought a decent ebook instead as taking a book out with us is not really practical. No idea about content as I assume it’s as out of date as the app!

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2022-12-05, version 1.2.26*

The map feature for Scotland did not work. Very limited tourist and restaurant recommendations. Save your money.

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2022-11-23, version 1.2.26*

Doesn’t work

### 1/5 — Dont get!

*2022-09-02, version 1.2.26*

Honestly dont waste your time. I thought it would be an ebook of the physical book which would be very useful. Its completely useless adverts. Insight guides
should know better and redo it completely asap.

### 1/5 — QR code in book invalid

*2022-07-31, version 1.2.26*

Bought the book but cannot access it on the app as the “qr code is invalid”

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Rip off

*2022-03-16*

No matter how you try to utilize the “free ebook” that is included with the purchase of the book, it won’t work. It will send you around in circles until it drives you crazy. Waste of time and money as I purchased the book specifically for the ebook feature.

### 5/5 — Better than expected...

*2020-02-14*

Like others, I felt discouraged after reading reviews, but once I managed to download the ebook and then the actual publication via the iBooks app, things worked very nicely. I’ll always prefer the paper version of a guidebook, one I can dog ear, but the ebook is a welcomed supplement.

### 5/5 — Exactly what they say it offers

*2019-09-23, version 1.2.26*

Maybe it’s been improved. My New Zealand guidebook (bought as a book) is completely accessible on my phone and includes the maps, which can be clicked on and zoomed. Just want for having while out and about; this way I don’t have to have the book with me. As for booking extras via the app I have no interest in this and so far no ads or promos. Ok so far. Quite nice in fact.

### 5/5 — Nice and handy app

*2019-07-08, version 1.2.26*

The app works smoothly on my iPhone X, and it’s very intuitive. The content is useful and well organised, I’m probably going to use more the app than the book itself.

### 5/5 — What’s all the fuss about?

*2019-06-28, version 1.2.26*

I’m struggling to see why people are having issues with the app, downloading ebooks or using the Insight options. All were pretty straightforward for me, and I even shared the ebooks to my laptop via Airdrop in seconds. This is a great service with plenty more options if you want to take advantage.

### 5/5 — I would suggest you follow instructions

*2019-06-09, version 1.2.26*

It works great. @chris shouldn’t be so quick to dis this app. It’s insightful, realistic and helpful. Bon voyage

### 5/5 — Wonderful app

*2019-02-07, version 1.2.26*

I accept that there may have been a couple of glitches here and there before I downloaded the app, but everything seems quite functional to me, and there's no confusion a quick Google can't fix. It's convenient to be able to access my book without carrying it around.

For those trying to open their ebooks, select the option "Copy to Books".

### 5/5 — Works fine

*2019-01-26, version 1.2.26*

Presumably there were bugs before but this works perfectly on my (by now Old) iPhone 6+

### 5/5 — What’s the Fuss??

*2018-12-25*

Got the Iceland book as a gift and discovered that through this app I can download a copy for free in iBooks. When I saw the reviews though, I was not expecting much. However, one major complaint that you had to give them permission to email you promotions etc is not true. After typing in my email and a password, the already-checked box says you give them permission. I unchecked the box, they accepted, and I was still able to download the book. Some of the features of the book are located in the app, but I was also, separately, able to download the complete book to iBooks. So this reader is very pleased!

### 5/5 — Great guide

*2018-02-19, version 1.2.16*

App and books are great! Unfortunately it gives me a invalid qr code message so I cannot download the book!
The guide is very informative though!
