You’ll receive dozens of meaningless warnings that re-direct you to the wrong settings panel. The fundamental pattern that the app is based around is unusual and unlike anything else I’ve worked with before and the documentation explains nothing so you’re left to devote a couple days to experimenting to see if you can get anything usable out of the $200 hardware. So far it’s been a terrible experience. The instructions are comically incomplete and setting it up is like following a game of Clue. Upgraded the firmware and done every troubleshooting angle. I’ve contacted help desk several times and submitted tickets over the course of the last month. Waited patiently, No response. emailed their support email per their instructions. Waited patiently, No response. Even downloaded Skype and messaged Michelle directly (per their instructions on fresh desk). NO RESPONSE. I deeply regret supporting this project and spending money on something that should but absolutely doesn’t work- and the worst part is, they don’t even care. ### 5/5 — Best portable mic ever! *2021-03-02, version 1.2.2.4* Can’t believe the quality ### 5/5 — Tiny mic that packs a punch *2021-02-16, version 1.2.2.4* This little microphone is amazing. The sound quality rivals my Rode shotgun mic at a fraction of the size. I can conceal the microphone on set and get crisp audio when my camera is far away from the talent. I also plan to use it for audio when doing drone videography. The app does what it is supposed to do. I can adjust the settings and gain of the microphone, see the levels while recording, and start and stop recording. That’s all I need from the app. I have not had any app crashes on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I am very satisfied with the Instamic and the app. ### 1/5 — Achtung *2021-01-18, version 1.2.2.4* 60€ Zoll Kosten in Deutschland bei Bestellung von einem einzigen Mikrofon. Das sollte doch bei einer Bestellung klar kommuniziert werden ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — iPhone 14 pro *2022-10-12, version 1.2.9* It works with android phones, but couldn’t connect to iPhone 14 pro ### 1/5 — No point of this app existing *2021-11-20, version 1.2.7* Upgraded the firmware, upgraded the app, rebooted my IOS phone… everything this developer said to do to all the others here complaining about the Instamic not connecting to the app because of the update is just ridiculous. People, get a rode wireless go or even a saramonic. I can’t support this product anymore. It’s just a mini recorder now where you have to guess if it’s actually recording the audio you need. If this is really the smartest Mic on Earth, I’d rather deal with the sub par rode and saramonic wireless mics with better app functionality. It’s really sad, I loved this mic, until it couldn’t connect with the app anymore. I suppose my case is one in a million to work according to the developers response to another reviewer on here. Notice all these negative reviews are around the same timeframe. I thought an update was to improve things not ruin things. On the other hand, the mic itself sounded good, but you’re going to have to second guess yourself when recording because the app should have been a solid companion. More headaches than functionality. Too good to be true I guess. One star for the mic itself and audio quality. Doesn’t work as advertised. ### 1/5 — Disappointing *2021-11-18, version 1.2.7* I really liked what this product used to offer. With compact hardware that offered clear/high quality audio, I was willing to turn a blind eye to the rudimentary app functionally seen in previous versions. I don’t know what happened with the latest iOS update but it completely trashed any capability of interfacing with the mic. I’ve been in contact with user support for the last month and have made zero progress despite every attempt to troubleshoot the problem. Uninstall, reinstall, download latest firmware update, restarting both the device and phone countless times. I’ve never written an app review before, but I’m so bothered by how much I paid for a mic that is now a glorified magnet. Hopefully instamic can do a complete overhaul of the app or at least make the device compatible with the native smart phone apps such as voice memo. ### 1/5 — Can’t connect with New App *2021-11-03, version 1.2.7* I’m having the same issue as everyone else. Instamic won’t connect to the app and renders the product worthless. Needed it for two weddings this weekend and was t able to connect at all. The app has been around way too long to still be limited in the ways it is. Not user-friendly at all. People leaving one star reviews have probably not tried to resolve it with instamic directly, and they really should. ### 5/5 — Great customer service *2021-12-09, version 1.2.8* When I first upgraded, it was a disaster. However, a few emails to Instamic and they responded right away with a few instructions, now the mic is working great. The stand alone mic is still the best way to use the Instamic in my opinion, but I have used it with FilmicPro successfully. They’re working on another update to fix the issues caused by updating the app, but in my opinion these little mics are the best things out there. ### 5/5 — Wish I had it in white *2021-12-09, version 1.2.8* Edited: after some hassle everything works nicely ### 5/5 — The best mic I’ve ever used *2021-12-08, version 1.2.8* I’ve probably used this mic more than anyone on Earth. I have over 30 of them now between all three generations of releases. I’ve seen bugs come and go; Michele and his team are always listening and always improving the hardware and software. If you’re having trouble with the app you need to update your firmware. This is still the least user friendly part of the process, but I know it’s something they’ll continue to improve because they’re literally improved everything else. The Pro Plus is a fantastic piece of hardware. The Instamic in general literally changed the way I work, unlocking recording potential I never dreamed was possible. I sympathize with people who have issues, I myself have had instances of frustration. But considering how many units i’ve used, how many hours of recording time they’ve all logged, it’s like 0.001% in the grand scheme of things. Every single piece of pro hardware/software i’ve ever used has had issues. In this case, I can trust Michele to do something about it. I can’t say that about many other products. Have patience, read the instructions, contact support. ### 5/5 — Love my Instamic & the app is now great *2021-12-07, version 1.2.8* I have three Instamics and the audio quality, convenience and small form factor is an incredible combination. The app lagged behind the hardware initially, but this has all changed. With time code and the ability to format your devices now within app, it’s unbeatable. Updating hardware could be a little easier, but this is a groundbreaking product, that’s in constant development, so some minor bugs here and there are to be expected. They’re always ironed out quickly. If you can live with the occasional fiddle when updating (and honestly, it’s not rocket science), this app/device is a game changer. ### 5/5 — Sensazionale *2021-11-13, version 1.2.7* Uno strumento di altissima qualità e semplicissimo da usare.
