This is really simple. Press and hold the button to record, release the button to listen to your voice. Compare the length of your recordings.

The moment that you release the record button, the app completely stops functioning and closes. I have not yet once been able to make a recording with this application. I thought if I restarted my phone it might work, but that did not help either.
