You should’ve left the old collar scheme or introduce an option to change it because this yellow is gross. ### 4/5 — Keeps getting better *2024-02-21, version 1.0.29* Director started out quite clunky compared to the original app, but it is consistently improving. It definitely starts faster than the original app ever did, but can still use some improvements to common workflows. My second hub died recently and to migrate to a new one I need this option. Right now when you enter insteon ID and trying to click next button nothing happens. 10 years and still no iPad version. So, for light switches alone it is excellent. I cannot comment on the rest of the device controls (although I still have them all - you name it, I have it… went all in on Insteon). Thought it was a great investment - who could possibly f-up a company like that with the ultimate domain name (smarthome.com)! I am thankful that someone stepped up and bought the company and are doing their best to resurrect it. I have to cancel out of that page, then click on log in, then enter my username and password. The switches and 6/8 button keypads are fantastic and very flexible. However, this app, and the Insteon platform in general, needs third-party integration capabilities to allow hardware from other manufacturers to be controlled. ### 1/5 — Unable to login even after password reset *2022-11-30, version 1.0.11* The old apps was working pretty good but this one not accessible eveb after a password reset. It always tells me that the login failed. I don't know how many times I reset the password but it fails everytime. I even sign in with a second email account and it's the same thing. Now, I have a whole bunch of Insteon devices, including a hub but I cannot access any of these with this app. It's terrible and I hope you will solve it. When I reset, still get the same message even though I can sign onto my account via web browser. The company has become unresponsive. Many users’ Hubs can no longer connect to the Insteon cloud servers and you cannot log into the service via the app any longer. Schedules you have already created still mostly work (with glitches) but you can now no longer change them nor can you manually toggle a device off or on, or change a scene. Time to move on to Lutron Caseta. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Director is now a winner! *2025-12-25, version 1.0.54* Most of the negative reviews on Director were from years ago and for a time after its introduction, I too was not a big fan and continued to use its predecessor. But over the past year, Director with all of its improvements, is now a winner! Thanks to the new management for their continuing commitment to making Insteon a leader in smart devices. ### 5/5 — Background color *2025-08-27, version 1.0.49* I love all of the improvements and the system keeps getting better. I much prefer the blue panel color over the yellow. Maybe the developers can add a color chg option. Keep up the good work. ### 5/5 — Keeps getting better and better *2024-06-04, version 1.0.35* The new owners keep improving Insteon Director, adding features that were previously only available in the hub app and even new features that didn't exist befote. No more manually configuring Insteon switches you should do it all through the app and let it program the switches for you. If you have an older installation, it might make sense to reset everything and start fresh or you can contact Insteon and for a small fee have your system remotely evaluated for any problems. ### 5/5 — Flat Works for straightforward setups *2024-02-26, version 1.0.30* I use this for a single home with about six lights, a garage door sensor and a motion sensor - it works very reliably. The connection to Alexa really helps make it easeir to control. New owners are making progress to further improve for more advanced users but I am really happy just as it is. ### 5/5 — App continues evolving in positive direction *2024-02-24, version 1.0.30* Big proponent of Insteon. Insteon Director is big improvement, especially aesthetically, over the Insteon for Hub app. Insteon very actively listens to its user-base and continues improving and refining feature-sets of the app, as well as their products and services. If it’s not to your liking today, be patient: don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. They’re listening and their continued updates and roadmap have proven such. From my vantage point, the future is “bright” for Insteon. ### 5/5 — Ignore old reviews *2024-02-22, version 1.0.29* This app has been hugely improved during the past few months and is now fully functional and more user friendly. If you’re an Insteon user, this app is an absolute must-have. The new owners of Insteon have resurrected a troubled company, have dedicated thousands of hours and untold $$ into what is now once again a #1 home automation product line and on-line service. My home is completely Insteon controlled, and this app manages it all. ### 5/5 — Getting there! *2024-02-21, version 1.0.29* I was underwhelmed when I adopted this technology a couple of years ago on the recommendation of a couple of friends. I too was suffering from X10 withdrawal. I’m seeing a lot of progress from this new bunch. Their hardware appears to be bulletproof, unlike the aforementioned X10. Keep it coming, Insteon. We need a pc/Mac version and interfaces with other technologies. ### 5/5 — It just works! *2024-02-21, version 1.0.29* Insteon hardware and this software just work. There is a bunch of other cheap stuff, and knockoffs that rely on WiFi, etc. Insteon has a RELIABLE dual protocol that has much more besides just working, like mesh, repeaters, easy 3 way switches, grouping, scenes. The list goes on. It’s an overlooked leader in home automation hardware and software that professional installers use besides DIY‘ers. ### 5/5 — App is much better than the Average *2024-02-13, version 1.0.29* The rewritten Director is a terrific App. It’s easy to use and very solid. The low average score is the result of a lot of old reviews that were posted while the new App was being completely rewritten.
