From making interactive winter scenes with snow falling in the foreground with a winter picture in the background to using it as an unconventional way to draw (just make it layer by layer, taking screenshots and then using those as backgrounds). I’ve even used it as a music visualizer when headphones are in. Of all the outstanding games and apps out there for iOS, Ions 2+ is one of the very best I’ve come across. You can get lost in this thing for hours just fiddling around with all the various buttons and sliders and man does it pay off! You can save all of your creations and delve into them any time you need a fix on that trippy thing you made. Really a very cool and relaxing app. Not at all a waist of time but more of an enhancement to time. Thanks for this hidden gem and I hope the word gets out and maybe even CNN will mention it. They should. It’s that good! And it’s only 99 cents! ### 5/5 — Outstanding *2017-10-25, version 1.1* I love interactive particle/line apps and this is the best I've found. I have many others with titles containing works like particles, lines, linear, laser, fireworks, lightning, gravity, plasma, fluid, toy, and yes the weird names too. This app has flexibility and depth. To start, it has a wide variety of precanned configurations to choose from. You can modify these, or start from scratch, and then store them as your own interactive creations. Nice! The emitters and fields, a great concept, are fully configurable and a lot of fun. Many many other configurable items too. Help screens clearly explain options. Pure eye candy in a huge variety of forms. Nope, I have no connection to the developer. (I often wonder that when reading reviews) Only enhancement I'd like is an option for more than 100,000 particles. Ok, true, that's a lot, and more than most others offer. DEVELOPERS I SALUTE YOU FOR AN AMAZING APP. ### 5/5 — Would it be possible ... *2016-08-21, version 1.1* List of things that I would love to see on an update is as follows: A way to numerically enter in values to the node / sliders. It's extremely difficult to get ".5" centripetal or centrifugal spin value. And nearly impossible to match / pair it with a negative node of equal value. This feature alone would give this app some real world scientific application. As I've spent hours just attempting to do this - and on one or 2 occasions came close. And I successfully modeled a cross section of the field created by 2 wires caring current the same direction and the field of force for which they produce. There are many other such experiments I'd like to attempt but don't because of the deep frustration I experience when trying to "guesstimate" my low intensity field value by endlessly using the inaccurate sliders. An option for a number entry box would be a welcomed feature. Give the particles their own friction to each other which would cause a user defined amount of drag on the particles they touch and themselves. A drawing tool to add boundaries / walls and curves and give those objects a charge +, -, or neutral. This would allow us to simulate many experiments. Ions already is a scientific playground but I would love an app that would allow me to experiment & build simulations that would inspire deeper insights into fields of force, attraction, repulsion, wave / particle duality wrapped up in an beautiful app such as yours. Let me finish by saying I love your ions app (both of them) it's amazing to work with the fields and essentially play with science. ### 5/5 — Coolest app *2015-10-30, version 1.1* The feature set is huge and the graphics incredible. The game itself is awesome, creativity is your only limit. This game is definitely worth the dollar and is one of my favorite apps. Oh and I'm not getting paid for this.... ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Great but missing obvious details *2019-09-05, version 1.2* The imagery is beautiful and easy to create with the simple interface however, there seems to be no way to remove the icons for the purposes of capturing a screenshot. So you may have something great going, and want to capture the image, but it will be littered with all of the little node icons. The snapshot option crashes the app so I don’t know if that’s supposed to do this. Also, using the touch controls is great fun, but if you have other ion nodes set up that you want to alter with touches, the risk of moving them accidentally is huge. There should be a way to both hide the icons/interface , and to also/simultaneously lock the nodes in place so you can touch freely with no worries. It would get 5stars otherwise but these are such glaring issues that it’s a wonder they weren’t implemented from day 1. ### 3/5 — I like the original Ion better *2015-08-21, version 1.0* A lot of the graphics now look cheesy and unimaginative. I'd had the app white out the display of my iPad Air forcing me to kill it. It’s virtually limitless. It lets you take screenshots, but if you want video of your creations you have to record your screen. It’s too bad the developer stopped updating on this amazing software. I’d love to see where this could go as far as a pro tool for iPad VFX creation. Just: wow! It took me too long to realise that you can hide the emitters and control bar menu by hitting the bottom right slider, the this was operator error. Load up a photo, add some emitters, hide the menus, and hit the iPad screen record for a quick way of adding snow, smoke, sparks and swirls to anything.
