you must have it if you like 70's music!

### 5/5 — It’s gas

*2022-01-02, version 1.0*

Sick app. (The c418 sample is in the bossanova style)

### 5/5 — i love it so mucj

*2021-12-25*

### 5/5 — Just like digging in the crates!

*2020-07-04, version 1.0*

Perfect for trap beats!

### 5/5 — Question

*2020-07-01*

I spent years looking for Optigan sounds to throw into a rompler, etc. Nothing ever worked that great. iOptigan has everything all in one place once you buy all the discs. My only issue is trying to figure out how to export a wav. Is this not available?

### 5/5 — Where’s my disc pak purchase?

*2020-03-28, version 1.0*

I love this so much, but I cannot see how to load the extra content I just bought.

Help?

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2020-03-26*

Got for free but bought sound packs. Very fun and so much better than many (if not any) sound/music generators out there. Very funky 70s feel and it’s really addable right from the get-go to your (short) projects. Unique, enjoyable, great fun. Leyland Kirby could have a field day butchering this music.

### 5/5 — scratching my head...

*2020-03-20, version 1.0*

So the app is the best. Seriously. Fun, creative, my type of weird. But for the life of me no matter how many pairs of headphones I have tested I can only get audio through the left headphone in this app??

### 5/5 — Beautifully presented & brilliant to play.

*2020-03-18, version 1.0*

A whole fantastic world to explore.
Many thanks!

### 5/5 — Sometimes the unexpected is cool!

*2019-08-30*

I bought this app out of curiosity and it turns out I find it really cool. Sure it’s cheesy as hell and it sounds old (with crackles and all other noises associated with vinyls) but that’s what makes it charm. You imagine what all of these sounds from yesteryears could bring to your music today and then the possibilities are infinite. Buy it!

### 5/5 — Absolute FUN

*2019-07-18, version 1.0*

Very well executed in every aspect. Tempo changes, a plethora of different sounds and settings. I highly recommend this identical replication of a wonderful machine.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 2/5 — Touch issues & audio clipping

*2020-04-30*

Update: There’s also audio level clipping, and since there’s no level control in the app, there’s nothing for the user to do about it. It gets worse when slowing the playback, using multiple keys (of course, because then it’s multiple samples), and adding reverb on the scaled notes.

The scaled note keyboard playing bug I reported below seems not to happen on the iPad Pro 12.9”.

One more star removed, now that I’ve found the audio level problem. Sigh.

Original review: I just started playing with this app and quickly found that the bottom row of controls doesn’t respond correctly. The buttons & keys will animate with touches near the bottom of the screen but the sounds aren't triggered unless the finger is moved up farther, which might be too far to trigger the controls (note: I’m using an iPhone 6s, rotated such that the lightning port is to the right, with iOS 12.x).

That’s pretty weird. Does that mean the developer has separate touch zones for audio triggers and for control animations?

This results in a music app that’s not very playable. Luckily it was free when I “bought” it; this kind of usability flaw in an app I’ve actually spent money on would result in a much worse rating.

### 3/5 — Great App, Needs Update

*2024-07-03*

Love how you’ve captured and recreated such a unique musical time capsule, but this app is 4+ years old and still on version 1.0 and that’s why this will have to be a 3-star review. I’m using an M1 iPad Pro with an external MIDI controller. The amount of stuck/phantom keys makes this unusable as anything other than a short-lived toy. I suggest: * Updating codebase to use AudioKit Engine, likely fixing any latency/stuck key issues * Adding toggle to allow app to run in background. Would love to play the app with my controller while playing from one of the many free PDFs you’ve made available, all on one iPad * Allowing app to be loaded as an AudioUnit Extension. Current InterApp Audio functionality is broken in Garageband and I’d love to be able to sequence these patterns with more control than what’s offered in-app * Updating app to include newly released sound packs as additional paid purchases * Providing clarification for the chord identification methods. The video on your site provides little to no help. You’ve got something really unique and special here. Consider showing it the continued love it deserves.

### 3/5 — Not my cup of tea...

*2020-04-13*

Not what I would use...ever...

But might be ok for some

### 3/5 — 好看，但沒什麼用

*2020-03-16, version 1.0*

。。。

### 3/5 — Very interesting...

*2018-08-19*

I’m still trying to figure out what format I could use this app in, but it’s pretty fun to mess around with. It does have inter app audio, but it is pretty buggy in n-Track Studio Pro. Audiobus compatibly would be great and the ability to be able to set the release of the keys would be a game changer. Otherwise, this is a fun toy.

### 4/5 — Good, but…

*2024-03-29, version 1.0*

E major plays the sample for D Diminished instead? It’s weird. The weirdest part is that it isn’t swapped. D Diminished still plays what it’s supposed to. PLSFIX!

### 4/5 — Stunning!

*2023-09-06, version 1.0*

Awesome App if an instrument of my dream. Will we soon see an AUV3 version of this?

### 4/5 — Great App.

*2021-03-13*

Brings me back to the day when I had my Optigan. My only criticism for this app is, I wish it had a way of limiting the loudness of the pops and scratches (equalizer?) they seem louder than I recall on my original optigan and not all of my discs were pristine. Otherwise, this is still an outstanding app! Thanks!

### 4/5 — Really cool but doesn’t fit modern screen sizes.

*2020-07-11, version 1.0*

This app is great, but it doesn’t fill the entire screen for more recent devices. If you could update the app with larger screen compatibility that would be amazing.

### 4/5 — very good except a few things

*2020-06-03, version 1.0*

the touch is a little off for the bottom row of buttons, and i cannot get any sound to come through the left of my headphones. kind of problematic since i wanted to use the samples to make music,,

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Incredible.

*2025-12-20, version 1.0*

Incredible app, love the optigan so much, i think optigan.com actually introduced me to this beautiful instrument.
Also, an error that I realized with the “Gay 90’s Waltz” disc, according to an actual picture of the disc it has 2 red flashers on it, one on the downbeat and on the 4th beat. Also, if you try and play Mr Wilson manually, for some reason when you enter the vamp loop section, the 5th switch turns downwards.

### 5/5 — Classic sounds! It’s just so awesome!

*2024-08-18, version 1.0*

One of my favorite apps. Still #1 in 2023! I mean 2024!!

### 5/5 — This is a truly amazing app

*2024-04-30*

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I can’t believe how awesome this app is. If you’ve ever wanted an Optigan, please just do yourself a huge favor and get this. As a live musician and home recording obsessive who is always looking for new ideas, great crackly analog sounds and beats - this is a literal dream come true. I may get an iPad just to experience this app on a larger scale. That’s how great it is. Thanks, Pea and team! 🎹

### 5/5 — Very very cool

*2023-12-17*

I love this. It’s a shame it’s dead, but hey like all cool things, they don’t last long 👍

### 5/5 — Great for experimentalists

*2023-09-22*

A digital recreation of an accompaniment device from decades past, I have never used it for it’s intended function. But if you are into experimentation/ambience/noise and dark ambient genres, this amazing app and the downloadable tracks for it are a treasure trove of wobbly lo if wonderfulness. Slow the speed right down, chuck it through a reverb, and you are away. A superb left field app. There early is nothing else like it on the App Store.

### 5/5 — Classic sounds! It’s just so awesome!

*2023-02-10, version 1.0*

One of my favorite apps. Still #1 in 2023!

### 5/5 — Top shelf.

*2023-01-27, version 1.0*

This is fantastic.
Really well done.

### 5/5 — Amazing.

*2023-01-15, version 1.0*

I use this app everyday, it’s just incredible but, we need iChliton!

### 5/5 — Beauty and very similar

*2022-10-07*

This sounds just like the Optigan I had. I only had a couple of discs and this has the whole set. Very much worth the price. I should have known Pea Hicks was involved. It is outstanding!

### 5/5 — Great but one complaint

*2022-09-19, version 1.0*

I was hoping that the Talentmaker discs would be on here
