## What is IP Inbound?

IP Inbound is an application that helps pilots fly an IP-to-target run to an accurate time on target. This application is useful for formation demo pilots, or pilots who participate in simulated tactical events, and need to be over a target at a precise time.

THE PROBLEM

Maybe you are lead of a formation flight over a ceremony and you have specific time on target (TOT), or you are being tested on your ability to put a flour bomb on a mock target at a precise moment. In either case, you are likely given three pieces of information:

1. Your target location
2. A desired time on target
3. An initial point (IP) or run-in direction

Your job is to select a run-in speed, and plan your arrival over the IP so that you arrive over the target at TOT. For flights that must coordinate with a band or pyrotechnics display on the ground, or for aircraft that are being tested on their timing, seconds matter.

THE SOLUTION

This iOS application allows you to select or enter a precise target coordinate, choose an IP bearing and distance, and a desired ground speed, and then enter your TOT. It then provides you with useful information during each phase of your flight:

ON THE GROUND, it shows you a countdown to your TOT for takeoff planning.

AIRBORNE, PRE-IP it provides you with lateral guidance to the IP, and a countdown for when you must exit the IP to make your TOT. It will also automatically provide you with direct-to-target guidance if it calculates that you must skip your IP in order to make your TOT.

AIRBORNE, POST-IP it provides you with lateral guidance for the IP-to-target run, and tells you to speed up or slow down to meet your TOT.

The app automatically includes turning time in its calculations: For example, if you are running very early and opt to make a 360 or an S-turn during the IP-to-target run, it will include the time needed to complete the turn in its estimated-time-of-arrival (ETA) calculations, and airspeed guidance.

## Key features

- Precise target coordinate entry
- IP bearing and distance selection
- Desired ground speed input
- Time on target (TOT) calculation
- Pre-IP lateral guidance
- Post-IP lateral guidance
- Automatic turning time inclusion

## Frequently asked questions about IP Inbound

### What is IP Inbound used for?

IP Inbound is designed to help pilots achieve a precise time on target (TOT) for their flights. It calculates the necessary run-in speed and provides guidance to ensure arrival at the exact desired moment.

### Who would benefit from using IP Inbound?

Pilots involved in formation flights for ceremonies, simulated tactical events, or any situation requiring exact timing over a target would find IP Inbound beneficial. It's particularly useful when coordinating with ground events or for performance testing.

### Does IP Inbound work offline?

The provided description does not specify offline functionality. However, as a flight planning and guidance tool, it is likely to require an active internet connection for certain features or updates.

### What information does IP Inbound require from the user?

Users need to input the target location, desired time on target (TOT), and initial point (IP) bearing and distance. The app also allows for the selection of a desired ground speed.

### How does IP Inbound provide guidance during a flight?

Before reaching the IP, it offers lateral guidance to the IP and a countdown for exiting it to meet TOT. After the IP, it provides lateral guidance to the target and advises on speed adjustments.

### Does IP Inbound account for turns in its calculations?

Yes, IP Inbound automatically includes turning time in its calculations. For example, if a pilot opts to make a 360 or S-turn during the IP-to-target run, the app incorporates this into its ETA and airspeed guidance.

### What devices is IP Inbound compatible with?

IP Inbound is available for iPhone and iPad devices, as indicated by its supported devices list.

### How frequently is IP Inbound updated?

The latest version of IP Inbound was released on 2026-06-26, indicating recent development activity. Specific update frequency is not detailed but suggests ongoing support.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0.1 — 2026-08-08

- Minor improvements and bug fixes.

### 2.0 — 2026-06-26

# WATCHOS APP

IP Inbound 2.0 now includes a watchOS app. If you have an Apple Watch, you can view a simplified CDI that will help you fly your approach at a glance.

# LIVE ACTIVITY

IP Inbound 2.0 also includes a Live Activity. If you swap to ForeFlight or another app, you will still see a countdown timer to help you maintain TOT awareness.

# OTHER CHANGES

- iOS 26.0 is now the minimum iOS version.
- Added Liquid Glass styling to the coordinate keypad.
- Fixed a bug where the “No Location” view would briefly appear when beginning navigation.
- Fixed a bug where losing GPS signal would cause the app to return you to the Target Setup view.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-06-18

* Fixed the app freezing on the IP setup offset fields.
* Offset distance and time now round to whole units when switching between distance or time for IP offset.

### 1.3 — 2026-06-09

REQUIRED GROUND SPEED

The fly screen now shows the ground speed you need to make your Time-On-Target. When you're running early or late, a readout gives you the first-order speed to fly to hit your TOT, so you can tell at a glance whether a timing fix is achievable. The callout stays out of your way once you're inside the on-time window, appearing only when you actually need to correct.

POST-PASS SUMMARY

After you overfly the target, a new “Past Target” screen reports how many seconds early or late you were against your planned TOT, color-coded so you can read your result instantly. From there, one tap flies you to your next upcoming target, or you can pick another — making back-to-back passes quick to set up.

MORE REALISTIC TURN MODEL

Turn time, turn radius, and turn-aware timing now assume a 30° angle of bank instead of 45°, better reflecting a typical run-in turn. Guidance numbers and the IP run-in sequencing are tuned to match.

OTHER CHANGES

- Targets are now sorted by Time-On-Target.
- Pre-IP timing now references your desired IP-crossing time, so early/late guidance reflects when you should cross the IP rather than the target's TOT.
- Fixed guidance flip-flopping between “to IP” and “to target” while holding or orbiting at the IP to burn time.
- Fixed the setup flow occasionally jumping straight into the fly view instead of starting at Define Target.
- Updated the tutorial and screenshots.

### 1.2.4 — 2026-04-15

Just some minor performance improvements to reduce instances of app hanging.
