## What is iRead?

iRead is a calm reader for people learning a language through real texts. Bring in a book or an article in the language you're learning, read at your own pace, translate unfamiliar words with a tap, and keep them in a personal vocabulary.

READ ANYTHING
• Books in FB2 (including fb2.zip), EPUB, and TXT
• Articles and notes in Markdown
• PDFs — select text right on the page, and recently opened files stay
  one tap away, at the page you stopped on
• Pages of paper books — take a photo and the text is recognized automatically
• Pasted text and anything shared from other apps

TRANSLATION WITHOUT THE INTERNET
• Translation runs on your device — fast and private
• Any pair of system-supported languages: you choose what you read and what you translate into
• Language packs download once; after that everything works offline

A PERSONAL VOCABULARY, WITH REVIEW
- Save words and phrases together with the sentence you found them in
- Categories, favorites, and search
- Simple spaced repetition: short sessions of up to ten words, separate
  for each language — you only ever answer "I know it" or "I don't", and
  you can keep going if you want another round
- Quiet statistics, no streaks: total words, added this week, learned,
  and the words you find hardest
- Saved words are gently underlined as you read, so what you've learned
  shows up in the text itself

### 1.8.3 — 2026-08-22

- Recently opened PDFs now stay one tap away in your library, each at
  the page where you stopped. The files themselves stay where they are —
  nothing is imported into the app, and nothing is synced.
- If a file has moved or been renamed, it's still found. If it's gone,
  the app says so instead of quietly dropping it, and offers to point it
  at the file again — keeping your page.
- On the word screen, the sentence a word came from and the book it came
  from are now clearly separate. Words saved without a sentence no longer
  look as if the source were the context.
- The library got a visual pass: the unsorted texts and the recent PDFs
  now look like part of the shelf, not like leftovers at the bottom.
- Fixed several problems in the PDF reader: the page could jump back to
  where you opened the file, the language menu could close by itself,
  and the translation panel could flicker on the first word.
- Various small fixes and improvements.

### 1.8.2 — 2026-08-18

- Review cards can now show the sentence you saved the word in, before
  you reveal the answer. It's optional — tap the hint only if you want
  it, and the sentence appears with the answer as usual otherwise.
- More words now keep their sentence. Long sentences, and text without
  punctuation, used to lose the context entirely; now a passage around
  the word is kept instead.
- Fixed: when iCloud wasn't available, the app could open a different,
  empty library. It now always opens the same one, whether you're
  signed in or not.
- Fixed: if the library couldn't be opened at all, the app used to
  start up looking empty but working — and anything added in that state
  was lost on the next launch. It now says what happened and offers to
  try again.
- Various small fixes and improvements.

### 1.8.1 — 2026-08-17

- After finishing a review session you can now keep going — a Continue
  button appears if you still have words due, with how many are left.
- The reader's toolbar is now a single button: text size, editing, and
  moving a book to a shelf all live in one menu, leaving more room for
  the text.
- Various small fixes and improvements.

### 1.8.0 — 2026-08-12

- Review has been rebuilt and simplified. A word now moves through three
  steps — today, in three days, in two weeks — and after that counts as
  learned and leaves the rotation.
- A new Progress screen: how many words you've saved in total and this
  week, a breakdown by language, and your hardest words — the ones you
  miss most often.
- The review icon now shows a quiet dot instead of a number.
- Fixed: words saved after updating could stay invisible to review. They
  are added back automatically, together with their history.
- Fixed: when syncing across devices, the same word could be scheduled
  twice. Duplicates are now merged and the better progress is kept — you
  may see a smaller number of words due than before. Nothing is lost.
- Deleting a saved word now asks for confirmation.
- Various small fixes and improvements.

### 1.7.1 — 2026-07-31

- The app interface is now available in French, Spanish, and German.
- Scrolling through your library is now noticeably smoother and faster.
- You can now turn off highlighting for a specific saved word — handy for very common words that would otherwise be underlined in every paragraph. Open the word and toggle it off; the word stays in your vocabulary and reviews.
- Fixed a rare crash when deleting a shelf.
- Various small fixes and improvements.
