Am I missing something?? ### 2/5 — Review *2020-11-26, version 2.0.1* So there is some sonic trickery going on here for sure and it does a good job of making music listened to through headphones sound like you’re in room listening to speakers. But seems to me it’s just a sophisticated version of the EQ that some amplifiers and AV set ups are able to apply (but through headphones). So if you want music to sound different to the way in which it was recorded and produced go ahead. It’s pretty sympathetic and subtle but don’t let it kid you that it’s “uncovering” things that have been “lost”. It can’t... because whatever information it is claiming to recreate isn’t there. So it’s a trick - a good one but it’s a trick all the same. What it adds in a larger presentation, it loses in subtlety. It is particularly pronounced in heavily panned parts to left and right and those that pan across the soundstage. Recordings lose width but gain depth and scale. That sounds cool to start with but can become fatiguing to listen to. In the advertising it does the thing that should always ring alarm bells ie a famous artist endorsing it. As most of them wouldn’t know a good recording if it fell on their foot (I can’t believe Roger Taylor could have listened to any Queen album using it and thought it was improved - if he did, that just proves my point) this is somewhat far from a guarantee. Lastly, the damn thing crashes in iOS when I try to link it to my Apple Music account and I won’t use Spotify so turns out, I can’t use it anyway. So given that, and that the headphones are £300 ish... I’m out ### 1/5 — ??? *2020-10-23, version 1.5.4* It must just be me or is the button is wired up in reverse! The audio is significantly worse with this on. Is it just a mono stereo switch as the stereo image is crushed by it. Any airy treble seems to vanish. All it seems to do is move mids into the centre which might help people with poor hearing with intelligibility. I tried a pair of studio grade cans then a cheap pair of buds but both are better with the before audio with a pixilated picture. ### 1/5 — IOS update death knell for app *2020-09-23, version 1.5.0* Unfortunately the update to cover IOS 14, still renders ITunecompatibility useless, I have Apple Music, but due to Apple restrictions, I cannot connect to my library ### 2/5 — Broken by ios14 *2020-09-17* Will not open since upgrading. Way too vague about what their technology actually does and switching between the normal version of a track and the iris version seems to bump up the volume and change the channels so you can’t accurately compare the 2 versions. Seems to me like this is mostly just an expensive equaliser with flashy marketing. ### 2/5 — It moved the soundstage around a bit *2020-08-21, version 1.4.6* I’m ok that it moved the soundstage around but it’s only available on Spotify and Apple Music.. neither of which are HD.. It sounds different but still low quality sound... ### 2/5 — Can’t Register *2020-08-19* Registration doesn't work. My email addresses are not seen as valid and there’ no explanation on how to get a Fast Track code. I’m interested in how this technology can work with Flexound Augmented Audio speakers. ### 3/5 — Frequency shuffling? *2020-08-19* My initial impression is similarity to the Waves PS22 plugin that shuffles frequencies between the left and right channel and enables the reduction of stereo information specifically in lower frequencies. This adds impact and perceived level but also takes away stereo ambience. In some tracks I auditioned, instruments that were formally separated were almost on top of each other. In short, the sound is different but not better for me. It’s hard to improve upon tracks already mixed and mastered by world class engineers, although a case can be made that listening on headphones is a binaural experience that widens the stereo image beyond what the mix and mastering engineer intended. I can understand the plausibility of this algorithm but it’s just not for me. ### 1/5 — Unwilling to provide Apple Music access? *2020-08-11* I like the Iris technology, but unfortunately there is no way to connect to Apple Music to listen to it???? Pure stupidity! Apparently they are only trying to sell their $400 USD headphones. I also have Tidal, and again no way to access it, only Spotify and iTunes - and iTunes could not connect properly. As an audio engineer and musician - I can tell you, you are going to lose a lot of customers until you get this fixed and stop trying to sell Iris only through use of your headphones! **Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. We're happy to hear you like the technology. As the app is a beta app full integration with other streaming platforms isn't in our plans, the IRIS App is designed as a demo of our technology. Full integrations take an incredible amount of agreement on the streaming partner side, which is a key limitation here. For now the IRIS Flow Headphones are the way to Listen Well unlimited. However, who knows what the future may hold! ### 4/5 — Unreal *2020-08-03, version 1.4.0* Adds depth and clarity just as advertised. I was astonished how much detail I was missing from my music. I tried it on both my Bose over ears and AirPod pros and it definitely makes a difference. Just ordered my set of Flow RBR editions. The only con is I find the app cuts off and isn’t really compatible with the AirPod controls. ### 1/5 — Would rate 5 stars *2020-08-03* This app is amazing. But the fact I can’t access Apple Music makes this app unusable for me and many others. They had quick customer service and they really have something special here. If only we could use our music... **Developer response:** We feel your frustration! Whilst we would love IRIS to be available through all streaming platforms these developments take a while to happen. The IRIS Flow Headphones now on sale allow you to access the IRIS software however you choose to consume audio. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Broken app, broken headphones *2025-02-23, version 2.2.0* The software people behind this are completely inept. The headphones keep disconnecting and reconnecting, and the app cannot be used bc the sign up returns an ‘admin only’ error. Doesn’t matter how good the listening is supposed to be if not a single thing can be used. BTW I have a regular sized head and those headphones clamp 2x too hard too. I assume that iris gave hone bust? Couldn’t be anymore unimpressed ### 1/5 — Took our money, 3 yrs later they’re gone. *2023-12-26, version 2.2.0* Bought a pair of the IRIS Flow Headphones back in 2020 when they were seed funding amidst the chaos of COVID lockdowns. Today there is no support for their product, no communication, no active social media, or support for those needing a spare part. Is this how you treat the customers who backed your fledgling project? Lol ### 1/5 — App detecting Headphones not even working *2020-12-27, version 2.0.1* Tried many many times setting up my Black Iris with the app. Followed the first step and did NOTHING after that. The app doesn’t even see the headphones and can’t display its telemetry. Started to make me feel regretting buying this headphones. Top of it. The Red Bull version is on its way. Wow. There is a remarkable difference in quality and I don’t think I can go back to songs without it quite frankly.
