## What is IsletSwipe?

IsletSwipe is a professional tool for communicating the expert opinions on microscopic images of isolated pancreatic islets. The application is available for free download, but the users from around the world must be individually registered into the working group in order to get access to the actual content. The application allows users to classify individual images and their content (islets) into categories, which are statistically evaluated. The purpose of the application is to build a consensus on the image quality and islet borders in order to improve the web service IsletNet. 

The total number of images and islets awaiting the user in the active set is visualized at the top. Three images of the active set are uploaded. For each microscopic image the quality is to be evaluated. A simple swipe gesture can be used by the user to  classify contours of selected individual islets marked by arrows as true or false, or to abstain from evaluating. The overall quality of the islet contours are then evaluated. The application is designed as game with Hall of fame and awards.

IsletSwipe release 1.6.11 brings many new features, bugfixes and stability improvements:
- Images can now be launched in a "review' mode, where you can browse them without swiping or rating them. This is useful for checking your markings before submitting them.
- Information about your ratings is now visible from the main page, as an easy reference
- New image modes: certain images may now be only used for only drawing custom contours, other images may require you to only rate individual islet contours, and others require the full rating complement
- Progress bar: you can now track your progress while rating an image using the top progress bar on your screen. You can also tap it to easily navigate through an entire image!
- Tutorial: IsletSwipe now features a visual and detailed tutorial to guide you whenever you need help. Click on the "i" icon in the top-right corner of your screen to open it!
- Visual upgrade: updated visuals of the app and matched colors to a common color palette
- Troubleshooting: Error messages are now more coherent and explain options of solving them interactively.

Other improvements:
- Stability improvements: contour downloading now occurs on startup, speeding up the process of opening images for the first time
- All data is now locally cached, enabling better offline function and more stability even during server downtime

### 1.1 — 2021-10-15

Major functionality update: editing contours!
Contours on some islets may seem ambiguous or erroneous, and so IsletSwipe will give the option, since this version, to add your own contour to a specific islet. Try swiping to indicate a "false" rating and an "edit contours" button will pop up. Clicking on it will engage contour edit mode, where you can freely draw on your display. Once you are happy with your custom contours, click on submit to save the contour to your device. These contours will be sent once you click "send" to the server. 
Other minor improvements:
- When clicking on an award GIF, it should now play back seamlessly
- Ratings for micrograph quality and contours can now be submitted without an internet connection, internet is required only when clicking the blue button "send" on the home page.
