Bugs. *2025-11-25, version 4.8.1* As of late, I’ve been getting many error messages saying that “something is wrong, please try again later”, or worse, error pop-ups with no text at all. UI hasn’t changed since I started using it 4 years ago, and then it already looked as if it was from the iPhone 4 era. Given that competition also offers fractional shares, have a much better interface and doesn’t crash and load slowly, it baffles me how poorly maintained this mobile app is. ### 1/5 — System is not available *2025-04-28, version 4.7.4* Been using this for almost 5 years now. No improvement to the app. Login issues, system not available, system down….lousy interface and slow email response. ### 1/5 — App works but needs a refresh *2025-04-07, version 4.7.3* I’m starting to wonder if there are ever any plans to revamp the mobile app. The app is so dated, its UI and UX feel 20 years old, and it still does not support the taller display ratio introduced since iPhone X (meaning ugly black borders top and bottom), and no Face ID support. But not being able to close a position when all my other brokerages can, is dangerous. I’m only holding one position and once I can close that position, I’m deleting this app and company. In order to reactivate I need to pay RM5, to withdraw all the money, need at least RM10 remain in the account. My account is ok in the web version. The app doesn’t recognize my session after logging in and doesnt display any error messages ### 1/5 — Awful UI leading to Losses *2024-05-20, version 4.5.2* Mistakenly sold instead of buying due to the awful trading user interface. 6 times over the past 2 years, half of the profits gone to compensating the losses due to the UI. That’s it. I’m pulling my funds out and bidding goodbye. ### 1/5 — 3 years and no UI improvements *2024-05-17, version 4.5.2* It’s been 3 years since I last reviewed this app and noted the UI was outdated and not taking advantage of the full size of iPhone screens. Today, 3 years later, the UI is still the same size as before (suited for Touch ID phone, which are no longer on sale), and has big black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. ### 1/5 — Barely usable and buggy *2024-04-25, version 4.5.2* The app is only usable for trading, there are bugs everywhere from viewing the your account to reading news/notifications. The UI is so outdated and limited, the experience I have so far instinctively recommended other trading platforms like moomoo is a better choice. ### 1/5 — Simply Outdated *2024-03-17, version 4.5.2* Been using this app for quite a while, it is very outdated in terms of UI and functionality. Not seeing the teams put into efforts on improvement, doesn’t have roadmap on the product journey. Please take a look at MooMoo, this app is no where near ### 1/5 — Outdate UI UX *2023-10-27, version 4.4.6* You would expect a investment company to work on their digital app to make it more intuitive and easier to navigate so to attract more users, however this is not the case for Rakuten. I personally would suggest other more modern looking app like Tiger BBS, Webull, Moomoo etc, especially with the old looking app the security could be at risk if someone wants to exploit the system. ### 1/5 — Recurring Crashing Issues *2023-08-21, version 4.4.5* Update your app, or at least fix it. This is the hands-down the worst app I’ve ever used. This app has been crashing the whole day today and it’s not the first time. ### 1/5 — Not usable and annoying *2023-06-07, version 4.4.1* Has too many notifications. Notification leads to error pages. The UI doesn’t make sense and it feels like it had security concerns on the page as well. I don’t even know why Apple even allows this app on the store. I just deleted this app ‘cos can’t log in and no other choice for user to make. Yesterday was ok login but today tried thousands times still can’t. When choose problem login, show a stupid web page where i try login thru it but when i want to key name the keypad is appear half where the other half and delete key not shown and it is a locked page even you turn the phone around, the page stay still with half keypad you can’t do any thing else except exit by pressing ‘home’ button to exit! ### 1/5 — Outdated UI and buggy. *2025-12-24, version 4.8.4* Rakuten seriously needs to rework their app. Date UI. Blank error messages. No way of validating or testing MFA. It’s appalling as a long term customer that this app remains the same with no major improvement. The entire MFA deployment appears rushed without a simple approach to activate it from the app, like all contemporary apps in the market. Even though it looks really barebones and fit for the iPhone 4 generation, the app really does work well and smoothly though some welcome additions like Face ID, gesture swiping and maybe an always on screen option would help. So far I haven’t encountered any issues that are dealbreakers but I have taken a point off the 5 stars as the Japanese version of the app which is the latest, seems way more updated.
