### 4/5 — Decent, but gaps

*2026-08-24, version 9.1.24*

Decent dictionary. Has essential vocabulary and excellent interface/ease of use for conjugations etc. Lacking more advanced or nuanced vocabulary and find myself often still using other online services for that. Last, often get pronunciation incorrect so don’t rely on that feature

### 4/5 — Best dictionary for Italian Learners

*2024-07-07, version 8.3.15*

This is the best dictionary for Italian Learners I found for ios. I don’t have much to complain as it’s awesome. Just two nitpicks: 1. I wish there was a easier way to listen to pronunciation (like a speaker icon). Currently I need to long press on the word and click pronounce button. 2. I noticed food names are missing, e.g., “porcini” or “tortellini”

### 4/5 — Needed

*2023-11-20, version 8.3.15*

This app is good for vocabulary and verbs, but it needs more explanations of how the grammar works. It does have very good vocab and mistake reviews once you find out where they live on the app.

Users definitely need a dictionary, an internet connection to research grammar, and also a conversation app. I use it in combination with Pimsleur which has very good explanations and forces you to converse.

There is no rhyme or reason to vocabulary choices. Why do I need the word for a whale before I know how to ask for directions, a street, a bathroom?

Sequencing and more than the basic grammatical information need improvement.

Beware of the challenges and competitions. I find that if I let the app pull me into those, I waste time on speeding through the higher point reviews and then stop progressing with the language lessons. So—I am swearing off those!

### 5/5 — Best Italian app

*2023-03-12, version 8.3.15*

Use this all the time, especially to check the ending for the verbs

### 5/5 — I HATE REVIEWS

*2023-02-22, version 8.3.15*

The app works just fine, except for the review pop-ups.

### 4/5 — E sempre pronto

*2023-02-21, version 8.3.15*

Quando mi bisongna

### 5/5 — Italian Dictionary is a very good app

*2022-12-22, version 8.3.15*

I like it and use it. The fact that the dictionary gives good examples of usage puts the meaning in context. It also helps a lot with pronunciation.

### 5/5 — Literally the best Italian-English dictionary available

*2022-12-16, version 8.3.15*

Literally the best Italian- English dictionary available. Been using it for over ten years. Paid 10 euro for it on my first phone and it transferred over to my new one without a problem.
Type in either language and it translates instantly. No switching needed. And it’s fast, and offline. No internet needed. Pronunciation everywhere on the app. Just tap a word or phrase. There are dozens of features that I’ve never even used.
Love it. Thank you for developing and maintaining this app.

### 5/5 — A great app

*2022-11-29, version 8.3.15*

A fantastic tool for learning. The best bit of money I have ever spent.Recently advertisements are appearing constantly which is very annoying as this is being used as an educational tool.
I can see why you need ads , but it would be nice if the customers were given the choice of ad -free contents for a greater annual fee. I would gladly pay twice as much for ad -free access to this app.

### 5/5 — The best dictionary of al

*2022-10-08, version 8.3.15*

This is far and away the best bilingual dictionary I have ever found including fat paper books. I’m working on Italian. I only wish that they could make other cross combinations without English. I would love to have a French Italian dictionary. My paper French Italian dictionaries are awful

The idea of scrapping separate directions and listing all the words together was a stroke of genius. Why haven’t they all done that? Also just find a verb and conjugate it!

There are obviously limits on the number of examples that can be attached to an entry but vidalingua is better than all the online dictionaries and many of the paper tomes.

If I were younger and needed a job I would try to get one with this outfit.

### 5/5 — English/Italian/Italian English

*2022-10-03, version 8.3.15*

I have been using this for years. It’s very good, though usage notes would be helpful.

### 5/5 — Great application!

*2022-08-09, version 8.3.15*

A must have dictionary for those learning Italian. I especially found the verbs tab to be helpful in learning verb conjugations for many Italian verbs.

### 4/5 — Great app but please add dark mode!

*2022-07-04, version 8.3.15*

My eyes. They hurt.

### 5/5 — Love this dictionary

*2022-06-23, version 8.3.15*

I find the search keys are excellent. The translations are spot on

### 5/5 — Italian Dictionary

*2022-05-03, version 8.3.15*

Very helpful, easy to use app - especially the verb conjugation function. Pronunciation also a nice feature.

### 5/5 — Review needs more words. Otherwise very good

*2022-03-06, version 8.3.15*

Great. App. Only shortcoming is that it needs more words.

### 4/5 — Congratulations to .....

*2021-12-08*

all those involved in the development and updates. Extremely great when used in conjunction with iPad! Could,be rated 5 stars if it had had "favourites" function to record the words that I want to come back from time to time during my learning Italian. The dictionary would be greater if it has more idiomatic entries and example sentences. I do't think "phrases" are needed.

**Developer response:** Hello,
Our app has the ability to save specific words and review them as flashcards, just choose words as favorites by tapping on the heart icon. Then limit Flashcards to "Favorites Only" by tapping on the Settings icon at the top of the Flashcards screen. Could you please email info@vidalingua.com, so we can work together to make our app perfect?

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2021-11-06, version 8.3.15*

I use this every day.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time and money

*2024-11-25, version 8.3.15*

This has got to be the worst app in existence. After installing I asked to translate ‘I do not understand’ to Italian and the only suggestion of possible available sentences was ‘I don’t mind’ - all others were about plumbing - ‘idraulica’. I then tried ‘Io non capisco’ and ‘Non capisco’ (‘I don’t understand’) and the only suggested English translation was ‘Nonchalance’.
But you already know you’re going to ignore my advice because the app has 5-star reviews and ‘Hey, I like being part of what’s happening!’

### 1/5 — Very bad app

*2020-02-04*

So many English word, I need Italian word within English translation, not a English dictionary , it’s a mess , I want my money back

**Developer response:** Hello,
Italian Dictionary + has over 250,000 entries and about half of them are Italian words, phrase, examples and conjugations. Type any Italian word into the search bar such as "parlare" and tap on the word in the lookup list to see detailed information.
Can you please email support@vidalingua.com, Attention Marc, so I can make sure the issue is resolved for you?

### 1/5 — Very Basic

*2016-04-18, version 6.2.71*

I just paid $14.99 to upgrade, as the vocabulary was too limited and immediately a pop up appeared asking me to pay another $8.00 to upgrade again. (Annoying.) And I've just tried looking up several words very few of them are in the extended version I forked out for. Now I have to buy the Oxford Paravia one. Unless you're an absolute beginner, this one isn't much use.

### 1/5 — Don't waste your time on this

*2011-12-07, version 5.1.5*

Complete waste of money wish I had read other reviews first. Didn't recognise any of the words I put in and I was trying to study a book from the easy reader series!!!

### 1/5 — Utter. Cr@p

*2011-05-30, version 4.3.1*

Don't waste your money. The free app is OK but the paid version is useless

### 1/5 — A mess

*2011-03-30, version 4.3.1*

The free version convinced me to buy this, but unbelievably the paid version actually has LESS features! There is an entire section dedicated to conjugating verbs, but no way to find the translated equivalent or even the untranslated version if you don't know the proper verb name. For example, if you try to look up 'ho' ('i have') there is NO WAY to find out what it means!
This app seems to have the data to one day be useful, but the user experience is atrocious - I would honestly believe that no one who is not already competent in both languages has ever used it. In summary, this app has so far been unable to work either as a learning tool or as a point of reference; save yourself the money and type what you want to know into google

### 1/5 — crashes all the time

*2011-03-13, version 4.3.1*

The app crashes so often that its unusable.

### 1/5 — Mr

*2010-06-18, version 0*

I bought this Ap after downloading the free version and I wish I had not bothered. The full version hype in the advert does not deliver, I expected for the price to get Audio Translations or at least phonetically written ones of the Italian words, but got neither. All in all a very poor quality product.

### 2/5 — Paid for premium and still have ads?

*2018-11-25, version 7.1.2*

I paid for the premium version and still have the ads. Dictionary is pretty good but ads are awful.

### 3/5 — Italian Dictionary

*2020-09-12, version 7.3.12*

This is the best app so far. It has nearly everything. I second the few comments suggesting improvements. Even as is, it is much better than its competitors. However, it still lacks a robust vocabulary.

*2024-11-21, version 8.3.15*

Multiple definitions, usage illustrations and verb conjugations all make this a comprehensive and indispensable tool. Bravo!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2024-08-28, version 8.3.15*

I use this app daily, to find a new word, but mostly to know the variants of it’s use. The ‘contaxt’ translations are truly useful to me

### 5/5 — Ease of use

*2024-04-06, version 8.3.15*

This is an excellent app. I have used it too many times to count and I find what I need every single time.

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2024-03-25, version 8.3.15*

I have owned this App for years and use it many times a week. It is fast and easy to use. You do not need an internet connection to use most of the features. I frequently look up the verb conjugations. They are all included.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2024-03-15, version 8.3.15*

I am a beginning student of Italian and this app is extremely helpful. I have print dictionaries but they do not pronounce the words for me.

### 5/5 — Simple and useful

*2024-02-23, version 8.3.15*
