### 5/5 — Love italic type

*2023-12-19, version 1.0*

I love the ease italic type has in keeping my book life organized! I love that it keeps me motivated all year long to meet my reading goal and read with our book club too! Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — LOVE this App!

*2023-12-19, version 1.0*

Italic Type is the perfect way to reconnect with reading, and an amazing antidote to our world of article overload and endless soundbytes. Using this app helps me prioritize doing what I love - immersing myself in stories, lessons, and characters that remind me of what it means to be human. So grateful for how easy it is to connect with friends while reading, recommend books, and capture the things that matter most!

### 5/5 — Clean, easy way to engage with books

*2023-12-04, version 1.0*

Italic Type has replaced Goodreads for me. I was tired of all of the advertising and recommendations based solely on popularity - after reading one too many overwrought reads, I made the move and haven't looked back! Italic Type has a simple, pleasant, straightforward design which I appreciate, but more than that the Book Board and shared Book Boards allow for engagement with the text and with others. Being able to take and upload photos makes a huge difference, too. And the queue, completed, archived, and paused sections are intuitive and helpful forms of organization for my messy, always-growing virtual bookshelves. Thank you!!!

### 5/5 — I love Italic Type!!

*2023-11-20, version 1.0*

This is the perfect book app. I love how simple and beautiful it is. I love that I can keep track of book notes by uploading pictures for each book. Very excited to use it to track my 2024 reading goals.

### 5/5 — Very useful app

*2023-11-20, version 1.0*

I am particularly intrigued by the capabilities around taking notes and photos.

### 5/5 — I love this product.

*2023-11-17, version 1.0*

I’m a power user. Italic has transformed me from a person who reads to a Reader. I have read hundreds of books over the past few years. I will continue to use this product. Heads and shoulders above Goodreads.

### 5/5 — LOVE IT, OBSESSED!

*2023-11-17, version 1.0*

The italic type app is the book tracking app I’ve been looking for.

I used to use good reads, then tried a bunch of others, but they all either have crumby design or features I don’t care bout or bad book recommendations.

The Italic type crew on the other hand, are clearly lovers of books and book culture and have managed to build a really special book list tracking and reading notes app. It’s calm tech, doesn’t over push itself to be used, doesn’t ping you with unnecessary notifications, it gets out of the way so you can read! But is a very useful place to manage your queues of books and notes worth saving for each book.

If you’re not totally satisfied with other apps for tracking books, you will be with Italic Type.

### 3/5 — Needs Improvement

*2025-06-14, version 1.1.0*

This is a decent app. I enjoy not seeing ads and appreciate the minimal social aspect. I've imported all of my Goodreads data into the app and as expected, some books did not transfer over. Many books are missing in the database, which isn't a huge deal to me but some suggestions to the developers: + I would like to add tags so I can track books easier when shelved. + There should be an ability to add books myself to my queue that are not yet in the database. + The ability to save notes (or automatically save) in the Book Board when using the mobile app. Several times, I've had to rewrite my notes after leaving the app for extended periods of time to add to my notes before tapping the 'Add' button. + I would also like to see an author's page listing a short bibliography of their work. An 'about the author' page essentially. Italic Type has great potential, and I'm hoping the developers and founders continue to work on developing it further. I'd love to use this in place of Goodreads completely.

### 3/5 — Good premise but glitchy

*2024-11-10, version 1.1.0*

I love this app for tracking books in a clean format that allows me to leave notes for myself to reference later but it is very glitchy. It is hard to search books sometimes because the results can be very random based on the words you type. Also, I am often randomly logged out and reviews sometimes do not save that I’ve written.

### 3/5 — Platform is exactly what I’m looking for.

*2024-05-03, version 1.1.0*

I’ve tried multiple Goodreads alternatives and had luck with Literal until they announced the app is in maintenance mode with no further work being done, and an app with more than a year between updates that feels sluggish. Enter Italic Type. Beautiful UI, core features are all there, and I’m ready to once again make a switch off GR, but the app has some minor UI quirks that just feel strange to me and a lack of dark mode (your desktop site supports this!) doesn’t jive with me in 2024. I expect mediocre, untouched, archaic design with GR, but yall have it 95% in the bag! The second dark mode hits the app, I’m ready to take the plunge as well as all the other folks I know eager to detach from GR/Amazon.

Great work all in all, and hope to see the platform continue to evolve and not regress like Literal.

### 4/5 — Simple and Neat

*2025-01-23, version 1.1.0*

I LOVE this app, but there are a few things I would change.
I really enjoy the simplicity of it, it’s not bloated like some of the others I’ve tried, and you are able to review books with just a few phrases and not answer a million questions about the books like other apps.
That being said, I wish I could see my completed books in a different format, much like how you can see icons on your kindle, instead of one long list with the pictures. I want it to be easy to export my reading list and share to others.
I also wish I could follow my friends and see what they are currently reading. I hate the other apps how it’s too social, but I would want to be able to click on a friend’s name and see their collection or their current read, but not in a social media type feed.
I do highly recommend this app over others.

### 4/5 — Missing Books

*2024-05-04*

Love the app but some books appear to be missing. Would be great to have the option to add books that are missing from search.

### 5/5 — Exactly what I’ve been looking for

*2024-01-27, version 1.0*

I have been looking for an app for years that could keep my reading organized in a way that wasn’t messy with ads and other distractions. I’ve been keeping a reading list in Evernote but that has been less than ideal for many reasons. I’m so excited to make Italic Type my new home and start to leverage more of their thoughtful features, like starting a book club! My wife and I have been talking about this for years, so this is perfect ❤️

### 5/5 — Beautifully Designed For Readers

*2024-01-25, version 1.0*

I’ve been an Italic Type member for years and am so happy there’s an app now! It helps me keep track of what I am currently reading, what I have read, and my TBR list. I love the notes feature for each book where I can write quotes, ideas, impressions, etc as I go. It is so thoughtfully made, I really believe every reader will love and appreciate it.

### 5/5 — Books and community

*2024-01-05, version 1.0*

I love reading but getting myself to do it isn’t easy. I love that I can read with others on this app; and create micro-communities with friends. Plus, it LOOKS GREAT!!!

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2023-12-25, version 1.0*

I really love the Italic Type app to keep track of my books. It’s easy to use, there are no ads, and one huge perk is that it’s a women-owned small business.

### 5/5 — A great app

*2023-12-22, version 1.0*

I love that Italic Type helps me connect to my friends through books! Reading together is such a joy and Italic Type makes it so simple

## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — For actual readers

*2023-12-21, version 1.0*

Where goodreads feels like a marketing tool, italic type is a resource to help me be a more intentional reader. I love everything about it - the interface, the community of real readers, and the reminder that reading is for me and not for social clout.

### 5/5 — An app that enhances your reading life

*2023-12-21, version 1.0*

I love Italic Type and am thrilled about the app! Besides the beautiful and clean design, I love that it enhances your reading life instead of being another app to distract you. No ads. No random content being served to you. It helps you focus on what you want to read, not what everyone else is reading. And it lets you go deeper with your reading by tracking lists and quotes and thoughts all in one place. I can’t say enough great things about how wonderful this app this!

### 5/5 — Been waiting all my life for this

*2023-12-20, version 1.0*

Italic Type is such a massive relief. I gave up on Goodreads many years ago and resorted to tracking my books in a spreadsheet, but now I finally have a calm, well-designed app to rate, review, and discuss books. It’s such a breath of fresh air.

### 5/5 — Just What I Was Looking For!

*2023-12-20, version 1.0*

Italic Type takes the stress out of book tracking. Unlike some other book trackers that resort to time-wasting tricks to encourage reading habits, this is an app designed for readers. It is easy to use and visually pleasing.

### 5/5 — Great app to organize books

*2023-12-20, version 1.0*

I used spreadsheets / notes / etc in the past but this makes it super easy to track (and share) the books I’m reading or want to read. Would highly recommend for avid readers
