Needs Improvement

This is a decent app. I enjoy not seeing ads and appreciate the minimal social aspect. I've imported all of my Goodreads data into the app and as expected, some books did not transfer over. Many books are missing in the database, which isn't a huge deal to me but some suggestions to the developers: + I would like to add tags so I can track books easier when shelved. + There should be an ability to add books myself to my queue that are not yet in the database. + The ability to save notes (or automatically save) in the Book Board when using the mobile app. Several times, I've had to rewrite my notes after leaving the app for extended periods of time to add to my notes before tapping the 'Add' button. + I would also like to see an author's page listing a short bibliography of their work. An 'about the author' page essentially. Italic Type has great potential, and I'm hoping the developers and founders continue to work on developing it further. I'd love to use this in place of Goodreads completely.

Simple and Neat

I LOVE this app, but there are a few things I would change.
I really enjoy the simplicity of it, it’s not bloated like some of the others I’ve tried, and you are able to review books with just a few phrases and not answer a million questions about the books like other apps.
That being said, I wish I could see my completed books in a different format, much like how you can see icons on your kindle, instead of one long list with the pictures. I want it to be easy to export my reading list and share to others.
I also wish I could follow my friends and see what they are currently reading. I hate the other apps how it’s too social, but I would want to be able to click on a friend’s name and see their collection or their current read, but not in a social media type feed.
I do highly recommend this app over others.

Good premise but glitchy

I love this app for tracking books in a clean format that allows me to leave notes for myself to reference later but it is very glitchy. It is hard to search books sometimes because the results can be very random based on the words you type. Also, I am often randomly logged out and reviews sometimes do not save that I’ve written.

Missing Books

Love the app but some books appear to be missing. Would be great to have the option to add books that are missing from search.

Platform is exactly what I’m looking for.

I’ve tried multiple Goodreads alternatives and had luck with Literal until they announced the app is in maintenance mode with no further work being done, and an app with more than a year between updates that feels sluggish. Enter Italic Type. Beautiful UI, core features are all there, and I’m ready to once again make a switch off GR, but the app has some minor UI quirks that just feel strange to me and a lack of dark mode (your desktop site supports this!) doesn’t jive with me in 2024. I expect mediocre, untouched, archaic design with GR, but yall have it 95% in the bag! The second dark mode hits the app, I’m ready to take the plunge as well as all the other folks I know eager to detach from GR/Amazon.

Great work all in all, and hope to see the platform continue to evolve and not regress like Literal.
