Great that you can write your own word and use your own pictures, but frustratingly you can’t have your child practice just your words, instead you just get a random mix. Having said that our little one loves it, and the progress he’s made has been fantastic to watch ### 4/5 — Good app *2020-03-04* Really love the options, gentle music, history and extras. Please connect cursive letters at least in the premodern words. The letter name and sound after each writing would be a good bonus option. ### 4/5 — How do I access Parent Zone? *2019-04-26* Type in the number but there is no way to submit answer??? I'm assuming the pop up keyboard is obscuring the enter button. Other than that this is great. I'll revise to 5 stars once this bug is resolved. **Developer response:** Hello! If you are using iPhone, there is no button to submit — correct answer will be submitted automatically, as soon as you enter it. On iPad there is a "return" button on keyboard. The only free, comprehensive apps I've seen that doesn't force my left-handers to write like right-handers. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Derogatory word for kids to trace?! *2020-07-05, version 2.5.1* I was surprised and disappointed to see that one of the tracing words for the Arctic theme is “eskimo” which is a derogatory term for the Inuit. It looks good but without the sound it’s not that good ### 2/5 — Please update *2015-10-15, version 2.2* Please update so the math problem on parental controls is visible! I can't see the numbers on my iPad. Also, the directionality of the "b" in the D'Nealean font is incorrect. It should go straight down & around from the bottom, not back up & around. I really love this app, but my son gets really frustrated when writing correctly but is unable to in the app. Please fix so we can love this app again. ### 2/5 — Loved it but lost sound *2014-07-15, version 2.0.2* My now four and five year old boys love this. We have taken pictures of all our words and the boys love seeing their world show up on the screen. Love the left handed option. We lost all sound effects last week. I have tried all the setting options on the ipad and within the app. Other apps are still producing sounds. Bummed bc now the names of the letters and numbers can't be heard. PLEASE fix!! This was our fav educational app and it would receive five stars if we could hear it. ### 3/5 — It’s ok *2026-01-03* It’s sooooo. Boring and expisive and the same then the other free version ### 3/5 — Annoying little issues *2021-09-17* This game is a great concept and my little ones enjoy it, but there are small design details that make it frustrating at times (1) There is a giant back button in the top left corner, which when accidentally touched which takes you back to the menu and all progress on a word is lost. This frustrates the kids a lot. A simple pop up that says ‘Are you sure you want to quit?’ when a word is half completed would solve this problem (2) The game can be quite strict. My 3 year old is just learning letters and it fails the letter when he goes outside the lines or takes his finger off the screen for just a second. Seems a little harsh. Perhaps some settings that allow the game to be a bit more forgiving for early learners would be good. **Developer response:** Hello, and thank you for your suggestions! The game becomes more strict as you play, so at some point it may be tough for a 3 years old. To prevent that, go to Parents Zone -> Options, and turn "Disable letter shrinking" on. This will keep all letters on level 1, which is the easiest. If it's still too hard, may be it's good to give it a few months and try again. As for the back button — I've never seen kids experiencing this issue, but we will sure consider adding a confirmation screen, thank you for your suggestion! ### 3/5 — Where are the worksheets? *2020-03-21* I have this app on my son's iPad and when I put it on my phone to use the worksheet options disappeared. **Developer response:** Hello! Worksheets are only available in iPad app, sorry for the inconvinience. ### 3/5 — Update PLEASE! *2015-10-06, version 2.2* I like this app. I use it in my Kindergarten classroom, but I have one big problem with it now. Since I updated my iPads to ios 9.0.1 I can't see the multiplication problem that I need to answer to get into the 'Parental Controls'. The update made the keyboard bigger and now all I can see is the top of the numbers, leaving me to guess what the problem is. We were so happy to find this app, as she took to it right away! They did an update and it changed the letters to become too small for her fine motor skills. She no longer wanted to use it and no other apps seemed too overstimulating and distracting. I reached out through email, not expecting a response or resolution. I was emailed soon after and they did another update to make the letters larger again! I was blown away with the customer service. They are a small team who actually care! So grateful and happy :) ### 5/5 — This is wonderful! *2024-07-23* Thank you so much for making this app. This app functions perfectly for practicing handwriting. I love that it requires your child to write the letter properly & keeps a record of mistakes. We really appreciate that the app doesn’t collect any data & that there are no ads. Being able to add your own words & pictures to practice was totally unexpected but is fantastic. We think it is fabulous and engaging and SO good at helping without being frustrating. It’s also not overly game-y and it forces the kids to repeat the letters, which I love. I also love that it keeps a record that I can go to see where they were messing up.
