If I’m actually paying for an app, then I expect it to have good documentation. All their site has some bare minimum FAQs. There are certain things in the app that I just don’t understand and wonder what they do, but there’s no place to look it up. I definitely won’t be renewing my subscription. I might even switch back to Ice Cubes in the meantime. They say you can write them and ask for help but like that takes time. Why can’t they just have a website so I can look it up if I have a question. Do they really want to be bombarded with emails and go back-and-forth with customer support forever? ### 4/5 — Very good; point off for lack of Markdown *2026-07-03, version 2.5.2* Lovely experience, but I have to jump into a rival app to check my Markdown's displaying correctly. Still use this, though. ### 2/5 — Good enough *2026-05-28* The app is good looking and work mostly fine. But is common to open it and the feeed doesn’t update and the pull feature also doesn’t work. It looks like it doesn’t trigger the update. So often I need to use other and free apps to have access to the data. ### 4/5 — Very beautiful app missing key (for me) features *2026-04-30, version 2.5.2* Gorgeous interface, robust settings. I just cannot live without threaded conversation view; I cannot follow conversations properly without it. The other feature I missed from a different app I’ve used was a dedicated tab for private messages (a kind of inbox). I like being able to view those separately from other mentions. These two things are very important to me so I ended up going back to my old app, despite the fact it’s a bit glitchy with the timeline fetch right now. ### 3/5 — Feed refreshes while scrolling. *2026-04-21, version 2.5.1* The Achilles heel of this app is how the feed will refresh while in the middle of scrolling. More often than not I’ll be scrolling, reading a post or about to click on a post and the feed will auto refresh and jump to the beginning rendering the post I was interested in lost to the ether. It’s by far the most frustrating aspect of this app and it impacts the user experience in a very negative way. If this were fixed it would be a much better app. ### 3/5 — It’s Alright *2026-01-23, version 2.4.1* Decent Mastodon app, but recently updated it to remove a user setting around boosting posts and seems to be refusing to respect user preference around it, instead citing a desire to remain consistent with the Mastodon app. That’s really disappointing because it’s breaking the usability for power users, and I would rather just use the Mastodon app itself if Ivory isn’t going to provide a significant benefit over traditional experience. ### 2/5 — Gave up *2026-01-14, version 2.4.1* The app is good and polished and a great option for most folks. However, I’m a musician, and I follow other musicians. Musicians sometimes attach audio clips to posts, which is a standard Mastodon feature. Ivory, in the years it’s been available, has never prioritized this feature. I switched apps in 2025, and there are other good options out there that support all of Mastodon’s features. So, sadly, this one just isn’t for me because the devs haven’t made customers like me a priority. ### 3/5 — Works Fine. Missing Features. Maybe abandoned *2025-12-30, version 2.3.6* It was way better than the default Mastodon app early on. It’s missing more useful features like muting threads, or even just not showing entire threads split out on the timeline. No updates for 7 months after regular patches. ### 4/5 — Simply The Best *2025-12-25, version 2.3.6* this is the best social media client ever devised on any platform ever and they don’t say that lately. That really isn’t acceptable for a paid app that is far from perfect. I suggest switching to the free Mastodon app which receives regular and useful updates. ### 3/5 — Bonne appli mais… *2025-12-13* Alors qu’Ivory était un choix évident il y a quelques années, l’appli ne progresse pas beaucoup. Il y a des bugs non résolus et Ivory ne supporte toujours pas le quote reply. I cannot search on any of my accounts even by # while I can search on other applications that are linked to mastodon. In addition, Federated no longer works on any of my accounts. While Federated can be overwhelming, at times, I would still like the access in an app that I’m paying for to be able to view Federated. Being able to view Federated And even more importantly, being able to search (even if it were limited to the same instance are important). Thank you. ### 5/5 — Best. Mastodon. Client. *2025-11-18, version 2.3.5* If you enjoyed using Tweetbot, then you’ll enjoy using Ivory even more. I’ve tried many Mastodon clients since joining in November 2022, and this is by far my favorite. Yes, I’m biased because I was a longtime Tweebot user and Ivory feels like home. The app is good in its own right. The interface is nice looking and easy to use. There aren’t an over abundance of options to overwhelm you. It’s well worth the money if you frequently use Mastodon. ### 4/5 — Give me a proper space bar! *2025-11-05, version 2.3.6* Would have been 5 stars, but PLEASE remove @ and # from places where the spacebar should still be on iPad version or at least give us an option to turn them off. I'm a rubbish typist and I'm getting very fed up with having to remove lots of @ signs that should have been spaces before posting anything. It's not that difficult anyway to find @ and # and a different solution works on an iPhone screen. ### 3/5 — Has Ivory been abandoned? *2025-10-22, version 2.3.6* This app used to be the benchmark app for accessing Mastodon. Now it feels buggy and more frustrating to use. Timelines bounce around unpredictably and I’m constantly clearing the cache just to get the app usable. I’ve cancelled my subscription and switched to IceCubes which is much less frustrating to use. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Deceptive *2026-07-24, version 2.5.2* It is not free and one of the quotes on the website said: ”If you use Mastodon on a Mac, you’re nuts if you don’t try Ivory.“ This is very deceptive and just a way to earn money out of your users. I would be fine if it was a one-time payment, but get off the App Store. You’re nothing but a nuisance to free users. ### 1/5 — Great example of why subscriptions aren’t always better for consumers *2026-02-27, version 2.4.1* What do they expect, for us to just keep paying for the subscription while not getting any substantial updates. They’ve made so much money off of this app now for not putting much work into it. If I had this level of output at my job, I would be fired. My boss wouldn’t just be like oh yeah that’s fine. Fast forward to now I decided to give it another try. I even subscribed for a full year and it still crashes every time I use my keyboard to type something in. Currently having an issue with notification badges and have emailed the developers a few times. Never get a response. I have used many of their products for in the past and currently. I was very excited to see that they make a Mastodon product. That excitement quickly turned into disappointment. I don’t want to pay a reoccurring subscription for an app like this. Either give me the option to buy it outright or just forget about it. Especially when you have multiple options available that are 100% free and just as good. ### 1/5 — Worse than Mona *2024-10-06, version 2.2.3* I recently tried Ivory again after trying it last year. Unfortunately, it's still quite primitive, especially compared to Mona. I canceled my subscription trial after an hour. It appears that Tapbots doesn't care about the Mac anymore, which is truly sad, because Tweetbot for Mac was a good app. Instead we get a crappy iPad port on Mac, with all of the bugs and limitations of Catalyst. Mona is Catalyst too, but Mona is a lot more configurable, and at least it isn't a rental (subscription).
