My main gripe is that occasionally nothing will load due to a “sever error”. Said errors happen frequently enough to be annoying. My other problem is the playlist feature. The “next up” feature is blatantly broken. I would love to see the “playlist” feature get a overhaul. If all these issues could be resolved I would consider this a 5 star app. ### 3/5 — Almost great… *2021-12-01, version 1.10* Background play works great but playlists are pretty much broken. Anytime I try playing a video in a playlist the next video is stuck on only one video out of the entire playlist. So it doesn’t cycle through the videos, it’s only able to play the second video on its own. Please fix! ### 3/5 — Immediately gives an error about API keys, won't play videos. *2020-03-06, version 1.1.4* This app immediately gives an error when you open it or "it seems Youtube API quota limit has exceeded" along with "retry" and "how to fix this error". The tutorial for fixing the error seems reasonably thorough, but requires signing into your google account, and creating a "project" as if you were an app developer integrating YouTube into your app, rather than a customer using someone else's. This app does not explain if the API error and workaround is a temporary state, or if the app will be entirely nonfunctional until I configure it. If it is a permanent and essential workaround that's needed, the app should really give a much better onboarding experience than to present you with an error message immediately. For a paid app it should really warn you before downloading that you need a google account, and to set up your own api key before use. I will probably update this review if/when the problem is solved or I get around to setting up the API key, and can actually experience the app as intended. ### 4/5 — Good overall *2019-12-19, version 1.1.2* Pretty nice app with good feature set including ability to play videos in the background. Feature request: Add a YouTube link handler so that YouTube links can be directly opened by Ivory instead of YouTube. ### 3/5 — Please update *2019-05-27, version 1.0.24* The videos won’t play it tells me to use a google app. Please update your app to work. ### 1/5 — Consistently inconsistent *2019-04-05, version 1.0.24* This app was great when I got it. I’m guessing somewhere along the line the updates messed everything up. I’m being serious when I tell you you can try for close to 20 minutes to load any video and this app will crash multiple times, return you to the explore menu, or just flat out freeze forcing you to exit and try again for another 20 minutes. This is beyond frustrating especially when you have to pay for this app and it’s performing more poorly than other YouTube apps. This app has background play which is its saving grace and it doesn’t cost $16 a month like YouTube Red (seriously, $16 for background play). But if that feature can’t even load because no video will load, there’s no point in paying for this app. Please fix this, I am sitting here still waiting for one video to load and I’ve been sent back to the “explore” menu 4 times now. ### 4/5 — Needs just one feature to make it perfect *2018-12-06, version 1.0.23* This would easily be the best YouTube app if it just had a page where you can see videos from all the channels you've subscribed to, not just each channel individually. ### 2/5 — Barely works *2018-10-13, version 1.0.22* When this app loads a video, all is well - nice UI, good features, etc. I’ve found that it very often will not play videos and there’s no discernible pattern or process that causes the fault. Unpredictability like this makes the app unusable. ### 1/5 — 1080p won’t play *2018-09-22, version 1.0.22* Just loads and loads and never works. ### 4/5 — The best YouTube app on the App Store despite some bugs. *2018-09-18, version 1.0.22* I’m not sure if there is a way to contact the developer in-app, but I couldn’t find one. I’m leaving this review both to recommend the app and to try and get in touch with the developer about a frustrating bug. Now, regarding the bug. When playing a long video in the background or when the device is locked, after I return to the app only the audio is present and the video is just a black screen. Sometimes this is remedied by switching out of the app and then switching back into it, but this doesn’t always work. The only fix that always works is to close the video (which there seems to be no quick way to do by the way) and reopen it. I first observed this bug a few weeks ago when I started using Ivory more often, and it is still present after the 1.0.22 update. ### 2/5 — So close! I’ve donated multiple times towards the development of this once awesome app. ### 1/5 — Share Sheet Doesn’t Work *2023-03-09* Playing a video from the share sheet starts the video, but using the shared sheet again on a second video only replays the first. It doesn’t start the second as it should. ### 1/5 — Some Server Error Ocurred *2021-11-21, version 1.10* Can no longer share to Ivory. It opens Ivory, and then opens Safari. Developers response below Hello! Unfortunately Youtube limited quota to minimum for the app, they don't like that you watch it without ads. You have two options: 1) Ask apple for refund Ivory and use native youtube app with showing ads each 5 minute, or pay them each month for Youtube premium. or 2) Tap on big green button at the center of the screen with caption 'How to fix this error', that would help you to fix this error. Create your own API key (with your own youtube quota limit that you won't share with other people) and put it in the settings screen. ### 1/5 — Only 720p?! *2020-01-31, version 1.1.3* The maximum resolution you can watch videos at is only 720p! It’s a good app and works in the background while doing other tasks. Since protube was taken off the App Store I’ve been pretty upset and was looking for alternative methods to listen to videos in the background without ads.
