And overall it seems pretty good - i.e. no distracting frills and works well as an editor. The only problem I've encountered is it seems to cache the text from the currently open file. So if I upload to my laptop, edit, then copy back, when I open iWriter Pro it shows the old text until I open the file. I therefore worry that if I close the app without noticing it'll autosave the file back to an old version. If that was fixed, just by reloading on app start, it'd be a 4* app in my view. ### 3/5 — Soweit okay *2025-03-02* Die App macht einen guten Eindruck, aber in den Standardfunktionen neben Fett, Kursiv, Listen, Code, Aufgabe/To-do-Liste usw. fehlt die Tabelle - Meiner meine eine Basis im Markdown. Es ist auch nicht möglich die Kurzbefehle selber anzuordnen. Meiner Meinung sollte dies in einer „Pro“ Version schon enthalten sein, schließlich ist eine Pro-Version für den Poweruser ausgelegt und sollte den Nutzer entlasten. ### 5/5 — Mermaid plugin does not work with iOS 18 *2024-09-23* Mermaid plugin does not work with iOS 18 ### 5/5 — Had a hard time finding features *2024-09-03* I was initially so upset about it not having word count as advertised that I was going to get a refund, but apparently if you enable the “autocorrect” option it shows if you tap an icon over your keyboard. I don’t know why that option is called “autocorrect,” since it doesn’t do what autocorrect does (edit your text without your approval if it thinks you made a typo) but is more like an edit bar with more advanced options. It’s usable now, but I wish the word count could be set to always visible instead of having to press a button for it each time, and having other distracting stats always there with it. Support was fast and responsive though! And it’s probably the best affordable writing app on the app store, which says more about the other apps than it does about this one, but if you’re looking for a decent app you can write in for a reasonable price, this is probably it. ### 3/5 — A little too simple *2024-05-25* It’s called pro but doesn’t any anyway to add side notes and there’s not even a word count. I just assumed there would be a word count before I paid for it. That’s a must for me so I can count how many words I do each day. Also on the preview video the edit features pop up on the bottom but I have no idea how to bring that up. Сто раз подумайте прежде чем покупать. ### 5/5 — 10 out of 10 - MASTERPIECE!! *2023-06-25* After searching the App Store and testing dozens of apps, I’m happy to say I finally found the app I’ve been looking for. This app is basically perfect, as if I designed it myself. 1Writer is close, and in second place, but iWriter Pro is even better! I’m not a fan of Rich Text because I’m a Web Developer and understand the power of Plain Text. I have been taking notes with Simplenote for over a decade, along with Notational Velocity on my Mac (Which is abandoned) and then nvALT (Which is also abandoned). Simplenote was the king for a very long time. The problem is it isn’t being actively developed anymore and I have noticed some bugs over the past few years. Insert: iWriter Pro, The Archive (Mac), and Dropbox. This is the only perfect solution I have ever found for the way my mind works!! 1. I have all of my .md notes (483 separate files to be exact) stored in a free Dropbox account which syncs my files. 2. On my iPhone, I use iWriter Pro to view and edit them (I used to use 1Writer which worked very well, but I made the switch bc iWriter Pro is simply superior). 3. On my Mac, I use an app called “The Archive” which is made by Zettelkasten (I am not affiliated with them or any of the products I’m writing about). Between iWriter Pro, The Archive, and Dropbox for storage/sync; my Simplenote replacement research is complete!! Btw… a $6 one time fee (For iWriter Pro) is what most of the competition charges per month. They are typically “Rich Text” note taking apps with far too much bloat. If you want free and great, use Simplenote. If you want something slightly better and more powerful - use this app along with the others I mentioned. To the dev team: Thank you!! This app is stellar and doesn’t need anything more than what it currently has - aside from one feature: If you look at 1Writer, you can go into the settings and select a folder as a directory. If your app had this feature, it would be flawless. Of course, keeping it actively developed and updated is my only other recommendation. I’m so happy I gave this app a chance! I couldn’t have done it better myself, so thanks again! ### 5/5 — Meet my needs very well *2022-12-23, version 4.9.6* I use it every day to compose diary, entries, and emails. Satisfying to use. ### 3/5 — Problems with conversion to docx *2022-10-19* Since I only use the app for notes, the problem is not so serious for me. However, it is disappointing that the Pro version of the app advertises the conversion to docx, but this document can only be opened with restrictions in Office 2019 and not at all in O365. I would urgently recommend a fix for this, as the functionality of the Pro variant as a simple note tool for quick and easy generation of work versions suffers greatly. **Developer response:** Hello. Converting Markdown to DOCX is a complicated procedure. Even more, each editor handles DOCX format differently. Preview barely works. App is not being updated to fix bugs and developer does not respond. Avoid this app at all costs. ### 1/5 — LaTeX Multiline isn’t supported *2024-12-04* Multiline LaTeX isn’t supported in a $$ Block. Neither \\ nor \newline works. Also \begin{align} doesn’t work. Very poor implementation of LaTeX. **Developer response:** Hello! We have not encountered any issues with the LaTeX source highlighting in the Editor or the math rendering in the Preview. Einfach NUR zum Schreiben von Gedanken, Gedichten, Geschichten, … Es ist ein ganz anderer Ansatz wie Word, bei dem man ständig irgendetwas sucht, formartiert, in Menüs etwas unter Tausenden Dingen rauskramt und das Nebensächliche, das dann das Wichtige, nämlich das Schreiben, blockiert. Besonders für Apple Geräte wie iPad und Mac Book ist das Programm perfekt. Wobei man es auch für Windows nutzen kann, so dass egal von man arbeitet, über die Cloud, immer ein paar Dinge ergänzen oder korrigieren kann (bis der Chef kommt :-) ). This does not sit well with iPad Word, so this great interim solution will take the text then export to Docx files all perfectly formatted.
