I praise the colour schemes but syncing with Dropbox fails on me, which is a bummer. Maybe a bug I hope dev notices this ### 3/5 — Why *2021-10-26, version 5.2* I can’t use this software to open any documents on my iPad. Why? ### 4/5 — Pretty good *2021-05-12* Not too bad overall. It is a minimalistic editor, not only in the interface, but in most other aspects. For instance I hadn’t realized when I paid for it that it could not make any text bold, italic, underlined, etc. To me that’s pretty basic for a text app. And yes, you can change the font or the size, but only of the entire file. These 2 things alone will keep me from using it very much at all. I saw, on some of the examples above, that it the app shows word AND character count but I cannot find the character count and I cannot find any settings. I need the character count and it was my favorite thing about the original program. **Developer response:** Hello. You can tap on a counter to change its appearance. You cannot go wrong here! ### 4/5 — Great. My go-to app! (One feature missing) *2018-06-12* 3 months ago this app unusable, but I kept it because I hoped it would eventually get fixed. I had hopes that it would become my go-to writing app. The bugs have been squashed and it works wonderfully. Simple, sleek, and almost painless. My one gripe is one of convenience. I rely heavily on dropbox or box cloud storage, and unfortunately it is a major hang up having to pause and save and save and re-save instead of simply syncing from the external file. Maybe this isn't even up to the iwriter team, but an obstacle from the external storage provider. That aside, great app. Highly recommended **Developer response:** iWriter 3.6 is live. But, even the best things can use some improvements. If you could think of adding in the future a "bold, italicize, underline" option and a picture for the cover of your documents. If you guys would be so kind as to add the following features, this app would be perfect. 1) Search function is a must for people who use these apps a lot for several ideas. 2) The ability to swipe left from the documents list to access the last viewed document. 3) The ability to manually rearrange the documents within the list of documents on my device. 4) The option of moving a document from one directory to another, instead of having to copy and paste it, go back, and delete the original. Latest update unfortunately introduced a few bugs for me: deleting local documents does not get rid of them, only wipes the text from the document. Also, I've had a few instances of documents wiping themselves out of nowhere! Not cool. Hope these get fixed soon! ### 2/5 — No Dropbox sync *2013-11-05* Writing in the app is good and clear. However, I mistakenly purchased the app expecting it to have full Dropbox integration which is not the case. In order to keep your documents in order you have to import and then export back to Dropbox which is nuisance. The support was quick to respond to my reclamation though so it doesn't deserve a mere 1-star rating. ### 2/5 — I wish it had real Dropbox syncing... *2013-09-29* You can download files from Dropbox and copy files to Dropbox, but there's no automatic Dropbox syncing. If I knew that, I wouldn't have bought this app. I like the ability to edit the same text files from my iPhone and PC, so the iCloud syncing is useless to me. It's too bad, I really wanted to like this app because this app is gorgeous. ### 2/5 — Very slow *2013-07-30* After editing for a few minutes the editor becomes extremely slow. You can't type, you can't move the cursor, your hand starts cramping, you start tapping the screen harder, now and then stuff happens, probably queued event from the frantic poking, sliding, double tapping, pressing every single button on the keyboard. I turned of auto sync, but it had no effect. Perhaps it's sad and on strike because I am using the largest font, am in night mode and disabled the real estate hogging markup toolbar. All I want is a decent text editor that allows me to change font face and font size and can format HTML from markdown. ### 2/5 — Great app. Bring back Dropbox *2012-12-30, version 2.0* Absolutely my favorite note taking app... Until Dropbox sync was removed. ### 2/5 — Very Nice, Except.... *2012-11-27* The latest update (November 2012) has dropped full Dropbox synching. A curious omission that feels like a step backward. Now you have to copy a file and then later, upload it again. This is precisely the same clunky method one uses in Pages. If iWriter had added iCloud support, it may not be such a big deal. But there is no reason given (technical?) and it pulls the experience down. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — More themes please! *2024-01-04, version 5.2* Since replacing my IPad I am using the app more and loving it. Particularly the terminal green feature. Would love it even more if the app had more nostalgic themes from the 80’s. To give some examples the orange letters with black background (as seen in jumping Jack flash) or the white letters with blue background (as seen in Doogie Howser, M.D.). It recognizes my terrible handwriting easily and allows for deletions and insertions without trouble. This app is so much better than GoodNotes 5 which is little more than a primitive note pad which can only convert written-to-text with fiendish difficulty and then only in a stupid “text box”.
