I use an app tracker to alert me when the price changes or the app is update. I was shocked when I saw this get updated after so many years. I can confirm this works great on iOS 10. Very bare bones writing app with letters and numbers, but it is great for my son who is struggling with his dexterity. He uses a stylus to practice his handwriting. Some updates to the graphics or different learning modes would be appreciated. ### 4/5 — Great sounds *2013-10-11, version 3.2* Really interesting keeps the kids playing. My kid likes it very much but I think the pictures are not attractive at all, compared to pictures on other kid's apps. Please change the pictures to more colourful, realistic and fun resemblances of the objects and animals they are supposed to be. Why do the letters of the words drop into haphazard angles and random positions, and not their upright and correct positions always? What is the lesson? Won't it help to teach the kids how to spell, if they dropped in their upright and correct order of spelling these word? At least, the letters should drop in upright positions, even if in random order, so that to further aid in spelling, the letters can be sent to the rotating wheel (and gotten rid of) ONLY in the correct order of spelling the word. I'd love to see the option of creating your own words to write so he can write his name! I just wish I could start session at a chosen letter instead of 'Aa' so I could have them take turns. Like this they never get to the second half of the alphabet as I am very limited on time. I think this is a very smart and fun way to learn how to write letters and numbers and do so in the correct direction. The interface visually shows the user how to write the letter. It guides the user throughout with the traditionally correct *order* of the strokes as well as the stroke *direction*. Perhaps it's my Japanese side that makes me a stickler when it comes to handwriting. IMHO, I think there IS a proper way to hand write letters! : ) In addition to its inherent charm (the illustrated words are just sublime--I am guessing the app designer found a precociously artistic child to create to drawings), the child narration is very sweet without being cloyingly so and the cheer is a lovely, rather musical touch. The sound effects are lively and fun (I find I do ask my children to turn it down though when the percussion seems too loud) and...and-And-AND: my two children (a boy and a girl) genuinely enjoyed playing it. Now that they are in the elementary grades, it seems to have run it's course. It was a delight when they were 3 and 4--and 5 too. I highly recommend it for these ages. Also, I have to say, in the app world, I don't see a lot if soul out there. This app has some soul to it...in terms of the depth and quality of the artwork and the ingenuity and hard work that went into creating it. A cheer to the people who made this! It teaches you to write letters the wrong way by making a crab follow numbers. It's bizarre. And the child needs to be able to read to work out what to do. I'd like a refund! ### 1/5 — Does not work with iOS 6 *2012-09-30, version 3.0.3* The apps is great with iOS 5. If you have IOS 6, do mot buy this until they fix the bugs. I have the IPad 2 and running iOS 5, and it work fine, until I update to iOS 6, my child and I are very un happy with it now. iWriteWords if your reading this please update the apps. ### 1/5 — Nicely done but unsuitable for my kids *2009-06-28, version 0* Works as stated and great interface but using this with my children, or I suspect most children, would only serve to confuse and slow down the development of their writing skills. Why? The way the letters are formed. For instance, who writes a w by drawing 4 separate lines all starting at the top? I would also like to a choice of accent but unless the letter formation is improved this will remain unusable for me. ### 2/5 — Some things arnt great. *2012-11-02, version 3.1* You guys need to remove those stupid falling boxes and the portal. While it is a cute program with great features, I am highly disappointed that it is made for RIGHTHANDED children only!! All of my kids are left handed and the crab forces them to do strokes opposite to the stroke marks left handed people make when forming letters. I'm so disappointed that I wasted my money on a program that doesn't take that into account when trying to provide a valuable first writing experience for young children. I will think twice before buying another app from this provider. ### 3/5 — Good BUT .... *2013-03-08, version 3.1* My two year old Grandson absolutely loves this and it has taught him to write letters and numbers with ease. However, he's now learning phonics and this urgently needs an English accent for the UK as well as phonics to make it a really useful tool for small children. You can't synthesise "see - ay - tee" into CAT. It's a good tool which, with a few tweaks, could be great. Please sort it! Great idea for learning. I wish it had ability to create the iwrite features for words entered by the user. That would be awesome for working with writing their name or letters they struggle with. At least it should have ability to go to any letter you want. That would be much better. However, app also has a bug and freezes almost every time it is used. A couple of suggestions for massively enhancing it for smaller kids:) 1. Can you put in something that let's them learn about joining the numbers simply with lines (or even simple shapes) to get the initial "hang" of the game? 2. There is a lot of unused screen space and littlies don't have such good coordination. Is it possible to make the letters bigger? I am sure she will get lots of fun and learning from this!
