### 4/5 — Glad to see the update

*2017-06-01*

I have been waiting to buy this for 5 years. I use an app tracker to alert me when the price changes or the app is update. I was shocked when I saw this get updated after so many years. I can confirm this works great on iOS 10. Very bare bones writing app with letters and numbers, but it is great for my son who is struggling with his dexterity. He uses a stylus to practice his handwriting. Some updates to the graphics or different learning modes would be appreciated.

### 4/5 — Great sounds

*2013-10-11, version 3.2*

Really interesting keeps the kids playing. Great if just learning to form letters.

### 4/5 — Good, but more realistic and fun pictures please!

*2013-05-20, version 3.1*

This app is very good. My kid likes it very much but I think the pictures are not attractive at all, compared to pictures on other kid's apps. Please change the pictures to more colourful, realistic and fun resemblances of the objects and animals they are supposed to be.

Why do the letters of the words drop into haphazard angles and random positions, and not their upright and correct positions always? What is the lesson? Won't it help to teach the kids how to spell, if they dropped in their upright and correct order of spelling these word?

At least, the letters should drop in upright positions, even if in random order, so that to further aid in spelling, the letters can be sent to the rotating wheel (and gotten rid of) ONLY in the correct order of spelling the word.

Thanks for your audience.

### 4/5 — Add your own word option.

*2013-01-07, version 3.1*

Almost 3 year old loves this game and the falling blocks. Like others I would love to see the option of having the child write his/her name.

### 4/5 — Good app but lacks a phonics option

*2012-12-31, version 3.1*

Good app and my daughter (3) loves playing it but would be much better for her learning if there was a phonics option. Please update!!!

### 4/5 — Needs a little more.

*2012-12-28, version 3.1*

My three year old loves this app! I bought him a stylus and he just goes to town. I'd love to see the option of creating your own words to write so he can write his name! Another little thing that would be neat would be having the letter sounds.

### 4/5 — Great app buy let us choose letter

*2012-12-10, version 3.1*

My kindergarten ESL kids are responding very well to this app. Their letter-sound awareness is improving. I just wish I could start session at a chosen letter instead of 'Aa' so I could have them take turns. Like this they never get to the second half of the alphabet as I am very limited on time. Great app though!

### 4/5 — 4+

*2012-11-25, version 3.1*

Download the trial and fell in love with it immediately. The falling boxes and the portal kept my child's interest.

### 4/5 — additional practice

*2012-11-05, version 3.1*

an additional application that i would really like to have would be that a parent or teacher could add in the student's name into the tasks so that he or she will make the letters in his name the proper way. I am working with a student that knows how to write his name, but makes the letters incorrectly.

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2012-09-16, version 3.0.3*

My 3 year old and I love it! One of our favorite learning apps.

### 4/5 — Fun Stuff

*2012-08-31, version 3.0.3*

Overall a fun app. I wish they had an option to hear the phonetic sound of the letter rather than only the letter name.

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2012-08-05, version 3.0.3*

This one was great for when the kids were first learning about letters and numbers. An excellent resource

### 4/5 — Great app

*2012-08-05, version 3.0.3*

Fantastic app to develop letter formation, would love the option for letter sounds rather than letter names to develop phonological awareness.

### 5/5 — Such a good app for writing the alphabet

*2012-07-19*

Why so few reviews? I think this is a very smart and fun way to learn how to write letters and numbers and do so in the correct direction. The interface visually shows the user how to write the letter. It guides the user throughout with the traditionally correct *order* of the strokes as well as the stroke *direction*. Perhaps it's my Japanese side that makes me a stickler when it comes to handwriting. IMHO, I think there IS a proper way to hand write letters! : )
In addition to its inherent charm (the illustrated words are just sublime--I am guessing the app designer found a precociously artistic child to create to drawings), the child narration is very sweet without being cloyingly so and the cheer is a lovely, rather musical touch. The sound effects are lively and fun (I find I do ask my children to turn it down though when the percussion seems too loud) and...and-And-AND: my two children (a boy and a girl) genuinely enjoyed playing it. Now that they are in the elementary grades, it seems to have run it's course. It was a delight when they were 3 and 4--and 5 too. I highly recommend it for these ages.
Also, I have to say, in the app world, I don't see a lot if soul out there. This app has some soul to it...in terms of the depth and quality of the artwork and the ingenuity and hard work that went into creating it. A cheer to the people who made this! Hurrah!

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2012-07-08, version 3.0.3*

My 2 year old loves this app and can write ALL the letters and numbers and I can her name on paper and she will trace over it only had this app for 2 weeks definitely worth it

### 5/5 — Love it

*2012-06-09, version 3.0.3*

My almost 3 year old loves this game.
As a parent, I love it too.
She has fun playing all while learning.
That's a fine line to walk an this app does it easily.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — This is rubbish - don't buy it

*2012-10-10, version 3.0.3*

If your child is just learning to write, don't buy this; it will just confuse them. It teaches you to write letters the wrong way by making a crab follow numbers. It's bizarre. And the child needs to be able to read to work out what to do. I'd like a refund!

### 1/5 — Does not work with iOS 6

*2012-09-30, version 3.0.3*

The apps is great with iOS 5.
If you have IOS 6, do mot buy this until they fix the bugs. I have the IPad 2 and running iOS 5, and it work fine, until I update to iOS 6, my child and I are very un happy with it now.
iWriteWords if your reading this please update the apps.

### 1/5 — Nicely done but unsuitable for my kids

*2009-06-28, version 0*

Works as stated and great interface but using this with my children, or I suspect most children, would only serve to confuse and slow down the development of their writing skills. Why? The way the letters are formed. For instance, who writes a w by drawing 4 separate lines all starting at the top? I would also like to a choice of accent but unless the letter formation is improved this will remain unusable for me.

### 2/5 — Some things arnt great.

*2012-11-02, version 3.1*

You guys need to remove those stupid falling boxes and the portal. It's just plain confusing to younger kids who finish a word and are ready to move on.

### 2/5 — M

*2012-03-29, version 3.0.2*

I just installed this app to help my 5&3yr olds practice writing. While it is a cute program with great features, I am highly disappointed that it is made for RIGHTHANDED children only!! All of my kids are left handed and the crab forces them to do strokes opposite to the stroke marks left handed people make when forming letters. I'm so disappointed that I wasted my money on a program that doesn't take that into account when trying to provide a valuable first writing experience for young children. I will think twice before buying another app from this provider.

### 3/5 — Good BUT ....

*2013-03-08, version 3.1*

My two year old Grandson absolutely loves this and it has taught him to write letters and numbers with ease. However, he's now learning phonics and this urgently needs an English accent for the UK as well as phonics to make it a really useful tool for small children. You can't synthesise "see - ay - tee" into CAT. It's a good tool which, with a few tweaks, could be great. Please sort it! Thank you.

### 3/5 — Could be better

*2012-01-15, version 3.0.2*

This is a great app for early preschoolers. My son is 3 1/2 years old and he loves this app and it is soon easy for him. Great idea for learning. I wish it had ability to create the iwrite features for words entered by the user. That would be awesome for working with writing their name or letters they struggle with. At least it should have ability to go to any letter you want. That would be much better. As it is, kids can get a bit bored fast.

### 3/5 — アルファベット順なので後半の文字までたどり着くには時間がかかる

*2010-07-06, version 0*

### 3/5 — Good app, but freezes

*2010-04-25, version 0*

Kids love app and are learning letters and numbers. However, app also has a bug and freezes almost every time it is used. Would not recommend until this has been fixed.

### 3/5 — Great start

*2009-08-09, version 0*

I just bought this for my 3 year old and she is very keen to play it. A couple of suggestions for massively enhancing it for smaller kids:)
1. Can you put in something that let's them learn about joining the numbers simply with lines (or even simple shapes) to get the initial "hang" of the game?
2. There is a lot of unused screen space and littlies don't have such good coordination. Is it possible to make the letters bigger?

I am sure she will get lots of fun and learning from this! Keep up the good work.

### 5/5 — Helping my toddler write and spell words

*2013-06-04, version 3.2*

### 5/5 — Really cool

### 5/5 — Great teaching app!

*2012-11-25, version 3.1*

I got this for my daughter to practice her writing of letters. It's a great way to get her to see how letters sound out words in short spurts of time

### 5/5 — Found this on KinderTown

*2012-10-27, version 3.1*

Found this app on KinderTown and love it.

### 5/5 — Worth the download

*2012-10-13, version 3.0.3*

### 5/5 — Fun to play while learning

*2012-09-18, version 3.0.3*

My son is 2yrs old and he loves this App. It took him some trials to figure out how to trace with his fingers. Being at his age, I'm very impressed how he recognizes all his letters and numbers. Worth getting the full App.
