### 4/5 — Good reader

*2022-12-07*

Good reading App for J-Novel-Club mangas and novels with most of the expected functions (Dark mode, page mode, Fonts, chapter-progress-bar). It's sometimes could be a bit more comfortable to use regarding which Catch-Ups are available, how many parts are left in a book and having a dictionary functions. All in all well worth it for J-Novel-Club subscribers and buyers.

### 3/5 — It won't let me log in

*2022-07-20, version 1.0.0*

I made a account and everything and it won't let me log in

### 4/5 — Great app missing one thing

*2022-02-21, version 1.0.0*

The only thing wrong with the app is the manga only has a 1 page reading layout no 2page layout everything else is amazing huge selections of novels and manga that update every weekday

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Total garbage app

*2026-02-27, version 3.3.0*

This app is horrible. Almost unusable. Totally useless to join novel they just ask for money without providing anything

### 1/5 — Didn't receive any coins

*2025-07-04, version 3.1.1*

I purchased some coins but it still says 0 coins in my account :( Pls help me, I already tried reopening the app but it still says 0.

### 1/5 — No back button

*2025-07-04, version 3.1.1*

No back button have to constantly close the app

### 1/5 — Does NOT Work

*2025-06-26, version 3.1.1*

I used the app to create an account and I am supposed to get an email to very my account. I’ve waited an hour and nothing. I can log in and using “forgot my password” says it sent something, but again nothing has shown. Makes it feel iffy/shady.

### 1/5 — Haven’t been able to log in

*2024-11-18, version 3.1.1*

I haven’t been able to log in to the app since the website had issues in September. The login screen just fails to load and nothing has been done.
It’s November 2024 currently and I will update this is the login gets fixed.

### 1/5 — Scam

*2024-03-01, version 2.0.1*

Paid for the coins but wouldn’t give me my coins!!

### 1/5 — Welp $5 down the drain.

*2022-10-25, version 1.1.0*

Downloaded this to try to read one series and got the subscription. Turns out you can only read the “catch up” stuff with sub. So no way to read it if you are behind without buying the book itself. If I wanted to do that I wouldn’t get it from this site, rather just go physical.

### 2/5 — Good Books bad performance

*2025-03-10*

J-Novel Club has some really books, but the iPhone App has really bad performance. Especially in the iPhone 16e. If I have power safer off, it doesn’t even work smoothly and if I turn it on it’s really bad. I would also wish for an offline mode because in germany you don’t have everywhere mobile internet (I really mean it).

### 2/5 — Technical problems

*2024-11-09, version 3.1.1*

I used this app to read a series I love. However purchases had to be made on desktop due to it failing to process payments.

Now when I try to read any item, it crashes with a little image of a character apologising for the bug. That’s polite, but I’d rather not have it. Hope it’s fixed soon, unable to use the app right now

### 2/5 — The app is broken, again

*2024-10-12, version 3.1.1*

This review is for their app. Not bad when it works, but it usually has bugs. When you get a stable version you like, it eventually stops loading properly and you have to update. My problem is right now the upgraded app isn’t working at all! It seems to have lost all my reading history and won’t even show chapter titles.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Light in features, but works very well

*2026-03-18*

The app isn’t nearly as full-featured as the website but what’s there works well. I wish the community features of the website were included.

When you purchase a book you can actually download the DRM-free .epub file so you can share it between devices and use it with any ebook reader. You’re not locked down to staying within their app/platform to read your books if you don’t want to be.

The built-in reader is also fantastic, and much better than Apple Books and other competing epub readers. It’s very customizable and smooth to use. The only complaint I have is that (at least with Bookworm) it seems to be missing things like the color insert image and bonus content even though these are included in the epub file.

### 5/5 — Really good app

*2023-09-30, version 2.0.1*

Really good app, i was looking a lot for where to read the novels and mangas I wanted to read and this app has them and has no add which is amazing and a bunch of other really good novels.

### 5/5 — Finally, out of Beta!

*2021-12-16, version 1.0.0*

The beta app has been the go-to location for mobile access to JNC for some time - long ago eclipsing the now-defunct prior app. As a user for quite some time, the current app gives an all around good app experience for staying up to date with the latest JNC content.

### 5/5 — Great New App

*2021-12-15, version 1.0.0*

Used the beta of this app and loved how much easier it made reading my favourite stories and the monthly catch up.

### 4/5 — Worked Fine

*2025-11-10, version 3.2.0*

For the little I used the app it worked fine. What drove me to delete the app was the few manga I was interested in were all paid. Average at $8 a piece. So im good, im not gonna spend money on another service with a smaller selection subscribing or buying.

### 4/5 — Nice Reads for Light Novel

*2025-09-08, version 3.1.1*

I love the user friendliness of the app, including some customized functions like font style, size, background. Not to mention the dedicated work of translating! As a reading app, I wish we could highlight and insert notes on specific lines. Copying for sure is no need, but at least the highlights.

### 4/5 — Pretty good

*2025-01-16, version 3.1.1*

The app works pretty well and I really like the way they have everything organized.

There are only a few issues. When reading manga, 2 page spreads are not joined so you have to go back and forth to read them. When reading e books in paged mode, the text gets cut off by the rounded corner on the bottom left and vertical scroll is activated so you have to scroll a little bit to read everything.

I wish that the app would automatically proceed to the next part when it is something that you have access to instead of making you press the next part button.

I also wish the series share button would allow you to open the page in a browser rather than just share. Going to the series page is how to find out if there is a physical print of the series. It’s a shame that only about 10% of series get physical prints according to the numbers on the website but it’s understandable.

The subscription is a pretty good deal if you find a couple new series that you like that are still publishing. However, access to the backlog is limited. You might end up having to spend $25+ to get caught up on a series so that you can actually use the subscription.

### 4/5 — It’s great!

*2024-08-04, version 2.0.1*

The app makes it exceedingly easy to read light novels and comics, yes they come at a price but the sheer quality and customisation you can do while reading is so convenient. Prices are fair, but it could benefit from a subscription service, the current one makes no sense and isn’t worth it.

however it’s library is a little lacking and they also have tendency to axe LNs in favour of mangas.

### 4/5 — Pretty good place to read manga while supporting translaters

*2024-07-13, version 2.0.1*

The reason it isn't 5 stars is because app doesn't seem to have an option for a subscription membership. If you want one, you have to go to the website.

### 4/5 — Light in features, but works very well

*2024-02-18*

The app isn’t nearly as full-featured as the website but what’s there works well. I wish the community features of the website were included.
