Winning the various games earns points which you can redeem to decorate the cottage. Unfortunately, winning is very difficult and Jacquie Lawson will not adjust the winnability. A very frustrating experience! ### 2/5 — I love Jacquie Lawson BUT DISAPPOINTED!!! *2024-04-29, version 3.0.4* I love JL ecards and the annual Christmas Advent apps. So I downloaded this app AND purchased the extras. I’ve played all the games and earned a bunch of points and after acquiring everything there is with points and completing all the decor options - there is NOTHING left to do except try and best my own best scores. I’ve achieved absolute BOREDOM. Where are updates? New challenges? Very irritating. Click a card .. wait, click a card .. wait, ? What’s the point? It also sends each card to every pile before where your building. Developer aimed to annoy. Best if you slide the cards yourself. ### 2/5 — Disappointing *2023-04-30* I have enjoyed the Jacque Lawson e-cards I have received from others over the last few years. Then I got the advent calendar as a gift this year and really loved it. So I thought I’d give the country cottage a try. The free version was ok but I thought it was just so limited because it was free, so I bought the kitchen and garden additions. Nope. They are just as limited and quite frankly, pretty boring. The graphics are lovely, as you would expect, but there is nothing really to do - except a few repetitive games or choosing between a few choices of decorations. You can’t move between the rooms or garden without getting out of each section of the game on the website. The games also can be glitchy and freeze while you are playing. Hopefully the developers will put a LOT more effort into improving this app. ### 3/5 — Fun for mindless games *2023-04-08* I like playing mindless card games to wind down so it’s perfect for me. However, it is SUPER frustrating to finish the garden card game that takes a long time, only to have an error that I need to log in again appear instead of the game score/coins earned. Fortunately, my four year old daughter found the debug menu when she was decorating my house and managed to acquire about 3 million coins, so the loss doesn’t bother me too much. But I still think it’s a flaw in the game design. Also it would be nice if it didn’t seem to require a constant Wi-Fi connection. It would be a perfect airplane game otherwise. Finally, I wish it were possible to turn off the cat roomba in the kitchen. It’s amusing the first few times but is tedious after a few weeks ### 2/5 — Lovely but flawed *2023-02-10, version 3.0.4* I was thrilled to spend time cleaning up my cottage, I played lots of games so I could really deck out the interior in style. I have over 1500 points waiting to go…then….nothing. The app locked me out. Nothing happens when I tried to access the catalog. I tried deleting the app and downloading again but it just reinstalled what was saved on the Cloud. I can purchase and interact with the rooms but not the cottage. Very frustrating ### 3/5 — Beautiful, but needs work *2022-12-30, version 3.0.4* I agree with previous reviews that the app needs more ways to earn points. You can earn points by playing just 3 games, and though a developer’s response a year ago says there will be more.. there is still just 3. The ratio is off too; the number of points you earn for playing or winning a game is very low compared to the number of points you need to “buy” a decoration. In short, add more games (spider solitaire please!) and give them a higher payoff. ### 2/5 — Very limited choices *2022-12-30* I was gifted with the advent calendar, which was great, so thought I’d try this. It’s not worth it, even for free. You have to do all the mandatory improvements before you can customize anything, and when you finally get there the choices are very minimal, and don’t have the flexibility of the advent calendar. You can pick the style of a piece of furniture, but can’t change the color. This results very few choices that actually look good together, especially given the limited number of rugs to choose from. And the couch sitting off center, off the edge of the area rug, annoys me. The illustrations are beautiful, but earning 26 points from playing a game, and needing 300+ to buy an improvement that doesn’t measure up, just isn’t worth the time. ### 4/5 — Lost all my points *2022-12-28, version 3.0.4* I was gifted the Sussex advent calendar, and I fell in love. I love the graphics, music, games, everything about it! I decided to get the Country cottage and bought the kitchen expansion. I was excited about it but very disappointed at the points limit. Also, I had over 1000 + points last night and today I only had 5 points. Why did they disappear? It’s a little disappointing, since I was anxious to fix my kitchen. How do I get them back? I don’t know if there are any puzzles in this app, but it would be great if there were. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Kitchen Issues *2026-01-18, version 3.0.4* Purchased the kitchen update and most of the time it won’t open. Very frustrating that it just keeps giving me a message about loading, but it never loads. I have to close my iPad to close out of the app because it won’t allow it to do anything. Not happy after I spent money for it. It doesn’t deserve one star but it will not allow a no star rating. ### 1/5 — No paintbrush! *2023-06-01, version 3.0.4* I can’t get into decorating mode even though all my fixes are done!! I still have a wrench that does nothing either inside or out of the cottage when I click it. This happens on the Windows version too! Don’t waste your time on this one. Such a disappointment! ### 1/5 — No Tech Support *2023-03-12, version 3.0.4* Been a fan for years, like so many others, but my experience with this app and the lack of real support has forever changed that. If you have any problems with this app or the paid add-one DON’T expect any actual help or a refund. What you will get if you reach out to tech support is a constant carrousel of regurgitated suggestions. It doesn’t matter what device you’re using; PC or Mac, tablet or phone, Android or Apple, they will send you the series of “fixes” one at a time, each time you reach out to them. I sent a series of 6 emails, each one clarifying what my issue was and that I had exhausted all published suggested fixes, both online and in app, but they dribbled out the same published suggested fixes in snippets as a response, never actually addressing my questions. I would recommend avoiding Jacquie Lawson apps at all cost, there’s absolutely zero responsibility. ### 1/5 — Terrible Tech Support *2023-02-22, version 3.0.4* I’ve loved Jacquie Lawson interactive apps for years from the Advent Calendars to other downloadable games. This is the first time I’ve experienced a tech issue but boy what an eye opener. I purchased the Kitchen Expansion for this Country Cottage app and it doesn’t work on any of my devices; Windows PC running 10, Samsung tablet, and new iPhone 14 Plus. There are a number of different options to troubleshoot this issue and when researched there are a lot of customers who’ve had the same problem. Unfortunately the tech support for Jacquie Lawson just keeps regurgitating the same steps without any additional info or real help with troubleshooting. Very frustrating and disappointing as well as a complete waste of money. If you want to avoid a major headache look for fun elsewhere. This is not the app for you. ### 1/5 — Disappointed *2023-01-14, version 3.0.4* There are only 3 different games, you need to play games in order to earn points to renovate your cottage. Its functions are limited for hours, even days at a time by ‘technical issues’, and when it is working it’s hardly worth bothering with. The furnishing and decorating choices are very limited, e.g., a measly three choices of sofa, etc. I paid for the garden and kitchen extensions in the hope of more choices. No such luck. I noticed the free cottage game and downloaded it on my computer and phone. It’s so beautiful and cute. I was shocked by all the reviews complaining about it. For starters… it’s free for everyone and the idea is brilliant. You’re supposed to retreat into your cottage as a break from the world. Sit at the table, play a few games… boop your kitties, and maybe do some redecorating eventually. I love the music and soundscape options. I open the game on my computer, let the music shuffle while I work, and after getting some work done… I play a few rounds of a game or send a letter to my hubby or kids… then back to work. I get that there could be more options but it’s a free game that is done beautifully. I appreciate it for what it is… having said that… if there were to be updates, I think these would be fun… having it go night based on computer time (seeing the lamps and fire at night would be awesome), the ability to interact with pets more, and indoor and outdoor holiday decorations. Anyway, I will be getting the expansion packs for more enjoyment soon. Excellent work! ### 5/5 — New kitchen package really fun *2022-05-14* I downloaded this app months ago- I played the games and renovated the cottage over time- I added the garden package- it took a long time to earn the points needed to renovate the garden as I wanted everything and the points needed to earn items was very high- the points to renovate have now been adjusted so it doesn’t take as long to renovate- the new kitchen addition has been a lot of fun- I was able to renovate all three kitchens with points I had saved up until the kitchen package was available- it was worth the wait- the videos each day were really fun- they can be rewatched in the activity calendar- it was really fun to have three kitchens to work on- if more packages are made and they are as fun as the kitchen package I am sure I will get them- the only thing I would change is the number of games- there needs to be a few more games or activities throughout each package to earn points- I have enjoyed the Christmas app that is made each year, the card app & the coloring book app- thank you Jacquie Lawson & staff for all of your efforts in all of you products! 🌻 ### 5/5 — Wunderbar *2022-05-05, version 3.0.2* Immer wieder ein Vergnügen! I also paid extra to download the garden expansion and very worth it in my opinion. Pro Tip: Make sure you have at least 200 game points available before you buy an expansion pack. I ran into a little bug since I had spent all my points before ordering the expansion pack. It was easy to earn more points in the cottage mini games then I was fine when I went into the garden expansion. Developers: Keep making great expansion packs & I will buy them. Would appreciate more catalog options in the future, ability to interact with pets, and things getting dirty again every so often so I can clean. Had to first buy the Kitchen expansion,then send it to myself on the website, then activate it! I had to also log out on iPad and log in again…to the Country cottage app, and then finally it was activated. I love it, as with the other apps in the series it is beautiful and addictive. Got more points just for doing the tour. Giving 5 stars, but devs, you need to make the activation a bit clearer for people.
