## What is JAMD Microscopic Video Editor?

JAMD Microscopic Video Editor helps you prepare the case video required for certification by the Japan Association of Microscopic Dentistry (JAMD) — Certified Dentist and Certified Dental Hygienist — entirely on your iPhone.

WHY THIS APP EXISTS
General-purpose video apps make it easy to add something a certification case video is not meant to contain. Stabilization, a crop, a speed change or a transition can be applied in a single tap — often without the applicant ever intending it. This app takes a different approach: rather than warning you afterwards, it simply does not implement those operations. Cutting, subtitles and title cards are all there is. You do not need to memorize the editing rules; a video that breaks them cannot be produced.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

- Two modes
Certified Dentist: one case, 180-300 seconds of case footage.
Certified Dental Hygienist: one Required Task video (90-120 seconds) plus two Free Task videos (up to 90 seconds each), joined automatically into one video (fiscal 2027 rules).
Choosing a mode applies the submission rules automatically.

- Cut editing
Select only the parts you need. The timeline plays back the finished video itself, so you can split, delete and trim while seeing exactly what will be exported.

- Subtitles
Overlay procedure names or commentary. Font size and position (top / middle / bottom) are adjustable. You can also type them all at once in a list view.

- Title cards
Enter the applicant name and case title, and a rule-compliant title card (3 seconds each) is generated automatically.

- Preflight check
Before export, the app verifies resolution, frame rate, length and subtitle placement. If any rule is not met, export is blocked and the problem is shown.

- Silent export
The submission rules require no audio, so every audio track is removed automatically.

- Edit log
A JSON record is generated alongside the video. It stores only which source was used, from what second to what second. There is no field in which a scale factor or a speed factor could be written, so the record itself shows that out-of-spec processing could not have entered.
(This records what was done inside this app. It does not determine whether the source video was processed before import.)

- Four languages
Japanese / English / Korean / Traditional Chinese

SUBMISSION RULES ENFORCED
- Format: MP4
- Resolution: 640x480 or higher, 1920x1080 recommended
- Frame rate: 24fps or 30fps
- Audio: none (removed automatically)
- Editing: cut, subtitles and title cards only

PRIVACY
All video data is processed on your device. The app has no networking capability, so nothing is ever uploaded to any server.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2026-08-26

[2.2] Insert clinical photos and radiographs

■ Add still images to your case video
You can now place pre- and post-operative intraoral photos and radiographs between video segments. Each image starts at 3 seconds, and the duration can be adjusted after import. Images appear on the timeline and can be moved to a different position at any time.

For the Certified Dental Hygienist Free Task, images can also be overlaid on top of the video. Size, position and rotation are adjusted with your fingers, and rotation snaps to every 90 degrees. You can build layouts such as an intraoral photo and a date caption placed over a radiograph.

Note: the available features change with the mode and the case. Certified Dentist case videos support insertion only, not overlay. The Certified Dental Hygienist Required Task does not allow still images at all (trimming the start and end only). Inserted images add their duration to the total length of the video.

■ Subtitle improvements
- Subtitles are now inserted exactly at the red playhead position on the timeline
- Subtitles are shown in the preview on the clip editing screen, so you can check the finished result in place
- Subtitles can be dragged along the timeline to change their timing

■ Support for camcorders (AVCHD / MTS)
.MTS and .M2TS files recorded on Sony and similar camcorders can now be imported from "Import from Files" (the green folder button). In earlier versions these files appeared greyed out in the Files app and could not be selected. SD card readers and USB drives work directly.

■ A clearer preview
The dimming that covered the whole preview has been removed, so the operating field is shown at the brightness it was filmed at. Readouts that used to sit on top of the video have been tidied away, giving you more room.

Note: nothing has changed in the exported video (resolution, frame rate, silent audio) or in the submission-rule checks.

### 2.1 — 2026-08-03

[2.1] Easier handling on the clip editing screen

■ The yellow trim handles on the timeline can now be grabbed reliably
When trimming the start and end of a video, the zoom in/out (magnifier) buttons were overlaid on the bottom-left of the timeline and could get in the way of the yellow trim handles. If a handle happened to sit underneath a button, it could not be dragged at all.

In this update the zoom buttons have been moved out of the timeline, onto their own row just below it. The buttons and the handles no longer overlap, so every handle can be grabbed reliably, wherever it sits.

■ Especially helpful for the Required Task
The Certified Dental Hygienist Required Task video has to be finished using nothing but trimming at the start and end. Handle dragging is the only editing available there, so this is where the improvement matters most.

■ The same fix applies to the subtitle screen
On the subtitle editing screen, subtitles near the left edge are no longer hidden behind the buttons.

Note: Pinch to zoom works exactly as before. Nothing has changed in how your edits, the exported video, or the submission-rule checks behave.

### 2.0 — 2026-08-02

[2.0] Updated for the Certified Dental Hygienist "Fiscal 2027 Case-Video Rules"

Starting in fiscal 2027 (Sendai Congress), the Japan Association of Microscopic Dentistry (JAMD) is changing how Certified Dental Hygienist submission videos are structured. This update reworks the app's Certified Dental Hygienist mode so you can build videos that follow the new rules.

■ Submissions are now three videos: one Required Task + two Free Tasks
The old format (three videos of 60-90 seconds each) has changed to:
- Required Task video (1): six-point probing of #16/#17. 90-120 seconds.
- Free Task videos (2): up to 90 seconds each. Topic is your choice.
Select Certified Dental Hygienist mode at launch and this structure is applied automatically.

■ The Required Task is limited to trimming the start and end
On the Required Task video, mid-clip cuts, subtitles, and captions are not allowed - only trimming the head and tail. The app hides the "Split" and "Subtitle" buttons on the Required Task editing screen, so you won't accidentally produce a non-compliant video even if you don't have every detail of the rules memorized.

■ Free Tasks can still be edited as before
The two Free Task videos support mid-clip cuts and subtitles (captions), just as before. Compose each one freely within 90 seconds.

■ Section header cards inserted automatically on export
The exported MP4 automatically includes header cards - one before the Required Task video, and one before each Free Task video (Free Task 1, Free Task 2).

■ Certified Dentist mode is unchanged
Certified Dentist mode (one case, 3-5 minutes) works exactly as before. This update affects the Certified Dental Hygienist mode only.

Please note
- The new rules apply from fiscal 2027 onward. If you are submitting under the earlier rules, please check the association's latest call for entries.
- Existing projects can be used as they are. All video is processed on your device and is never sent anywhere.

### 1.7 — 2026-07-23

[v1.7] "Supervisor" has been changed to "Recommender"

TERMINOLOGY UPDATED FOR THE ACADEMY'S NEW SYSTEM
From 2027, instructing dentists and instructing dental hygienists can serve as recommenders. The wording in the app has been updated from "supervisor" to "recommender" accordingly.

- The "Export for Recommender Review" button
- The title card of the exported video ("Case 1 - For Recommender Review")
- The guidance text shown when sharing

No functional changes. Existing projects work as before.

### 1.6 — 2026-07-21

[v1.6] A rebuilt cut editor, and full-length cases you can actually use

LENGTH IS NOW JUDGED ON THE CASE FOOTAGE
Until now, three 90-second cases in Certified Dental Hygienist mode would not export, and neither would exactly 300 seconds of footage in Certified Dentist mode — even though each case was within the rules. The title-card seconds were being counted against the limit. Length is now judged on the total of the case footage, so the full permitted length is usable. Title cards (3 seconds each) are added on top of that.

THE CUT EDITOR HAS BEEN REBUILT
- The timeline now plays back the finished video itself, so splits and deletions are reflected exactly as they will appear. Deleting closes the gap and the playhead moves to the join.
- Trim handles: drag the edge of a clip to adjust its length.
- "Split here" now sits directly under the playback controls, so you can cut while watching, without scrolling.
- Fixed the timeline overshooting when you flicked and released it. Ease it into place and it stays; flick it and it glides.
- The split point snaps to the playhead when they meet, with haptic feedback.
- Added haptics for delete, split, snap, select and export completion.

SUBTITLES CAN BE EDITED AS A LIST
A new screen lets you enter subtitles one after another in a list while checking how they appear. Undo is supported.

PERFORMANCE
Drawing in the cut and subtitle editors has been reworked and is now lighter. Thumbnails no longer flicker away for a moment when you split.

PREFLIGHT CHECK
- The applicant name and case title can now be corrected from the preflight screen.
- Fixed a problem where export was possible with the name or case title left empty.
- Export can now be cancelled while it runs.

OTHER FIXES
- Subtitle margins in the exported video now match how they look in the editor.
- Fixed a gap at the bottom of the subtitle editor caused by an oversized input field.
- If photo access is not granted, the app now guides you to Settings.
- Edits are now saved reliably when the app is closed or sent to the background.
