## What is Japan Disaster Guide?

Japan Disaster Guide helps travelers and residents stay safe during disasters in Japan — in English, 日本語, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 한국어, ภาษาไทย and Tiếng Việt.

WHAT YOU GET

Nationwide evacuation shelters on a map, with directions (official GSI data)
Real-time weather warnings from the Japan Meteorological Agency for your area
Step-by-step action guides for each disaster, with voice read-aloud in your language
Emergency cards — show your screen to communicate with Japanese speakers
Works offline — guides and emergency cards are available without a connection
Saved places — watch your hotel and planned spots, with alerts for each place and offline shelter packs
Priority alerts — real-time push notifications when a new warning is issued for areas you watch

TRAVELER UNLOCK (optional one-time purchase)

Live safety sharing: send a link so family or travel companions can see your safety status in a browser — no app required. You control when it starts and stops; the link is view-only. Also unlocks up to 5 saved places.
PRIVACY FIRST No account or sign-up. No ads or tracking. Location is used on your device to find nearby shelters. When you choose to share, only a coarse (~1 km) location is shown, and only while you enable it. Your emergency info (blood type, allergies) stays on your device.

Japan Disaster Guide is a supplementary tool. In an emergency, always follow official instructions from local authorities and emergency services.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.1 — 2026-08-15

Bug fixes for weather warnings:

- Weather warnings now come from the Japan Meteorological Agency's updated feed. Earlier versions could miss warnings issued after late May - please update.
- New danger-level warnings (Alert Level 4) now appear above regular warnings with evacuation guidance, including landslide danger warnings.
- Landslide advisories are now shown.
- Reliability fixes for purchases and safety sharing.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-04

New in 1.3.0

• Earthquake alerts. Get a push notification when an earthquake shakes an area you watch, with the Japanese seismic intensity (shindo) measured in that prefecture.
• Choose your own threshold — intensity 3, 4 or 5-lower — so you decide how much you want to hear about.
• Tsunami warnings and advisories, including a notification when they are lifted.
• Follow me as I travel (optional). Keeps alerts pointed at where you actually are, even if you travel without opening the app.
• A new introduction that shows what the app can do before you need it, with real shelters near your destination.
• Improvements now reach you without restarting the app.

Priority alerts are off by default and can be turned on in Settings. Japan Disaster Guide is a supplementary tool — in an emergency, always follow the instructions of local authorities.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-07-27

• Refreshed screenshots showing the latest app
• Weather overview on the Home screen — conditions, temperature and chance of rain for where you are
• Various stability improvements

### 1.2.0 — 2026-07-25

• Now available in Thai (ภาษาไทย) and Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt) — 7 languages total
• Add destinations by search — watch alerts for your hotel and next stops before you even arrive (e.g. search "Kyoto")
• Your saved places and their alert status now appear on the Home screen
• More accurate local warnings and various fixes

### 1.1.0 — 2026-07-22

• Saved places — save your hotel and the spots you plan to visit, and check alerts for each place
• Offline shelter packs — download shelters around your saved places; the list works even with no signal
