J’utilise cette application depuis plusieurs années et j’en suis ravi, le développeur est sérieux, l’application a de nombreuses fonctionnalités super utiles et des mises à jour régulières. Je la recommande vivement pour tous les curieux de la langue japonaise et les personnes qui apprennent la langue

### 5/5 — The best nihonggo app ever

*2026-01-29*

It includes word related to what I searched thats why I can easily memorize the word i am searching

### 5/5 — Super App

*2026-01-13*

Normalerweise schreibe ich keine Rezensionen, aber ich liebe diese App. Ich lerne schon lange Japanisch und hab viele Apps, Bücher, YouTube channel etc. ausprobiert und diese App ist die beste Resource, auf die ich je gestoßen bin. Jedes Wort, was man sucht, ist eingetragen, man kann direkt nach Radikalen suchen, selbst grammatikalische Funktionen sind bestens erklärt. Besser als auf sonst eine Website oder Channel. Wirklich klasse. Ich werde diese App nie wieder löschen. Weiter so!

### 5/5 — Strong Learning Tool

*2026-01-12, version 1.33.2*

Critically important daily tool. Nothing better.

### 5/5 — Clippings is a godsend

*2026-01-10, version 1.33.2*

Love the whole app, but Clippings is hands down my favourite. I use an AI tool to write Japanese stories and essays at my current JLPT level, then paste it into Clippings and voila, I have comprehensible input perfectly matched to my level and interest.

### 5/5 — meilleure application pour Apprendre le japonais

*2026-01-05*

honnêtement j’en ai acheté et j’en ai téléchargé des applications qu’elle soit payante ou gratuite pour Apprendre le japonais. Et franchement celle-ci est une des rares que j’utilise encore. Elle a vraiment que des qualités.

### 5/5 — If you are a beginner then you need this

*2026-01-03, version 1.33.2*

This app is great for learning Japanese it’s a dictionary and a flash cards for you

### 5/5 — Sehr schönes Wörterbuch !!

*2025-12-24*

Das beste Wörterbuch für Japanisch, dass ich bisher gefunden habe. Die kompletten Verbformen werden angezeigt. Man kann sogar gefundene Wörter nach Anki exportieren.

### 5/5 — Excellent dictionary!

*2025-12-23, version 1.33.2*

Excellent dictionary. It’s extremely useful since it can be used offline.

### 5/5 — Nothing else comes close

*2025-11-22, version 1.32.6*

Any serious learner of Japanese will tell you the same thing: there are other apps, and then there’s Nihongo. For range of features, careful design, and quality for price, nothing else comes close.

### 4/5 — Erreur de facturation

*2025-11-22*

Super application pour qui apprend le japonais.
Mais dommage que le tarif soit erroné… Une fenêtre m’informe que l’app a vie est actuellement à 59,99€. Génial! Mais quand je clique pour payer le tarif est passé à 89,99€… comment faire pour payer le tarif annoncé ?

**Developer response:** (Traduction automatique)

### 5/5 — Motivation to study

*2025-09-23*

I love how the app automatically creates flashcards from my dictionary history. Reviewing words helps me remember them, and flashcards have become a daily ritual I look forward to reading! The best Japanese learning app, by far.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I was wrong, it’s just another app that makes you pay

*2026-02-21, version 1.33.2*

The below is the review I gave this app while I was drinking and looking for a free app up until I realized it was all just a trial period. Lame. Back to the google app until someone makes one.

I use this for Japanese steam games like Dragon Quest 11. I was using the google app before and then stumbled across a couple others that are asking me to pay $30. This is a free app that does everything in a quick and organized manner. Nothing to complain about. 👑

### 1/5 — 付费

*2026-02-15*

付费阅读

### 1/5 — Dan

*2026-01-17*

Full of mistakes

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. Example sentence audio is currently based on Apple's built-in text-to-speech system, which unfortunately can sometimes make mistakes, especially when the reading of a certain kanji compound is ambiguous. I have some plans to improve this in the future, but can't say exactly when at the moment.

### 1/5 — Shame

*2025-09-18*

You've turned the dictionary into a place for political manifestos and insults. Shame.

**Developer response:** Sorry you had a bad experience like this. I'm guessing you found some example sentences you found objectionable? These are crowd-sourced, so I don't verify all of them before they go in the app. If you email me at chris@nihongo-app.com, I'll check it out and remove them.

### 1/5 — Was great until latest update

*2024-10-22, version 1.31.10*

Latest update hid the photo option behind the paid option. No thanks. Was considering paying just because it worked but removing features that were open to free users feels greedy.

### 1/5 — flash cards

*2024-01-18, version 1.30.8*

does it really cost money to use a basic feature like practicing flash cards? you’re kidding right.

### 1/5 — Inconvenient for quick search

*2023-05-30, version 1.29.14*

Every time entering the app, you need to tap the search bar to draw keyboard out. That’s what I think inconvenient. Why not automatically pop out the keyboard and begin to input words you wanna look up? Additional tapping the top search bar really waste time and frustrating. As a whole, this app is terrific. Beautiful colors and detailed interpretation leave me a deep impression. Ranking one star doesn’t mean unsatisfied, but wish it could draw your attention to the inconvenient situation above.

### 1/5 — Mistakes

*2020-09-13*

I purchased the app for 3 months and as a dictionary if you know Hiragana works fine. However it’s use of romanji sometimes is off (eg du for zu) I will probably end up buying the app permanent more for it flash cards to review words that I have looked up (a nice feature) however it has some irritating problems and mistakes. 1) the Kanji at times when it gives examples in its usage is outright wrong. You click the Kanji word and a different Kanji appears. 2) Also the example sentences they give with certain word seems to be computer generated so that even more complex words are added to the sample sentence making the sample sentence incomprehensible at times. It seems that a sentence would be generated to use as much complex words as possible so it can be reused for other examples. 3) The sample sentence does not include the the translated word, making me wonder whether the meaning given by the dictionary is correct. eg try look up Osameru/ Osamaru. Has potential to be a five star application but would try the application for a few months and make sure you can tolerate the mistakes.

### 1/5 — Can’t delete it

*2019-01-13, version 1.12.1*

I want to delete this app but it keeps reappearing, and I can’t open it or redownload or delete it. Help?

### 2/5 — Lifetime purchase doesn’t include all features

*2024-02-04, version 1.30.8*

I think it’s lame lifetime purchase doesn’t include pitch accents. This is a free feature in other free to use apps. Also there is no way to include example phrases from the dictionary into the flashcards.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very helpful

*2026-07-18, version 1.34.4*

This app has helped me look up words I didn’t know

### 5/5 — Best Japanese Dictionary

*2026-06-20*

Great resource for learning Japanese.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the kind words about the app!

I'm not sure I totally understand the issue you're describing. I wonder if it's something specific to the Russian translation that I haven't noticed because I don't speak Russian?

I would love to dig into this and figure out how to fix it for you. Would you mind reaching out to me at support@nihongo-app.com with a screenshot of the issue?

Thanks!

### 5/5 — Un outil incontournable pour tous ceux qui veulent apprendre le japonais.

### 5/5 — Lo recomiendo

*2026-05-29*

Es la mejor herramienta que tengo para estudiar, puedo ver la conjugación de verbos, adjetivos y frases de ejemplo.

### 5/5 — No better Dictionary

*2026-05-22, version 1.34*

This dictionary does it all. Massive word catalogue, stroke order, SR flash cards, pronunciation, example sentences, the list goes on. This has been my go to for years, and though I’ve tried others, I always returned to this one. Easily five stars.

### 5/5 — Best Japanese learning app

*2026-05-16, version 1.33.5*

I love this app. Easy to look up kanji, in context. Stroke order, example sentences, vocab lists, testing yourself. Best app out there for all levels
