This app is designed to be used with the companion book, but you don’t need it for it to be useful as an alternative audio/vocab source for those who like to self-study. It’s obviously geared toward business types; my first encounter with the Japanese word for lawyer (弁護士) was in this app. That being said the app has no kanji - it’s all kana.
