### 1/5 — Lacklustre

*2026-02-05, version 1.81.0*

The gym itself is fine. The app does nothing more than let you in and book classes.
Keeps asking me to have notifications turned on even though I’ve pressed no countless times.
There is nothing else on this app, compared to the gym group app it’s very behind - add a log of time spent in the gym or how many people in the gym currently.
Needs serious improvement!

### 1/5 — Disappointingly basic

*2026-01-31, version 1.81.0*

The gym itself is good but this app really lets the experience down. Its functionality is so basic and a long way behind other gym apps, I was honestly shocked when I first joined.

Also very disappointing to read that the same comments have been made as long as four years ago in the reviews below, and nothing has been done to improve it. Ignoring your members’ feedback is not something a properly customer-focused company should be doing.

Come on JD, please sort this out. Considering what we pay as a monthly, we expect better.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-01-30, version 1.81.0*

Doesn’t tell you how many occupants are in the gym or any info atall would be helpful !

### 1/5 — Useless

*2026-01-28, version 1.81.0*

This app hasn’t improved from when I first joined JD Gyms. Still can’t book into any classes

### 1/5 — Need to add more app features

*2026-01-28, version 1.81.0*

Can’t even see how many is in the gym like other apps or stats on peak times etc

### 1/5 — App features

*2026-01-10, version 1.80.0*

Right of the bat this is a terrible app. For a company that is so big and they have 100+ gyms I don’t know how they’ve gotten away with a pathetic app like this. Absolutely shocked at how bad it is. It feels like I’ve been taken back in time or as if I created this app in ICT in school. I probably would’ve done a better job.
I hate to say it but “The Gym Group” “Puregym” “Everyone Active” all their apps are user friendly and decent. They let you know how many people are at the gym, allow you to book, allow you to see some workouts to try at the gym, track your attendance. This app is just for the QR code. I’m sure it’s not expensive to hire someone to re do the app. Hell I’ll find someone!

### 1/5 — Worst gym app ever used - puregym and the gym group better

*2026-01-04, version 1.80.0*

This app is terrible. Puregym and the gym group’s apps are perfect compared. The app is so hard to use, can tell it was made extremely cheaply and with no effort. Only 3 options, QR code, upgrade or class timetable. No way to book classes or find out how sauna works. Im a new member and might cancel just over this tbh and go back to the gym group. Not worth the storage space on my phone. Awful stuff.

### 1/5 — Dont use jd gym dont let u cancel

*2026-01-02, version 1.80.0*

Wank

### 1/5 — Poorly made app

*2025-12-16, version 1.80.0*

The app doesn’t show the head count at any given moment. Doesn’t record or tell any other details. It merely acts as entry pass

### 2/5 — Pointless

*2025-11-28, version 1.80.0*

Plus side:
Its a handy place to see when the class timetables are.

Negatives:
You can only see timetable for your primary gym not a 2nd gym you may attend.

It could be so much better like sending alerts when showers are out or bank holiday closure times.

Conclusion:
It’s a glorified key entry system, when typing the 8 digit entry pin in was more than adequate - and saved having to bring the phone to the gym with you.

### 1/5 — Review

*2025-11-21, version 1.80.0*

App is so basic, cant even manage ur subscription or anything to do with payments

### 1/5 — Useless gym app

*2025-10-25, version 1.80.0*

Essentially a gym access tool with no ability to track gym usage - this should be a basic “must” for any gym membership app. Very poor JD - sort it out!!

### 1/5 — Charged after cancelled membership

*2025-10-21, version 1.80.0*

Charged after cancelled membership

### 1/5 — Features don’t work

*2025-10-21, version 1.80.0*

App is dysfunctional and has a lot of errors

### 1/5 — Scam

*2025-09-18, version 1.80.0*

Took money out my account for a membership but it doesn’t work and aren’t refunding me

### 1/5 — JD gym app

*2025-08-31, version 1.80.0*

The only part of the app that seems to work is the access QR code it generates each time. Nothing else works

### 1/5 — unreliable hinderance of an app

*2025-08-30, version 1.80.0*

if you ever want to manage your account then good luck because you always have to send emails regarding anything. once you scan to enter the gym you better hope that you brought anything with you because you will not be allowed to re-enter once you leave - how much of a bother is that when your using the gym whilst staff are not present (eg. after 20:00/22:00)?? cancelling or managing your membership is an absolute pain and they have the cheek to charge you even after cancelling. my cancellation was responded to after almost a month after requesting. the gym itself is great but i’m sure they could afford to invest in a better, more useful app and system.

### 1/5 — Started basic now won’t even perform minimum expectations

*2025-08-25, version 1.79.0*

I have been going to JD for a few years now and my gym operates 24/7, there are no staff after 22:00, this is important considering the app is how we are now expected to enter and more importantly exit the gym. The latest update 1.79.0 seems to work only when it feels like it, the rest of the time it just brings up a JD Sports splash screen with no further functionality or if it does progress further then it will not generate a QR code for the door leaving the potential to be unable to leave if the app fails while you are inside the gym after 22:00. Given this risk the 24/7 aspect of the gym is rendered obsolete until this is resolved.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Registration???

*2026-04-09, version 1.81.1*

Because of a very poorly thought out app, I chose another gym. I don't have an account, I wanted to register but I had no where to go. The person who made the app is brainless.

### 1/5 — Very bad app

*2026-04-07, version 1.81.1*

Idk what to say, this app makes me stressful. It’s a shame bc gym so nice. Do smth with it!!!

### 1/5 — Impossible to cancel

*2026-04-05, version 1.81.1*

If you are struggling with money, don’t get this gym membership. They ignore all your emails about cancelling for that month just as a way to squeeze that last payment out of you and THEN they cancel it. That’s why they say to give 30 months notice which doesn’t make sense. You can cancel any other subscription instantly but not JD gym. Terrible system.

### 1/5 — Offers are misleading and the app is dreadful

*2026-03-26, version 1.81.1*

Lots of misleading offers £15 for the month cancel whenever etc etc. not true, the response from CS takes up to 10 days. Yes 10! Dreadful company use another gym

### 1/5 — Basic app which really lets the gym down

*2026-03-17, version 1.81.1*

The app is only useful for accessing the gym. I expected to see alot more
- a tracker of some sort, with entry and exit times
- visibility of how busy the gym is
- option to book PT
- basic workout plans for beginners
I have other fitness tracking apps on my phone but expected my gym to offer more than a QR code

### 1/5 — Poor App

*2026-03-14, version 1.81.1*

This app basically only gives you a QR code to get into the gym that’s it. There’s no way to track how many times I’ve signed in or monitor my gym visits, no progress tracking, and almost nothing useful beyond basic entry and class timetables. For a gym app in 2026 this feels really bare‑bones and underdeveloped. JD Gyms needs to add proper user features like visit history and workout tracking otherwise it’s just a QR code generator.

### 1/5 — App is terrible

*2026-03-11, version 1.81.1*

App barely functional, unable to find membership number to freeze my account whilst i go away.

### 1/5 — needs apple wallet support

*2026-02-14, version 1.81.0*

.

### 1/5 — App could be better

*2026-02-14, version 1.81.0*

Gym itself is fantastic, but the app really lets it down. Would be better to have a feature to show how may people are in the gym and your previous gym usage etc the app is really only for a code to get in and to view the timetable of classes

### 1/5 — Too Basic

*2026-02-06, version 1.81.0*

Please add how many people are in the gym live, surely this isn’t difficult to implement - other gyms can do this with ease.

Your competitors have much better apps, on some the main gym apps it can create a custom training plan for you, exercise diaries, suggestions and implementing AI in exercises as well as videos on how you correctly use machines.

Other apps also ask you what your goals are as well as suggesting workouts for certain things.

There are cheaper gyms that provide better service through their apps like The Gym Group or PureGym.

Please implement a complete overhaul of your app. I feel like I’m missing out on benefits with other gyms.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — so so mad

*2025-08-30, version 1.80.0*

it dosent show qr code when i want to go in and im fuming.

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2025-07-16, version 1.79.0*

Magic wonders wondie

### 5/5 — Serves its purpose

*2024-12-31, version 1.72.0*

Works fine, nothing special. Would be great to get access to the app via Apple Watch so I can visit the gym without my phone.

### 5/5 — Very useful app!

*2024-01-10*

This is a very useful app, gives you a QR to come into the gym, shows what classes are happening at the moment and what classes would go on for the rest of the week.
Only thing I would suggest as an improvement is a number that shows us how many people are in the gym right now if you could calculate that by the QR or idk how that would work but Yh I think Pure gym and others have that feature but it would be a good thing to implement. Overall the app is perfect for going to the gym and getting through the doors.

### 4/5 — Needs an Apple Watch App

*2024-12-20, version 1.71.0*

Many people would like to visit the gym without their phone. Please can we have an Apple Watch app

### 4/5 — JD Gym app long way to go!!

*2024-09-04, version 1.68.0*

JD Gym is still lagging behind!!!! No AppleWatch compatible app? An app to , generate QR entry access codes at a minimum would be good. JD Gym missed opportunity to tap in on the fitness wearables market, by not offering apps on smartwatch . JD should also include workout exercises. Ability to log and track workouts activities. Virtual trainer. Virtual classes. Stream video feed that being broadcast in Gym To make this a 5* experience

### 3/5 — Activity feed

*2026-01-12, version 1.80.0*

App is ok but only thing missing is an activity feed

### 3/5 — Needs a count of how many people are in the gym

*2025-08-21, version 1.79.0*

Would be handy if the app could tell users how many others there are in the gym like other gyms.
Used the gym for the first time Monday just gone and there were lots of people there and I only got use of two machines before continuing the rest of my workout at home.

### 3/5 — Should be compatible with Apple Watch

*2024-09-24, version 1.68.0*

Should be compatible with Apple Watch. All it needs to do is generate a QR code for access in/out of the gym.

It’s a pain having to take my phone as well as Apple Watch, keys, towel, headphones etc. if I could just cut down on the phone at least!

### 3/5 — JD Gym App Review

*2024-09-04, version 1.68.0*

The app is great, but it would be even better with a couple of additional features. I wish it had the ability to track how many times you visit the gym each month and how long you spend there during each session. It would also be helpful to know how many people are at the gym before you go. If these features were added, I’d give the app a five-star review. However, as it stands, it’s a three-star for me.
