## What is Jelly Jammer?

Jelly Jammer is a fun synthesiser phone/iPad app that lets kids and adults alike experiment with sounds, build songs, and share music. It helps teach about sound and music theory in a fun and engaging way. Feel free to check out the free, limited, web version before you purchase the app.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-08-04

- MORE Jellies! — From more realistic instruments to sound effects. A new Jelly filter system helps find the Jelly you want.
- Note spelling — The row editor picks a pitch as octave + base note + modifier (double flat through double sharp), so a song written in flats can be entered as written.
- Studio Filter moved — Now a Settings tile under Advanced rather than a song's menu, since it colours everything the app plays and exports.
- Smaller, tidier shares — .jam files are compressed (around 75% smaller) and no longer preview as a wall of JSON when shared. Older .jam files still import.
- Fixes — Leaving the Stage mid-song no longer crashes; Android 15 edge-to-edge display and 16 KB page-size support.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-07-16

- Play Along (Beta) — A rhythm game built from your own song. Pick a part (a melody jelly or Drums); the band plays the backing while your notes fall down a lane and only sound when you tap them on time. Perfect/Nice timing windows, combos, stars, and Easy/Medium/Hard difficulty. Play from the Home "Play Along" room card or Jam Factory Menu > Play Along.
- Scoreboards — Top-10 boards per difficulty ride with the song, so they travel inside shared .jam files. High scores get 3-letter initials entry. Importing a matching jam merges its scores instead of duplicating, and recoloring or renaming a jelly no longer wipes a song's boards.
- Video export (Stage) — The jelly band now performs your song on a spotlit stage (Song Builder > Stage), with falling notes, sweeping spotlights, drum-floor flashes, and a branded outro. The paid app records it as a shareable MP4 on Windows, Android, and iOS; free/web shows a live teaser.
- Fixes — Muted drum lanes no longer leak into WAV exports; exported audio and video stay in sync by construction.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-07-13

- Jelly variants — Jellies can now have alternate modes (e.g. hi-hat Open/Closed, brass Muted). Long-press a drum cell to pick a variant; non-base squares show a corner badge. Playback and WAV export resolve variants automatically. A new brush (◯) beside Erase/Sustain flips a drum square to its variant and back in one tap.
- Custom drums in the Lab — The Jelly Lab now edits every family: design your own percussion, preview it in the pad, and use it in songs just like built-in drums. Custom drums embed in .jam files so they travel between devices.
- Category filter chips — Every jelly picker now has an All / Synths / Guitars / Drums / Percussion chip row, plus a "Mine" chip to surface your saved jellies.
- Block clone — Duplicate a block from its settings flyup; the copy lands in the play sequence right after the original.
- Flyup-based deletion — Row, lane, and block deletion moved into their settings flyups (out of inline trash icons), with confirmation guards.
- Synth volume control — A Volume slider in the Jelly Lab sets loudness for synth voices without altering the sound's shape.
- Jam pad dimming — Note pads in the Jam room are softer on the eyes.
- Studio Filter (Advanced) — Load a convolution impulse response (built-in "Garage Studio" or your own WAV/AIFF) to colour the master bus. Applies to live playback and bakes into WAV exports.
- Lab polish — Saving over an existing jelly warns then overwrites in place (no duplicates); deleting a saved jelly confirms first; controls reordered for consistency.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-07-02

- Block settings flyup — Edit a block's name, length, color bands, and speed from a cog menu.
- Variable-width blocks (Advanced) — Each block sets its own length (4–16 steps), so odd-length bars are possible. Tempo is now "Speed" (steps per minute), plus per-block color banding to shade every n-th column (can represent bars).
- Smarter jam import — Imported jams now reconcile their jellies against your collection: presets and saved jellies link up, duplicates collapse, and anything new lands on the shelf.
- Unsaved-changes warning — Loading a song from the home screen now warns before discarding unsaved edits, matching the Song Builder.
- Scroll fix — The Sequencer now scrolls as one page in portrait, so the bottom steps are always reachable.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-06-30

- Per-jelly volume & mute — Each jelly now has its own volume slider (0–1.4) and mute toggle in the renamed "Jelly Settings" flyup. Applies to both live playback and WAV export.
- UI polish — Long jelly names wrap instead of overflowing, and chip strips scroll with mouse/trackpad/stylus on desktop web.
