It allows an individual to go at their own pace of learning. In addition, the recording feature is great because it allows you to record both the music and singing and play it back at a later time. ### 5/5 — My 6 and 2 year old loves this app! *2012-03-01, version 1.1* Great app! I asked my 6 year old to review this today and she said "It is super super super fun." Highly recommended! ### 5/5 — Awesome Combination of Direct Instruction and Fun Exploration *2011-10-21* What We Liked: I love the fact that ALL of the big, bold notes in Jellybean Tunes are tappable! They play their proper sounds, are often labeled with their note letters, and really help to develop intuitive associations between note placement and the sound/length etc. the note makes based on its appearance. Even in the music theory lessons, all the notes are tappable to easily compare differences in pitch, differences in note length, and more. The bright colors and playful design make this a uniquely child-friendly music app, many apps that introduce musical notation are a bit bland, but this one has ‘kids like me’ written all over it! My grandparents had a PC-based composition tool when I was a child and I absolutely loved playing with it. This is a touch technology version, but better because it combines the iPad’s recording ability with the wonders of touch screens to produce an educational, enjoyable, and accessible exploration of music for children who are just getting started. What We Didn’t Like: My daughter (8) suggests the addition of an auto-play feature that would play the song without having to tap the notes to hear the music, just so she can listen to it played properly before tackling in it. I’d like to see an option to set up different users so that each of my children could have their own music book filled with their own compositions and recordings of their performances. Overall: Jellybean Tunes is a perfect blend of direct instruction with its simple music theory lessons, creative exploration, and it even helps to develop rhythm and performance skills with the recording features it incorporates. If you hope to introduce your child to simple music theory and the joys of playing with music, this is one app you won’t want to miss! If you simply want to entertain her, buy it. I purchased this app because of the high rating it received from other buyers. Has anyone else noticed that the notes are incorrectly labeled on the treble clef staff? I don't know much about music but, this is something one would have learned in her very first music class in Kindergarten or first grade. ### 2/5 — Jellybean tunes *2014-07-04, version 1.3* This would be a great app if the notes were correctly written on staff...the space notes should fill the space. The flat and sharp signings are not correctly written either. For line note sharps, the center of the sharp sign needs to have the staff line going through it. The lessons are simple and lots of fun, but you should correct the time signatures which are wrong....Itsy bitsy spider should be 6/8. It would be a good idea to get a musician who had studied music theory to help correct the rhythms on Row your boat. I would use this in elementary school music classes if it was corrected. ### 3/5 — Clear introduction to music notation but US terms used *2012-09-30* Quick look at this app shows that while it's nice and slowly paced for young children (with opportunities for interaction) it teaches eighth, quarter beats etc rather than UK system of crotchets quavers etc so doesn't fit in with my child's music lessons. ### 4/5 — Good for learning notes, but not perfect... *2014-10-27, version 1.4.1* ------The good------ Excellent lessons, in fact the best lessons I've ever seen on basic music notation for any age. Easy to create your own music. Cute user interface. ------The bad------ No game to help kids memorize note location. No piano keyboard mappings. After playing a song, it's hard to play it again, as the replay option is the only one presented, and that just plays back your rendition of the song. This problem had my daughter in tears, so I hope it gets fixed in a subsequent release. ### 4/5 — Jellybean tunes *2012-11-28, version 1.2.5* This is a cute app. I love the lessons for slightly older kids who are ready to learn about music as they are simple to understand and follow. They are a little dry for younger children. But I love that kids do not have to go thru the lessons to play the tunes. Kids who just love to play around can go straight to the tunes and start without any lessons or instructions because the app is so simple. The playback feature was a great hit with my kids as they could hear and watch the tune they made by touching the notes. Overall a great little app for beginning musicians! ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Educator’s Helper *2018-05-23, version 1.4.3* This app is wonderful for performance using colored handbells. I connect it to the classroom screen and we play our colored pitched percussion by following songs we created or the ones that are included on the app. If the creator of this app would make it so more than one note could be playing at a time with colors, they could sell it to educators for much more $. Also could change the colors of the colors to the plastic tube colors that would be an enormous seller as well. ### 5/5 — Jellybean tunes! *2012-12-06, version 1.2.5* We just won a code for this. I have two daughter's a 1 year old and 2.5 year old. We've been playing since I got the app and my 2.5 year old loves it her favorite is twinkle little star. I think it would be fun to add what the notes are, maybe have the notes pop like a balloon when you touch them, have different speeds that the song plays on, maybe add some graphics that corresponds to each song. Like a spider going up the spout, rain coming down to make it more interactive for little ones. Fun, app we love it look forward to more songs, holidays, ect... Thank you for creating a fun app. Maybe make this app education like your holiday app teach the different notes, bars I think that would be awesome if you did I know many moms who would purchase if you did that. ### 5/5 — I enjoyed playing this app with my boys! *2012-07-14, version 1.2* This is a GREAT app! It is good for children or even young adults interested in learning about reading or creating sheet music. It has learn, play, and create features that you can explore at your own pace of learning. The app also records voices as you play the music so you and your children can sing along and then listen back.
