### 2/5 — app crash

*2026-06-21*

dear support, please fix - app 2026.6.4 on iOS 16 crashing.

### 3/5 — Updated review

*2026-04-17*

I received email from the developers indicating they had reconsidered their earlier position on grandfathered licenses. Indeed, I redownloaded the app and find that I appear to have access to the pro features again. However, I’ve moved on from Jellycuts and do not intend to reintegrate it back into my workflow. But I want to acknowledge their movement toward setting things right, so I have added two stars back to my previous rating.

Previous review:

Apple actually has Developer Guideline 3.1.2(a) covering the migration of a paid app to a subscription:

“If you are changing your existing app to a subscription-based business model, you should not take away the primary functionality existing users have already paid for. For example, let customers who have already purchased a ‘full game unlock’ continue to access the full game after you introduce a subscription model for new customers.”

The new owners intended to ignore this but grudgingly relented in the most inconvenient and annoying manner, and only after customer pushback. They don’t have a “perpetual license” as claimed on some of the developer responses in these reviews. Instead, they will only provide a 6 month or 1 year coupon for a basic subscription, and “perpetually licensed” users will have to remain vigilant to keep refreshing their subscription by pestering the support staff for new coupons before their previous coupon runs out. When I pointed this out, their “solution” was to send me several coupon codes with onerous terms stating that this was a one-time accommodation, that no additional credits will be provided, and that multiple coupons applied would run concurrently (meaning I have to bank the coupons and remember to apply them every year to avoid a paid subscription kicking in, and my “perpetual license” will no longer be honored). This is breathtakingly bad faith.

Any competent developer could enable checking for the non-consumable pro unlocks already purchased by previous buyers. All they would need to do is reenable the Restore Purchases functionality that they have hidden away and check for it just as they check for an active subscription. This is how a good faith company handles legacy license owners. And in fact, the JellyCuts app STILL (as of this writing) contains those non-consumable lifetime pro unlocks. This can be seen by checking the In-App purchases section below in the Information section. The pro unlocks offered by the previous developer are still there. But their engineers have refused to support any kind of in-app license authentication except subscription (this was confirmed to me in email exchanges with their support team), and Apple only allows max 1 year subscriptions.

There can only be one reason for this: they hope to scrape off difficult-to-refund charges from “perpetual license” users being inattentive to their coupons expiring or fed up with having to work to keep them active.

**Developer response:** We hear you. Especially as an early supporter.

Our goal is to respect what you already paid for while moving the product forward. We haven’t always made that clear.

We’re improving how legacy access works so it’s simple and doesn’t feel like something you have to manage. Restore is back up.

If you’re open to it, reach out at https://www.jellycuts.com/support we’ll take care of you directly.

Thanks for taking the time to say this.

### 3/5 — not good enough

*2026-04-05*

I imported the shortcut. but getting errors.

//Unable to get shortcuts action is.workflow.actions.getcurrentapp
//Unable to get shortcuts action com.apple.ShortcutsActions.GetMultitaskingModeAction
if(Multitasking Mode ==) {
//Unable to get shortcuts action com.apple.ShortcutsActions.SetMultitaskingModeAction
} >> IFResult1

### 4/5 — Had been improved, but …

*2026-04-04*

**Developer response:** Full documentation available on https://docs.Jellycuts.com

### 3/5 — No response

*2025-02-15*

Update: I finally received a one year subscription. Although it took a little while to get a working code, they resolved it. I now look forward to learning the app.
I purchased the one time purchase days before it converted to subscription model. I was sent a code for 6 months free trial but the code was expired. I can’t get a response now. I thought it was supposed to be lifetime and functional. I did send request with email different than Apple ID. Could that have been the problem ?

**Developer response:** Thanks for reaching out, and we’re sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve encountered. We understand how frustrating it can be when things don’t work as expected, especially after you made the one-time purchase.

If the coupon did not work, it was likely a mistake. We'll DM you directly to fix that.

### 2/5 — It’s just not good

*2025-02-13*

I’ll be honest, when I first saw that the new owners of RoutineHub were putting so much weight behind Jellycuts, I couldn’t for the life of me understand why. I still don’t understand it. I don’t understand the need for a website or for the content & blog posts—and especially not the subscription & paywalled content. I mean, does Javascript put out blog posts? How about C++? Go? Ruby? No, of course they don’t—because they’re programming languages. So, taking a programming language like Jelly and turning it into a brand is just a really bizarre choice to me. Aside from that, the app just isn’t very good. The language is limited, and there’s still a lot that it can’t do. Perhaps these things should have been ironed out BEFORE introducing a website, subscription tiers, blog posts, a re-design, etc… 🤔 Of course, that’s not how devs operate in 2024, where it’s more important to create all this superfluous stuff to entice people into buying the software/app rather than finishing the build, squashing the bugs, smoothing the edges, and refining the experience. One reason I was so confused about putting so much weight behind Jelly is because there’s another language for Shortcuts—Cherri—which is vastly superior to Jelly, has a macOS app, and an IDE—all for FREE. No subscriptions. No paywalled content. And the language is more intuitive, easier to understand, and has better documentation! I really don’t know why anyone would support this “open source” project.🤷🏻‍♂️

**Developer response:** We appreciate your honesty and feedback—it’s clear you've put a lot of thought into this. We totally understand your confusion about the direction JellyCuts has taken, and we hear your concerns.

JellyCuts is not an open source app. Maybe you're thinking about OpenJelly.

Jellycuts is a tool that we believe can help people streamline their iOS shortcut development, but we also understand it’s still evolving.

As for the subscription model and content, we hear you. Our goal is to build something that feels valuable and sustainable, but we’re committed to making sure it doesn’t overshadow the core functionality of the app.

We also love that you mentioned Cherri—competition helps push all of us to improve, and we’re definitely taking notes. We are big fans of Cherri and appreciate everything they're doing for the community.

Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback.

### 1/5 — So much for that “Immortal” Jellyfish Pro purchase

*2025-02-10*

Like others I bought the lifetime pro version of the app with a one-time in-app purchase. This was back in Feb 2023 prior to the app being acquired by new developers. It seemed like a cool project & I wanted to make a small contribution to support it. Now the app has been converted to a tiered subscription model & it’s hard to see any value in terms of the features vs price. The new owner was giving codes for the most basic tier for those who bought before the subscription but has become unresponsive.

There’s a recent review by Mr. T Wrecks that perfectly sums up all the current problems with this app & why its future is bleak—definitely worth reading. The tl;dr of it all is this: this app simply isn’t worth bothering with anymore. Don’t waste your time.

**Developer response:** We get it—you bought in, the app changed, and now it feels like getting a house with no roof. Totally frustrating.

Apologies for the silence. We’re actively working on fixing things, and we’ve already made sure you’ll get a perpetual coupon for Jellycuts Basic. The Basic Tier offers the same access you’ve always had, so you’re all set.

Thanks for your patience—feel free to reach out if you need anything else!

### 1/5 — IOS 18 ?

*2025-01-31*

I bought it – why does it only go up to iOS 15?

**Developer response:** Earlier versions supported older iOS to keep things working for long-time users. We’ve since shifted to focusing on newer iOS versions so we can keep improving the app.

Appreciate you flagging this.

### 2/5 — Useful app but a few complaints

*2024-11-17, version 2.4.3*

This app is extremely useful for coding Apple iOS shortcuts, and it works and is proven to work. There are even hidden actions you can use. But, there are some very annoying restrictions unless you pay, like you have to go in documentation and they won’t give you a native icon selector unless you pay, and customization like app icons and editors are limited to Main, Dark, and Tinted, and across app database storage, and you can’t change the targeted iOS version, and you can’t use the visual studio macOS bridge.

I recommend this app

### 3/5 — Surely great but doesn't work...

*2024-09-02*

Doesn't work for me. iOS 17.6.1.
Didn't know how to export a Shortcut thus clicked on the "Share" icon in the top right. Then a pop-up appeared displaying "Signing" which takes quite long followed by a "Signing failed" pop-up message that contains some html code.

Would be great if written Shortcuts could be exported without signing as 100% of my Shortcuts are shared locally without signing when creating them using the Shortcuts app.

Not even the Jellycuts Helper Shortcut works as most of the settings display a "File not found" error and "The runner quit unexpectedly."

**Developer response:** We’ve resolved the signing issue. Try publishing your Jelly file as a Shortcut and it should work.

Regarding unsigned shortcuts, iOS does not support them, and we adhere to Apple's security policies by providing signed shortcuts.

If you’re experiencing any issues with JellyCuts, please send a video or screenshot to support@jellycuts.com, and we’ll address it promptly.

### 1/5 — The new app owners are scammers

*2024-08-29*

They’re quitting the licenses from the existing users to force them to spend again on their new in-app system. Shame on you SCAMMERS!

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We want to reassure our loyal users that we value your support. If you previously purchased Jellycuts, you're entitled to a complimentary lifetime subscription to our Pro Basic plan. Simply email support@jellycuts.com with your proof of purchase, and we'll promptly send you a coupon for full access at no additional cost. Thank you for being a part of our community.

### 1/5 — New owner is awful!

*2024-08-28*

The app used to have 'buy once' IAP. New owner changes it to monthly IAP. New owner refuses to honor the 'buy once' purchases. New owner writes a blog post about the pricing changes and then, when I give critique about the lack of grandfathering, he takes the blog post down! Zero trust. None whatsoever.

### 1/5 — Bad app

*2024-02-03*

I can’t even Export anything I make in Jellycuts it just says failed to export cought before error or Somthing stupid about my internet

**Developer response:** We’ve fixed that bug in v1.4.6. Thank you for your support.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Just paid $20 and shortcuts aren’t able to be imported?

*2026-06-03*

I just paid for this. You can’t export any of your shortcuts into the shortcuts app because they don’t allow unsigned shortcuts anymore. I shouldn’t have to develop my own workaround. Please update your app and retune my $

### 1/5 — Won’t open

*2026-04-27*

Not trying to bring your rating down or whatever, but it literally crashes right away. iPhone 15 iOS 18.7.2. Hope this helps you fix whatever bug this is.

**Developer response:** Well take a look. You can always request support by emailing support@jellycuts.com

### 1/5 — После обновления не запускается (((

*2026-04-01*

Версия 2.6.4 работала отлично. Криворукие разработчики сломали приложение (((

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear that. Feel free to send a support request to https://jellycuts.com/support.

### 1/5 — Hasn’t worked for years

*2026-02-23*

This app was really amazing at first, but after offloading it, once I re-downloaded it… It stopped working completely. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled countless times and I still cannot get this app to work.

**Developer response:** thanks for sticking with us, even after all that frustration. That’s a rough experience, and we hear you.

We’ve made several improvements since then, especially around reinstall/offload issues like the one you described. Fingers crossed it’s now behaving the way it should.

If it’s still giving you trouble, we’d really like to help you get it working properly. You can reach us directly at https://www.jellycuts.com/support and we’ll dig in with you.

Appreciate you giving JellyCuts a shot.

### 1/5 — I've paid for an error message...

*2026-01-18, version 2.4.4*

I love the concept so decided to give it a try and take the basic membership. In the membership tiers page it states (paraphrasing) they all give the same outcome, so I thought to take basic and try it. Nothing works. Anything I compile leads to a broken code error message. I've contacted support. Crickets. Now sending this review in the hopes I'll get a reply and can try the service. Otherwise thanks for a Sterling example of broken, and a Magnum Opus of customer service firewalls (why am I creating a GitHub account to register bugs). 💔

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2025-07-12*

Just says meta.json can't be opened for everything

**Developer response:** We spent a lot of cycles trying to detect and fix this problem. We (think) we’ve squashed it with this latest version.

### 1/5 — Masterclass in how to tank a good product

*2025-04-03*

Your early supporters are gold, don’t disrespect them. Don’t bother offering me a subscription coupon, I don’t want to have to worry about coupons every year.

**Developer response:** You’re right. Early supporters matter, a lot. And we didn’t get everything right.

We hear you on the subscription and the frustration around feeling like you’d have to keep chasing coupons. That’s not the experience we want to create but it took us a while to integrate the app and coupon was the fastest fix.

We’ve been working to make things simpler and more respectful for the people who backed us early. The “Restore” option is back up.

Appreciate you saying this plainly.

### 1/5 — Lost to the dark side

*2025-03-21*

That other reviewer’s point about the Apple guideline is eye-opening. I won’t support a company that claws back features I paid for. I urge every user who feels the same to write a review saying so.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

Implement the pro unlock I paid for and I’ll be back to change my rating from 1 star to the 5 I gave it previously

### 5/5 — A Titans Tool for the Tinkerers

*2026-03-21, version 2.6.3*

Jellycuts is hands-down one of the most exciting tools for anyone serious about Apple Shortcuts. It turns complex automation into something faster, cleaner, and far more powerful, with a coding-style approach that still feels accessible and fun. Writing shortcuts this way saves time, improves structure, and makes larger projects much easier to build, troubleshoot, and maintain. It bridges the gap between visual automation and real development beautifully. For power users, tinkerers, and anyone who wants to push Shortcuts beyond its usual limits, Jellycuts feels like unlocking a whole new level. Brilliant concept, fantastic execution, and genuinely useful every day too.

### 5/5 — New owner is trustworthy!

*2024-08-30*

UPDATE: I'm happy to hear that the new owner of this app will honor past purchases -- those occurring back when the app had 'buy once' IAP rather than the current subscription model. This course of action is the right thing for the new owner to do. And, for me, it breeds trust. Give the app a try!
