## What is JellyDazzle?

JellyDazzle turns your iPhone or iPad into a kaleidoscope that listens to your music and dances for you. its Amazing.

Put on a song — from Spotify, Apple Music, a speaker across the room, a band in a bar — and the patterns move with it. JellyDazzle listens through the microphone, so your music keeps playing at full volume while the colors fold into symmetry and unfold again. No loops, no presets, no two sessions alike.

Made for the way you actually use a phone:
• On battery it runs in Lite — a softer picture at 30 frames a second, so it can play through an album without draining you dry.
• Plug it in and it becomes full JellyDazzle — native resolution, 60 frames a second, every layer.
• Low Power Mode or a warm phone? It drops to Lite on its own and comes back when things cool down. No settings, no restart — it changes mid-show.

Touch it:
• C, S and ? buttons sit quietly in the corner — new colors, new shapes, and help
• Or just tap anywhere for new colors, use two fingers for new shapes, and press and hold for what's playing

A love letter to DAZZLE.EXE (James R. Shiflett, 1990), rebuilt for Apple silicon: 24 engine modes in hand-written ARM64 assembly and more than 600 patterns in C, now including creatures and fractals — the same engine on Mac, iPhone and iPad.

Private by design: the microphone only feeds the beat detector, in memory. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent anywhere — JellyDazzle doesn't even use the network.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 3.6.6 — 2026-10-13

Four new fractals — and see the beat.

• Neon Mandelbrot: the edge of the Mandelbrot set drawn as glowing filaments — snowflakes, seahorse spirals and minibrot chains, diving and drifting.
• Nova: spiral basins where Newton meets Mandelbrot, with island chains of fine filigree.
• Multibrot bloom: the Mandelbrot set grows extra folds and back again — a flower opening and closing.
• Clifford silk: strange attractors woven like silk, every strand coloured by the way it moves.
• New M button: the beat meter on screen — bass, mid, treble and a dot that flashes on every beat.
• The bar is now C · S · M · ? — colour, shape, meter, about.
• Every background now slowly zooms and turns; some used to sit still.
• Less repetition: the same kind of shape no longer comes straight back.
• 60+ patterns that used to look identical each time now vary.
• The About card is the same size in portrait and landscape.

### 3.6.4 — 2026-10-13

Deeper, smoother, never the same twice.

• Depth: layers drift in from the distance and float toward you, with gentle parallax — it feels like being inside the kaleidoscope.
• Fractals now flow: they evolve continuously instead of flickering as they redraw.
• Backgrounds move: slow zoom and turn behind every scene.
• 22 more patterns now appear — creatures (cats, dogs, butterflies, turtles…) and fractals (Julia, Phoenix, Sierpinski, Lyapunov…).
• Every launch opens on fresh shapes and fresh colours.
• Patterns that used to look the same each time now vary in shape and follow your colours.
• The About card shows which button does what: C colour, S shape, ? about.
• First launch measures the new library once; the card shows real progress.

### 3.5.9 — 2026-10-10

Version 3.5.9 is about variety — more to see, and more of it you can name.

• Creatures. Eighteen new animals swim, fly, crawl and prowl through the show: jellyfish, a great whale, a school of fish, manta rays, an octopus, seahorses, krill, a sea turtle and a squid; a starling murmuration, butterflies, beetles, an ant trail, a cat, a dog, dragonflies, moths and crabs. Each one moves the way the real animal does — the cat prowls, the dog gallops, the beetles walk on a proper tripod gait.

• Ten new fractals: a breathing Julia set, a Burning Ship dive, Newton basins, the Phoenix and Tricorn sets, an Apollonian gasket, a fern that grows as you watch, a folding dragon curve, Sierpinski rain and a Lyapunov zoom — all built light enough to run smoothly on iPhone and iPad.

• Livelier on battery. In Lite mode JellyDazzle was turning away layers it actually had room for. On battery it now draws a fuller, deeper show, at the same frame rate.

• 638 routines in all.

As always: put some music on first.
