## What is Jellyfin & SMB Video Player?

BEFORE YOU BUY
• Needs your own Jellyfin server or an SMB/NAS share on your network. No content is included and no Plex, Emby or Kodi support.
• Plays the files you already own (MKV, MP4, M4V, MOV). 4K HDR10 films play through the Apple TV's native player with their HDR metadata; Dolby Digital Plus and Atmos tracks are handed to it unchanged. DTS and TrueHD are decoded on the Apple TV itself: no bitstream passthrough, as on every Apple TV.
• The Apple TV and the server should be on the same network. Remote servers need a reachable address.

Jellyfin & SMB Video Player turns your Apple TV, iPhone or iPad into a premium home cinema for the movies and shows you already own — streamed straight from your Jellyfin server or any SMB/NAS share on your network.

Pay once and own it. No subscription, no recurring fees — ever.

• JELLYFIN & SMB / NAS — Connect a Jellyfin server or browse an SMB share, the standard most NAS boxes, Macs and PCs already offer. Your library, your way.

• PICTURE & SOUND — 4K HDR10 through the Apple TV's native player, Dolby Digital Plus and Atmos handed to your sound system unchanged, DTS and TrueHD decoded on the box, with a smart engine (native playback + on-the-fly remux) so your MKV files just play.

• RICH, RELIABLE METADATA — Gorgeous posters, backdrops, cast and overviews from TMDB, a cinematic detail screen, and quality badges (4K, HDR, Atmos) at a glance.

• EVERYTHING ORGANIZED — Movies and TV, seasons and episodes, Continue Watching, sort, hide-watched, and accurate resume.

• SUBTITLES — Download subtitles on demand from OpenSubtitles in your languages and switch subtitles during playback; the right audio track is chosen for you.

• PRIVATE BY DESIGN — Connects only to the servers and shares you configure, directly — never through us. No ads. No tracking. No data collected. Credentials are stored securely in the Apple Keychain.

A one-time purchase unlocks everything, with Family Sharing. All updates within this major version are included.

Requires your own Jellyfin server or SMB/NAS media. Apple TV 4K recommended for 4K HDR and Atmos.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.0.2 — 2026-10-22

Faster, more reliable playback of MKV films from Jellyfin and SMB libraries: quicker starts, the right audio track and subtitles chosen automatically, and smoother resume.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-10-17

Playback fixes from a device-measured audit:
• MKV files now start at the very beginning on fast networks (they could skip the opening minutes).
• MKVs with FLAC, Opus or MP3 audio play with sound.
• Embedded SRT/ASS subtitles are shown and selectable; forced subtitles switch on automatically.
• The right audio track is chosen: the film's language, Dolby Atmos first, commentary tracks skipped.
• Films with TrueHD or DTS plus a Dolby Digital Plus track now use the native player (faster start, HDR kept).
• Resuming shows the film's real time and you can scrub back to the start.
• If native playback fails, the VLC engine takes over automatically.
• iPhone: Jellyfin MKVs play through the native player on Wi-Fi; HDR10 no longer freezes.

### 1.0 — 2026-09-23
