Seriously considering non-renewal next expiration date. Sure your charts are better than govt charts but the app really could benefit from AMM and turbulence/ weather overlays like the airlines get with FD Pro. ### 3/5 — Don’t get to comfy *2020-01-05, version 3.0.4* I love Jeppesen. I love the story behind it...if you haven’t read “Jepp” do so....it’s a great very short read. As is the story of Flight Safety. As a pilot, the mark of a an excellent company that sacrifices zero safety, is the one that furnishes each and every one of their pilots with their own subscription of Jeppesen. This allows them to begin the preparation even before they get to the airplane. And keep up with changes to frequented airports. I have to preface the next by saying I would never fly without Jeppesen charts....ever. My wish list. 1.)More “saved flights”. A minimum of 20 saved flights. Preferably 30, and a method of placing them in our own order. 2.) Allow certain symbols to be selected on the 10-9, 10-9a, Departure Diagram, Arrival Diagram. Preferably red, so that you can add outages and closures to your briefings. I can list a few more...but I’m sure the first two will be difficult enough to program. I’ll close by thanking Elry for his endless commitment to precision measurement and data collection. A true pioneer of aviation. 10 bucks says half the flights he did measuring his first charts were in a Boeing Stearman.....Good match. ### 3/5 — Love it but need more updates *2019-10-03, version 3.0.3* The app works fine, smooth. The only thing is that they haven’t updated the app to add features like the most wanted in app subscription purchases and invert flight plan. Hope they do it soon ### 2/5 — Airway Manuals Format *2019-05-24, version 3.0.3* Used to be able to view them as a pdf which was great. Now, it is almost impossible to find what you are looking for using the pubs button. Bring back the pdf option. ### 2/5 — Unbelievably slow *2017-04-09, version 2.9.1* I really want this app to work and be great, but unfortunately it isn't. Slow isn't even a good word.... Glacial? it takes seconds to respond to any gesture on my mini. I don't want to say this, but I'm just about ready to abandon this app and jepp charts in the process. It's a matter of how much pain you want to accept. Fix this jepp! The one app that I have that crashes and freezes is this one. How has this app been approved? It's dangerous when I am flying an approach and the program crashes and won't reopen. This needs to be fixed ASAP. ~Gulfstream Captain ### 2/5 — SHOULD be MUCH better *2015-10-16, version 2.6.1* Let me start by saying I love Jepp charts…as a professional pilot…there isn’t anything better! I’ve been using Jepp charts for a long time. However, ever since switching to a paperless cockpit, Jepp has disappointed me. They don’t listen to the consumer, and in that regard Foreflight is HEADs and TAILs above and beyond with their product. The ease of entering routes in foreflight is just ONE of the things Jepp could learn from them. I honestly could say so much here…but seeing an average of 1.5 stars out of 5 on the reviews should say something. We pay a lot of money for this program, and have for many, many years. I honestly think that is about to change. The latest issue I have is I’ve updated to iOS 9.0.2 and the app crashes. Whoever Jepp thinks “love” this product…they are sorely mistaken. Captain - Lear 45. ### 2/5 — Glitch when connected to wifi without Internet connection *2015-09-05, version 2.6.1* The app will not operate when the internet connection is disabled for the aircraft below 10,000'. The only work around is to turn your wifi signal off and then re-open the app. Otherwise everything works nearly flawless. I can't understand how this glitch hasn't been corrected for so long. It is a tedious process to turn it on in order to use the weather capabilities and then turn it back off again when you need to use the charts. Because this is often done during the approach phase, it can make for unsafe conditions when flight performance is most critical. ### 2/5 — Good plates, bad App *2014-06-03, version 2.1.2* This product is a huge let down. I've always been a fan of Jeppesen plates. In 2006 I stopped using Jeppesen in favor of NACO TERPs for price alone. With the advent of Foreflight, I've seen electronic navigation data go from slightly useful to outright essential (with ADS-B, FBO info, user friendly flight planning). I started using Jepps again this last year as a company requirement to teach with these. I was severely disappointed with the app quality, despite the wonderful plates. Enroute charts are grainy, clunky, and severely lacking the detail that paper charts readily give. Jeppesen needs to get out of this business to focus on what they do best, database NAV, and sell product rights to a more established provider of EFBs. This app is simply too subpar. ### 2/5 — Missed approach *2012-11-27, version v 2.0* Jeppesen missed again. It is hard for me to believe that a company that had a monopoly in the chart business cannot get it right. Specifically: 1.No loading of complete SIDS and Stars, just the first fix. What good is that? 2. No route reversal button. Not a big deal, but did you ever think that someone would fly to an airport, then return home later? 3. "No chart exists for ----". (Sometimes) You have to exit route airports and go to all airports to find the chart. 4. Crashes frequently. 5. Bad data in an update that removed all charts. I had to remove the app, re-install, then do a new update. Would have been disastrous in flight. But I guess all these electronic charts require a preflight check, especially this one. I have used Jepp charts as a professional pilot for over 30 years, and I will make this prediction: In 10 years, Jeppesen will only be a VERY minor player in the chart business. Somebody else will provide this service with better features, better reliability, and a better price. ### 2/5 — Good but not great - bring back favorites *2012-11-13, version v 2.0* Like everyone has mentioned, it is a nice attempt at updating the older version (which Jepp needs to do way more frequently to keep up with ForeFlight). There are many issues that need to be corrected and it really does feel like a bunch of guys behind a computer designed this update while ForeFlight uses actual pilots to help. Cons: - the favorites is gone (this is a huge time savor and a safety issue and neesd to be brought back. Not having this is the equivalent of having the entire Jepp paper binder laying on your lap and having to open it every time you want a new chart and dig through to find it) - the new sidebar is much slower when switching between plates and sometimes freezes for way to long. - the weather is good in theory, but they need to take pointers from ForeFight to improve it. Takes way to long to load up. Even though I only had "echo tops" selected, it wants to load up EVERYTHING.. I.e. icing, surface reports, turbulence, etc. and the color shading in the radar was completely off the one time I could get it to load. - sidebar takes up too much real estate. It was better when it all just blended in at the bottom. I've lost an inch of viewing space on the left because if it Pros: - it has potential. Please spend some money to bring in pilots that use this on a daily basis to update this version. ### 3/5 — Good update BUT.... *2012-11-08, version v 2.0* As a commercial pilot for a major airline, this latest version is a much improvement over the previous one. The maps are now very legible when zoomed in allowing me to read the plates without wearing reading glasses. This is very valuable when taxiing a large aircraft on the tarmac. Also, the ability to pull up charts more quickly between phases of flights is a welcomed improvement. I like the highlighter option hidden on the right side. The weather update push tile was a good addition as well... The BUTS... 1) Even though I show an Internet connection on either Wi-Fi or cellular, the weather will not update and states that I need an internet connection (a definite bug fix). 2) The left hand dock should disappear to reduce screen clutter. Make this an option. 3) The iPad is a wonderful tool using hand gestures. Make use of these to invoke a better user experience. 4) The route page is still clunky and frustrating to use to plot your route. Please improve on your next update. 5) Please improve the dimming scale. Thanks for the better app, but it still has room for improvement. Much more useable but could be better. ### 1/5 — Features removed *2012-11-08, version v 2.0* Favorites have been removed. There is no longer any way to preselect commonly used airports and the charts you normally use and save them for future access. If you have a multi leg day, there is no way to select the airports and charts you will need ahead of time. The only way is to enter a departure airport and arrival airport and preselect the charts you want. When you enter the next flight's departure and arrival airports you lose the previous entries. If you search for an airport that you are not entering for departure or arrival and select the charts, then search for another airport, you lose the previously selected airport info. This has just made the app exceptionally cumbersome to use - not something we want in the cockpit. We have been using the app in our Falcon 2000 since it was available and it has been great, but it has taken a giant leap backwards. Think twice before you upgrade to the new version. Tried reinstalling and still crashes. Please fix ASAP as I have no charts. ### 1/5 — Keeps asking to accept Terms & Conditions *2015-12-03, version 2.7.0* Every time I open the app, the app asks me to accept the Terms and Conditions before I can do anything else. This is very discerning when I am trying to get airport information before we start our descent into the airport environment. I also agree with others that it takes forever to even load. I am sick of seeing that loading 'circle' everytime I need information. The other problem is that it erases all of my information that I input into the flight plan section of the app. So when I go to check waypoints or I need flight plan information, when I reopen the app, the flight plan info, airports, routs, waypoints, are gone. Dear Jepp: I hope you are reading these feedbacks from your loyal customers who are paying a very pretty penny for your service. This app has a long way to go, especially since it is used extensively in a professional atmosphere. The problems people are having increases workload in the flight deck when it does not need to be that way. ### 1/5 — 2.7 update drains iPad at alarming rate. *2015-11-06, version 2.7.0* The latest update has not worked since we've downloaded it, which wiped out everything. After two days of downloading and going back and reconfiguring everything to pre-update configuration, the app continues to run some sort of download process continuously. I have a brand new IPad Mini, it has drained the battery 6% in less than 15min. No Bluetooth running, no other apps running. I was told there are no other reports of this, except for my two and the one actually belonging to a tech support person AT JEPPESEN. I was pretty much told too bad. Absolutely terrible support. This app is essentially useless in a professional environment as it is now. ### 1/5 — Sorry *2015-10-21, version 2.6.1* I have discontinued using this app along with all Jeppesen products. I fly in the Middle East and have twice purchased and downloaded a Trip Kit from Jeppesen which covered the area I currently fly. Shortly after the charts expired Jeppesen put out an app update which entirely erased my Trip Kit. I called and spoke with a sales representative for Jeppesen who indicated that unfortunately this is what happens when an update is loaded and there was nothing that could be done except to purchase another kit. After losing the second Trip Kit I have completely done away with Jeppesen and now get charts from the countries AIP. It was slow to download and a very poor representation of a fine product. I now use Foreflight where I can in the Middle East and piece together information from other sources to make it work. Your app is doing more damage to your company than you apparently know or you would have done something about these complaints. ### 1/5 — Caution to anyone considering or using this app! *2014-10-03, version 2.6.0* I am very disappointed with such a slow response to updating their apps for iOS 8. Not to mention the extremely poor customer support. It feels as if Jeppessen has now grown to a size where customer service and product quality has fallen off a cliff. When the app works, it is average at best. Other similar apps do a much better job with updates, color graphics, etc. This is such a disappointment since I've grown to love the format of their charts and plates. My advice is try another service until Jeppessen gets their act together, which by the looks of it, isn't any time soon. Just take a look at their support page to see how difficult it is to submit a problem. ### 1/5 — This app is crap! *2014-08-08, version 2.6.0* I don't know what happened with Apple's quality control and quality assurance, because if they compared the old version of this app to this new one, I'm sure they would have not approved it for distribution. All I know is that Jeppesen has really screwed up a perfectly functional app with this glitchy, slow, defective and buggy "new and improved" app. To start off, I'd like to alert other users to avoid upgrading your mobile flight deck with this garbage at all cost. This new app is extremely slow to open, it's extremely slow to multi task with, it's extremely slow to update its database, maps and manuals and it's extremely slow to open your previously stored flights. The new map looks like crap. Now, you can only see the airway name if you zoom in very close to the ground. Jepessen, please, fix this app once and for all! Updating the app's database is absurdely slow and it never completes the update even on a 30Mbps cable connection! I want the old app back! ### 1/5 — Crashes more than functions properly. Dangerous! *2014-06-23, version 2.1.2* We use FD on our iPad minis on our G550 as a backup or to augment our display unit charts and it's the most unstable app I have ever seen. "Normal" mode is locking up and/or crashing. Attempts to restart app, reboot iPad, turn on/off airplane mode (disabling ownship position), turn on/off wifi - all occasionally effective. This is the ONLY app we use that crashes MORE than functions properly AND it's the most critical. If we have a failure and are flying on batteries, and I can't even use this app to land safely, then what? Accident waiting to happen. We pay Jeppesen tens of thousands of $ a year and they can't even build a stable app. The FAA needs to shut this down. ### 1/5 — Jeppesen is not serious *2014-06-15, version 2.1.2* ...about developing this app. This app to furnished to me by my company, and I pay for Foreflight out of my own pocket. There is no comparison between the two. JFD is slow, crashes regularly, and is bereft of features. Seriously. No bells and whistles. The ONLY thing it has going for it is the actual Jeppesen plates and charts, and the fact that the plates are displayed as vector graphics vs. scans. Anything else.. Weather depiction, FBO information, user reviews, etc. Jepp is soundly beaten by Foreflight or doesn't even attempt. The app beats doing Jepp revisions by hand, I'll give it that too. Seriously, Jepp/Boeing. Hire some developers to improve your product or license your data to Foreflight. ### 1/5 — Epic Fail *2014-01-05, version 2.1.2* Captain, it is time to forge a deal to sell your data through ForeFlight. They have developers who have the ability to use that data in a safe and effective manner, presenting it reliably during all phases of flight. YOU DO NOT. Just think of the enormous sums of money you could save by not paying what appear to be unearned salaries, or, more appropriately, stipends in support of negligent behavior. Shame on you for putting out such a product, and shame on our regulatory authorities for standing idly by while you endanger the lives of the traveling public with this buggy and unreliable piece of refuse. Were it not for your monopoly on navigation data for areas other than the US and Canada, I wouldn't even be writing this review, because you'd be only the distant memory of an archaic system of aeronautical charting which had been relegated to the some dark corner of a dank, moldy basement. Too bad zero stars isn't an option, because even at that my rating would be overly generous... ### 1/5 — Unacceptably buggy and unstable *2013-10-22, version v 2.1.0* This application is very buggy and unacceptably unstable for in-flight use: - It continuously crashes and often locks up for ~15 seconds at a time. - With "Show Taxi On Landing" enabled, the application randomly switches over to the taxi diagram. - Chart annotation persistence is unpredictable: I will sometimes see annotations I made on one chart appear on a completely unrelated chart. - GPS position on charts will sometimes disappear when switching to other views and then returning. (This is unrelated to GPS fix quality, and reselecting the chart will usually fix the problem.) - The enroute maps are almost unusable at normal zoom levels and do not contain all of the information required to replace paper enroute charts. - Selecting items on the enroute chart is an exercise in frustration: it can take several attempts to get it to show you airspace details instead of prompting you to add a new waypoint. …the list goes on. Although I much prefer Jeppesen's high-quality charts to the government plates, they are way behind the curve in implementing an acceptable EFB solution for this platform. When compared to applications like ForeFlight and Garmin Pilot, the quality of Jeppesen's releases is simply embarrassing. I would prefer to see their charts incorporated into one of these mature programs, but both Garmin and ForeFlight have both indicated that they have no plans to work out such an arrangement with Jeppesen in the near future. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — About time *2013-05-18, version v 2.0.6* We are about to finish limited line testing using this at the little blue "chicken" I love the App. It has been working flawlessly for me from day 1, I have a 4G LTE model iPad and it updates on the go in a matter of seconds, the only complaint or "request" that I might have is a way to "ADD TEXT" Like you can using "Good reader" for example, it will be very handy to be able to make a note of Ops Frequencies and gate notes in regards to the airport you are flying to. ### 5/5 — Works for me *2012-04-26, version v 1.1.0* I've been using this app (and the TC app) since day one. Original versions had some stability issues but I haven't had any problems with this one or the previous one. I haven't experienced any of the downloading problems or crashes during use others have mentioned here. OSP display on SIDS/stars is never going to happen because those charts are not geo-ref scaled. Commercial and airline users are prohibited from using OSP while airborne so that shouldn't be an issue of discussion. I believe the OSP available now is a prelude to the upcoming release of real time WX display on the enroute charts. For the time being, since one isn't supposed to be using it for navigation purposes, it's just a toy. ### 5/5 — Internationally Awesome! *2011-08-11, version V 1.0.0* The first and at present only electronic flight bag which provides coverage of the WHOLE WORLD versus just the United States. Very important for international aircrew. Also- when the charts orient "track up," the words stay oriented to the reader. No swapping to "north up" just to keep from reading upside-down, simple geo-referenced paper. And it is seamless. Sure, a ADS B-in or XM weather live feed would be a great overlay, but for right now it does exactly what it intended---provides a professional pilot a fast, lightweight, reliable publication, navigation and approach chart set that completes a paperless transition. Well done. ### 4/5 — Game changer *2018-08-20, version 2.9.1* Introduced into our 121 operation 4 years ago. Slowdowns observed if multiple apps are left running in the background. Simple policy change was implemented not to leave apps running when not used; haven’t had performance issues since. ### 4/5 — Better than previous *2013-11-14, version 2.1.2* This is the best FD version yet (ref. iPad 2, 3, non-iOS 7), and the user interface, particularly for terminal charts, is getting to where it needs to be. Terminal chart selection has been much improved and is not as cumbersome as it was before. Switching between plates (two finger swipe) is easy now. Enroute however is still clunky, slow, and frustrating. Other than choosing the route airports for the terminal charts, it's not worth using. For those that want Jepp charts in Foreflight (the gold standard, against which all others *should* be measured), they are fundamentally incompatible as Jepp charts are rendered (dynamically drawn/created for the view you select) and Foreflight charts are complete images (pdf's?). That's why Foreflight uses gobs of memory and Jepp does not.... Jepp: How about 'Up One' and 'Reverse' buttons next to the Origin, and Destination airport fields in Enroute? 'Up One' would delete the Origin airport and move the Destination airport into the origin field. Yes, I know the iPad is portable, but I would venture that most pilots will fly their next leg from the arrival airport of the previous leg. That would save some deleting and typing steps when loading the next leg... ### 4/5 — Getting Closer to Sole App *2013-09-23, version v 2.1.0* I am very pleased with the new geo-ref feature on approach charts and ability to 2-finger swipe between plates - navigating between plates was a problem in the past. I pay a lot for the charts and plates subscription for my Cirrus, and Jepp is making good progress on what should be my only aviation iPad app. Enroute charts still need work as the data-driven info provided is not always what I need - for instance I should not have to zoom all the way in or pull up a sub-menu to get a VOR frequency....but I am pleased that this product is receiving ongoing attention. It could and should be the optimal gateway to all the great Jepp plates and charts. ### 4/5 — Behind still *2012-11-27, version v 2.0* Its nice to have all the charts and manuals with easy updates. That said... I find the enroute chart hard to use and slow. You have to fine tune the mag so see what level will show frequencies etc. which can vanish as you zoom out. And the text does not enlarge... only the graphics zoom. Foreflight and flightguide area charts and ifr low are just easier. Also, the lack of georef approach charts is really inexcusable. This has been the big problem with jep since the beginning. ### 4/5 — No crashing on iPad 4! *2012-11-10, version v 2.0* Had frequent app crashes on iPad2, due to what diagnostics calls insufficient memory. So upgraded to iPad 4 and FD version 2, and no more crashes. Presentation is much better, especially with the new night view and weather additions. However, the selection column on the left side is hard to see in the day, even with brightness at max setting and sunglasses off. Suggest you make this easier to see and add Notams, Metars, and (Radar in foreign countries) and you have 5 stars. This app has a future in aviation and is here to stay I hope. ### 4/5 — Some problems noted could be iPad related *2012-05-07, version v 1.1.0* Reading the reviews I think someone should point out that some of the desired functionalities are not available in mobile fd due to FAA restrictions imposed on Jeppesen. Also, using the internal GPS alone is not recommended as this is only an 'enhanced' GPS receiver designed to work on the ground, a dedicated GPS receiver is necessary for full performance. The iPad does not multitask well and ALL apps running in the background should be closed for mobile fd to work well. You can do this by double clicking the home button to show all apps running, hold one down for a second or two to create the 'jiggle' and then close them all with the red - The ability to pull up terminal procedures in a flash rather than digging through volumes of manuals is worth the price of entry alone! Also, there is a night mode. In Settings>General>Accessibility set your iPad for reverse black and white with home button triple click. I'm a bit worried about sharing the skies with some of you folks. Do a little research, it's not rocket science. ### 4/5 — Jepp FD better replacement but still can't print plates *2011-10-30, version v 1.0.2* Jeppesen Mobile FD certainly is a superset to the previous Jepp TC app and can do a lot more. Overall, I like it, but it still has one huge shortcoming: printing. I know that iOS certainly hasn't stepped up and fixed printing from the iPad yet, but that shouldn't stop Jeppesen. You can certainly print to a PDF and there are lots of file sharing programs that can then transfer that PDF back to your laptop for printing. Almost every pilot I know, still wants to have some printed plates as backup (at least origin, destination and planned alternate) before they leave.
