### 4/5 — MIDI Control yes please

*2012-09-08*

Let me add my vote to those requesting MIDI control. Please! The samples sound beautiful and the velocity response is ice. The note layout is a bit of a hindrance for use.

### 4/5 — Very nice.

I know it is unlikely to happen but adding Midi would really put the cherry on it.

### 1/5 — Mrs

*2018-03-11, version 1.02*

Really disappointed. Limited to just one track. No options to save as MP3 or import into other iPad apps. Don't see how you can save as a ringtone as stated. Don't waste your money!

### 1/5 — Crap

*2013-10-02*

Not fun as an oddity or useful as an instrument. Waste of money.

### 2/5 — Unfulfilled potential

*2015-11-26*

John Cage's prepared piano sounds are inspirational, but this app offers no way to use them with other iPad music apps.

If the developers added midi and inter app audio support, my rating would be much higher. More in-app text about Cage and his method would be a great addition, too.

There is so much this app could offer users to do and learn. As it stands, John Cage Prepared Piano is neither useful for composition or recording nor is it especially educational.

### 2/5 — Very disappointing

*2012-11-12, version 1.0*

Very disappointing. I assumed the idea was to provide a piano layout which could be played on-screen and hopefully via MIDI, truly providing an interesting performance instrument.

Instead we're offered a set of touch pads with a very limited choice of sampled sounds.

There's great scope for a true prepared piano instrument on the iPad, but this isn't it.

### 2/5 — nette Spielerei, wenig ergiebig!

*2012-09-01, version 1.0*

### 3/5 — John started it all

*2014-10-29*

This app offers a very straight forward look into the prepared piano that John pioneered . Now it's time to make this a full on instrument unto it's self so give us a sample option as well as a pattern sequencer that can quantize these noises and organize them into songs and then send them to anything else as an inter app player . It's time! Please! Peace Christo

### 3/5 — An interesting sample pad...

*2012-09-11, version 1.0*

A fantastic idea, but limited in its applications because of the small number of samples. I would love to see the full range of the piano included, as well as some degree of touch sensitive velocity or dynamics. As is, you can hear some nice samples of prepared notes, but you can't really play 'musically'

### 3/5 — ganz nett

*2012-09-02, version 1.0*

### 4/5 — The sound is accurate but…

*2023-01-09*

I wish it had MIDI capabilities. It is the only downside for me. I wish i could play without hving to touch the iPad.
Other than that, the sound is accurate.

### 4/5 — Fun App, just needs tweak

*2014-03-18*

This app captures the essence of Cage, however like ALL audio apps, it MUST be Audiobus compatible to make it relevant. It would be so much fun to incorporate Cage like sounds and textures into any recording stream. Please make this more than just a stand alone app. You'll sell more apps!

## Most praised reviews (8 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Que du plaisir

*2024-07-18*

Merci

### 5/5 — Just one issue

*2022-04-02*

I love this app. The app is ultimately the coolest app ever, but i have an issue with closing it. The app won’t swipe up to close. It kinda locks in and i have to shut down the entire phone to close the app.

### 5/5 — too cool

*2014-07-07*

The auto bus would be nice. But this is just too cool!!!!!!!!

### 5/5 — Great idea, good value, lots of fun!!!

*2013-07-26, version 1.0*

This is a great app, and the fact that it exists makes me very happy indeed. It's not expensive, and is lots of fun - I suspect that John Cage would approve. The quality of the samples is really good, and perhaps it will tempt a few people to prepare their own pianos. If you're a serious musician you can even purchase the full set of prepared piano samples.

### 5/5 — Nice Tribute to John Cage

*2012-09-05*

Very enjoyable to play with and you don't have to stick foreign objects inside your piano! I like how you can upload a recording that you create onto the John Cage website to share with others. The ability to hook up a MIDI Keyboard controller to play the prepared piano sounds would be a very nice enhancement to this app.

### 5/5 — Hmm?

*2012-09-01*

" john is long since gone & I'm reading on my own how the world loves a cage , when kings die some kingdoms fall....."

### 5/5 — No accident

*2012-09-01*

Nice and simple.

### 4/5 — Great Experimental App

*2013-04-17*

Just found this app, much respect for John Cage and I really appreciate getting to work with his prepared piano! Would be really great for Midi control like the others said (core and/or virtual.) The Audiobus sdk is out now, I think its implementation with this app would be stellar. The only other suggestion I have would be an option to arrange the notes in order, this would be great to hear other tunes in the John Cage way! Oh and possibly a way to export the recordings with audiocopy or e-mail (Audiobus would solve this.) Thank you for bringing this to my iPad.
