Most diary apps for kids ask for an account before your child writes a word. Jotting Journal doesn't. Set it up once, on the device, and it's done: no sign-up, no cloud sync, no subscription to manage. A private, offline diary with a notes section too. TWO WAYS TO WRITE Diary entries come with an optional mood and decorative stamp, for whatever happened that day. Notes are separate, for anything that isn't a dated entry. Both sort into custom categories, and the calendar pulls up any day at a glance. Five themes let your child make it feel like their own. ONE THING TO KNOW A PIN keeps the journal private inside the app. It does not encrypt the data stored on the device, so if someone has full access to the device's files, the PIN won't stop them. That's the same model most diary apps in this category use. There is no password reset. If your child forgets the PIN, the only way back in is to erase the journal, and without a backup you cannot get that writing back. The app asks you to save one once there are a few entries, and you can save a backup from Settings at any time. The app now reminds you to save a backup once there is real writing to lose. Help inside the app said a backup could not be loaded back in. That was out of date: it can, from Settings, and the answers about forgotten PINs and moving to a new phone now say so. ### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-03 You can now restore from a backup. A backup saves as a real file you can keep in Files or send to yourself, and Restore brings the diary and notes back if your child ever has to start over. Tapping any day in the calendar now writes an entry for that day. Changing the PIN has a Cancel button. Very easy PINs like 1234 are no longer accepted, and several wrong tries cause a short wait. Removing a category keeps the writing in it. Those entries move to General. The PIN screen now uses the theme your child picked. ### 1.1.1 — 2026-07-25 A few small touches. The Coral theme is a softer shade than before. The other themes are unchanged. In the calendar, the highlight on today's date now matches the theme your child picked, instead of always being pink. And the heart on the app icon is a little rounder and friendlier. ### 1.1 — 2026-07-21 A new look. The app icon and the screen you see while the app opens are both new. The Raspberry theme is a softer shade than before. The other four themes are unchanged. The tab icons at the bottom now follow whichever theme your child picked, instead of staying fixed colors.
