Journelly lets me utilize syncing between devices and capturing thoughts on the go, including checklists, lists, photos and more. The fact that it’s also stored in org markup is fantastic; I can easily put this into my workflow for further refinement later if I choose. It would be great if we could add headlines to give emphasis inside of a journal entry, but other than that I’m super happy and am already thinking of ways to incorporate this into my workflow. One that popped into my head while I’m writing this is tagging posts with #public, and then automating posting those posts to social media potentially, while keeping the rest for my eyes only. Configuration is straightforward, using it is intuitive (and great looking), and Emacs org users will feel at home. It’s unusable! ### 3/5 — Markdown support and writing *2026-02-22* Perhaps I approached this app the wrong way. I wanted a markdown app that would write journal and notes entries to iCloud folders or wherever I set the storage to. This app will not do basic markdown formatting. It seems to me it should support some of the markdown formatting like headers. At this point it’s not an app I could use daily even for quick updates since I can’t format the text at all. ### 4/5 — Journelly *2026-07-24* Does what it promises to do, and does it well. I especially like how fast it is to incorporate images. The iCloud setup is easy, which means that getting Journelly notes into my org-roam db and refining them later is a breeze. Alles was man schnell mal pinnen will, einfach umsetzen. Allerdings ist das zunächst kein USP von Journelly. Entscheidend ist das Ablageformat, denn es ist nicht proprietäre, ich kann es auch z.B. auf Linux lesen und auswerten. Damit hat das ganze großes Potential für die Zukunft. Die Basisfunktionalität funktioniert bereits gut und stabil. Wenn noch weitere Features und vor allem Schnittstellen hinzu kommen, kann das richtig gute werden. Als nächstes müssen dringend alternative Dateisystem neben der iCloud unterstützt werden, z.B. Nextcloud. Viel Erfolg wünsche ich dabei! **Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback! Simply have your note taking application open to the iCloud document. ### 5/5 — Simple way to capture phone thoughts. *2026-05-17* If you’re looking for a simple app to capture images, todos and thoughts on your phone, this is a decent option. Its superpower is that it generates a plaintext (org mode or markdown) file that can be synced to your computer via iCloud. This app solves two big pain points of a plaintext productivity system: mobile, and images. Unlike most (all) other similar apps, this handles images super gracefully, and it looks great on mobile. If you’re an org mode fanatic in a museum, for example, this is the app you need. Similarly, if you live in markdown and are looking for a “jot it down and assess it later” app, and also want to keep a food journal, or track the growth of a houseplant, or the books you need plus photos of where they are in the stacks, this would do the job. The only thing it can’t do is push you reminders about upcoming todos—which, to be fair, is not something in its design scope. ### 5/5 — I use it daily *2026-05-15* Great simple app, I use it all the time in conjunction with Working Copy to sync with my org files across devices. I make lists, fleeting notes, and journal entries quickly and easily from my phone. Quick and easy to access edit and review. It’s minimal and uncluttered and I couldn’t be happier.
