The sound doesn’t work, the controls are janky, leaderboard and forum are broken, and it crashes randomly a lot. I still play it but that’s in spite of the bugginess ### 3/5 — Passes time *2024-07-10* The graphics are relatively faithful to the game. Basic functionality is there but there are some bits that don’t work correctly. You cannot joust the teradactyl in the mouth to kill it. It just always kills you. You cannot bounce off the cliff, it just stops you. If you touch the lave you cannot escape by flapping hard to get out, you just die. The teradactyl occasionally hangs around on the next level. Especially level 5. Needs controller support ### 3/5 — Better *2023-06-15, version 2.2* I don’t know if my phone was buggy, but the problem I had before with the controls not having the bird sliding properly now works properly. So I had a bit more of a play and it looks good. The only problem is, your character can’t go as high as it can in the arcade game. This would be a problem in later levels because you need to go high to defeat the birds that show up on level 16. ### 4/5 — Great game made just like the original *2023-02-02* I was very hesitant to buy since there were no other reviews in Japan App Store and very details on the page for this app at the App Store. The developer of this app (Timothy R.) has given us no way to contact him. Anyway, the game plays just like the original thus far. The sounds and effects seems just like I played so many years ago. I wish I had game controller. I imagine it would work for this game but I don’t know, sorry. Touching the screen takes some getting used to; tapping to flap the wings and the left and right direction takes the longest to get used to, but it all works. Thanks for developing; please keep it up to date. In addition, the game is not cheap, but no ads are displayed at any time. That is cool. ### 3/5 — I want to love this, but needs work. *2022-12-27, version 2.1.0* Joust is my all time favorite video game. I was so excited to see it in the App Store. Then I tried playing it. The onscreen controls are very difficult to use. I would love to see support for Bluetooth controllers (PS4, PS5) and a MacOS Version. **Developer response:** Hi there, thank you for your recent feedback. My only gripe would be that we need directional buttons for facing left or right. It’s hard to navigate. ### 1/5 — Needs work *2021-11-27* This game needs some work! It doesn’t have a virtual joystick so its impossible to know where the left/right or the wing flapping actions are supposed to be. It also lacks variable speeds so you’re either going full speed or stopped. Super annoying and not on par with the joust game from Midway arcade a few years ago. ### 4/5 — Nostalgia *2021-11-12* I loved this as a kid. Game stays true to the original. One suggestion, I would like to see a way to use the new Bluetooth controller with the game. I have found the tap left and right hard to get accurate and my thumbs blocked the screen. ### 3/5 — Joust Review *2021-09-19* Joust is one of my favorite games of all time and the midway arcade version from a few years ago was the best to come out. This one is def the best out T this time however the controls are a bit clunky. They could have given us a digital joystick or least two different ways to navigate like digital Dpad, this game is not free. Also the mechanics are a little clunky, speed slows down if you hold the button which I have never experienced. If you can conquer these defects you can reign the sky’s once again. Room for improvement would be options to make slightly visible buttons, to adjust screen size and reversing button layout. Two player would be amazing as well! It’s a Good game. Unfortunately it seems to crash a bit more then I’d like to admit. You could be playing and off it goes or if you try to place your name on leadership board…again, crash. Hope the developers look into this and haven’t abandoned the game.
