### 5/5 — Excellent app for tracking

*2021-02-18, version 9.0.0*

I love this app so far. No endless scrolling to find the right food, easy to set your daily goals. Looking forward using this for tracking my clients as well. I’ll update after getting that side of the app as well.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2021-01-20, version 9.0.0*

I love this app. Makes tracking my food so easy. Even on the go! I am able to scan food right in even when I’m on the move! I like how easy it is to meal prep by planning days in advance! This app keeps me accountable and easily helps me reach my daily goals.

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2020-10-05, version 6.12.0*

I never review apps but this is so amazing I had to make sure everyone considering Joy knows how amazing it is! I have used MyFitnessPal for years and Joy solves all the annoyances I had with that app. I love that you can choose any quantity of what you’re tracking without having to make it a fraction of what the original serving size is. I can scoop out however much I want, punch in the weight, and Joy does all the work of calculating! I love that I can set specific macro goals and it will tell me how much of each I have left for the day in addition to calories. I also love that you can set different goals for different days/situations, and create your own categories of meals. My only complaint is that the simple, clean design and text can be a bit hard to read at times, and it takes a minute to figure out how to use it, but once you get it, it is SO easy!

### 5/5 — Finally the right app

*2020-09-30, version 6.12.0*

I’ve been waiting for a better health and nutrition tracking app. All other apps cater to one specific type of eating while Joy is able to handle anyway you approach your nutrition. Change your target goal for the day easily and on the fly, quick logging of new foods and easily access your recents. Love it. And as a coach I can track and modify my clients - finally!!

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2020-09-22, version 6.12.0*

This app is exactly what I need personally and in my health coaching practice. It’s super easy to use and they have amazing customer service. I like how they practice business. No selling of info.

### 5/5 — Amazing Macro Tracking

*2020-07-31, version 6.1.0*

This app is amazing - it has everything you didn’t know you needed in a tracking app. I love being able to set my goals each week, I love that it lets you make changes to pre-recorded barcode items (sometimes the barcodes are off a little) it shows macros on the screen as you search, it counts down on the journal screen as you go, my coach can have access to see my logs...not to mention is just looks pretty! Highly recommend 👍🏻

### 5/5 — This has everything I need

*2020-07-08, version 6.1.0*

Finally found a food tracker app that does everything I need in one place. I can track my food easily, the search feature never disappoints, and it’s so easy to customize. My coach has access to it all, so they can watch my progress and help guide me without me having to constantly fill out food journals. Plus, the company keeps all my info and data private and secure, which can’t be said for a lot of apps.

### 5/5 — Unparalleled user experience

*2020-07-08, version 6.1.0*

I have tracked my nutrition multiple ways over the years - classic (and manual) pen and paper, “connected” scales with lackluster front ends, recipe index cards, etc. Joy is hands down the easiest, fastest, and most convenient tracker I have found. Don’t sleep on this app. Whatever your health and nutrition goals, you absolutely need Joy in your life!

### 5/5 — The best I’ve used so far

*2020-06-19, version 6.0.4*

I have used MyFitnessPal, loseit, and a couple odd ones and this one is my favorite by far, the 30 day trial is a great way to introduce it and you don’t have to put in a card so it won’t automatically charge you once your trial is up. But if you do decide to go to premium, it’s only like 5 bucks a month!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2019-12-17, version 2.3.0*

Minimal, flexible, customizable and with more to come! Very excited to use this app going forward!

### 5/5 — love the minimalism!!

*2019-03-15, version 2.3.0*

i absolutely love the minimalist look. i do think that the layout and overall simplicity to use could be improved. i wish you could set a certain amount of calories without having to set it each day.

### 5/5 — basics covered

*2017-09-01, version 2.2.0*

I find this app easier to understand only after using other fitness tracking app but wanting to remove the bloat. Im not interested in friends joining me in what my body feels like through diet so a simple scan and track app is useful for me.

### 5/5 — Better (and cheaper) than MyFitnessPal

*2017-05-12, version 2.1.0*

Simple, powerful app without all the social and advertising BS of MFP. I've lost 10 pounds of fat and gained around 6 pounds of muscle using this app. It's easy to store recipes and calorie goals. The templates are fantastic. You can get as detailed as you want with your macros or just use it to count calories. They have all of the foods that MFP has. I've only had to add one food over the last month (it was a weird pasta from one of those health food stores)and it was simple, plug-n-play off the nutrition info. Stuff from Trader Joe's is all there. After the 30-day trial I was hooked and had to get the monthly subscription. At 1/5th the price of MFP this is a no brained.

### 5/5 — Best calorie tracker I've used.

*2017-03-23, version 2.1.0*

I've looked for a calorie tracker that was customizable enough to fit my needs while not having needless bloat for quite a while. I don't need or want my calorie tracking app to be social or have a dozen ads. This fits perfectly. Simple elegant interface and it does precisely what it needs to do!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2017-03-10, version 2.1.0*

Joy has an attractive and intuitive interface and tons of useful options. You can quick-add macros (not just calories), you can filter your food search so that it brings up only USDA data, you can easily save any meal as a recipe, you can customize meal names, you can click and drag foods from one meal to another, you can track micronutrients, and you can set different macro targets for different days of the week. Also, Silvio, the app's creator, responds promptly to bug reports.
I've used MyFitnessPal and MyMacros+, and Joy without a doubt compares favorably to both of them.

### 5/5 — Flexible, minimalist diet tracker

*2017-02-25, version 2.0.2*

I feel like I've tried every diet tracking app out there. This is by far the best. Minimal (no crap, no ads, no pop-ups or other useless junk) and totally flexible. I have different macro goals every day and can change it on the fly if necessary (like if I don't make it to the gym after all). I can track things without adding them to the library. Recipes are handled perfectly and easily. You can share meals between Joy users (crucial in my house) or even send links to meal info to non-Joy users. The food library is accurate. I LOVE the "quick meal" feature, where you can add calories to your day without adding the food to the actual library. I can't think of a single thing I wish it would do that it doesn't do, except sync with Fitbit. That doesn't really matter much though - I just keep track of calories burned in Fitbit and calories eaten in Joy.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — It used to be good, now abandoned

*2022-11-30, version 9.0.0*

Sad, this was the best food tracking app out there. Now when I try to select kg or pounds it just fails and tells me it can’t update my profile. Oh well. Everything comes to an end I guess. I just wish I knew of a good replacement.

**Developer response:** Hi there — Just letting you know the app is under active development. We've not only fixed this annoying bug, but we also launched a ton of features, including workout and exercise tracking.

I hope you give it another look and keep the feedback coming. — Silvio (Founder)

### 1/5 — Supported this for years. Latest version doesn’t even launch

*2022-02-15, version 9.0.0*

I don’t get it. I was reminded that I am paying for this app just last week. Went to reinstall and launching it all I get is the login screen. I was an early adopter years ago on android. This is a great app but it no longer gets past the launch screen. A shame.

### 3/5 — Great but needs work

*2016-06-04, version 1.8.0*

This is a great alternative to MyFitnessPal. I prefer it because of the lean gains support and minimalistic interface. I'd switch to completely if it weren't for the awful search. I literally can't find anything. For instance try searching for a Chipotle bowl with guacamole, chicken, and barbacoa. Easily found on MFP but not in Joy. If you're searching for something simple like an egg you'll have no issue. But complex combination of terms don't work. Otherwise I love the features and would use this and pay for it.

### 4/5 — Comprehensive + great customer service

*2021-05-13, version 9.0.0*

I’ve used the WW (Weight Watchers) app on and off and I’d say this app surpasses that one in many ways (visibility to macro nutrients; flexibility in choosing serving sizes and units of measurement; “Notes” feature)

I’ve also been impressed with their customer service, which turns around a reply almost instantaneously, much to my amazement. I’ve had a couple of times where I didn’t understand how to input something and they’ve been on it immediately.

My health coach/dietician also has access to all my data so she can track me in real time, and reach out in between our biweekly sessions if the thinks I might need a boost or some accountability.

The reasons I didn’t put 5 stars are:
- I generally don’t give out 5 unless there are no more improvements to be made (a rarity)

- The app can’t pull my activity from my Apple Watch (yet — according to my coach, this is a feature they’re working on.)

- The user interface isn’t as intuitive as WW, and also, I’d love to be able to click on a checkbox every time I drink a glass of water,
as opposed to aggregating it all and dumping it in at dinner or some other meal. WW allows you to do this.

These are relatively minor issues, though, and I’d rather have transparency and great customer service than the obfuscation that the WW engage in sometimes.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2020-06-20, version 6.0.4*

Great app!

### 5/5 — Simple, Effective, and Always Improving

*2025-12-18, version 12.46.0*

I was first introduced to Joy back in 2020 and initially used it with my clients. Over the past three years, I’ve been using it much more consistently for my own personal tracking, and it’s become a tool I genuinely enjoy using. I love the clean design and the straightforward, user-friendly interface—it’s intuitive without feeling overwhelming. The reports and recipe features are standouts for me, and I really appreciate how receptive the creators are to feedback. It’s clear they’re always listening and actively working to make thoughtful improvements to the platform.

### 5/5 — Highly effective and simple

*2025-12-16, version 12.46.0*

Joy helps me achieve my fitness goals whether it be cutting, bulking, or maintaining. Very easy to use and far preferable to MFP. I highly recommend Joy for people new to tracking and experienced fitness enthusiasts alike.

### 5/5 — Fantastic. Highly recommend.

*2025-12-16, version 12.46.0*

Easy to use, and I love the TDEE average provided.

### 5/5 — Lost 20 lbs

*2025-12-16, version 12.46.0*

Great product!

### 5/5 — Simple bang for buck tracking

*2024-07-06*

Been using this app for 4+ years now. It’s simple, has all the futures you need to track meals, with no fluff. Support has been great, quick responses to questions. The best value tracker I’ve found on the App Store!

### 5/5 — EXCELLENT FOOD & WORKOUT TRACKER!

*2024-03-25, version 11.7.5*

I’m new to JOY but not new to food logging. I’ve been a long time My Fitness Pal user and I recently started using JOY. I love that EVERYTHING is right here in one spot!

I can log my daily food, workouts and track progress with great detail. I’m a Nutrition Coach and I am starting to switch my clients over from MFP to JOY because it’s more on point re food calorie/content. I noticed when I started logging my food on JOY a significant difference compared to MFP. JOY uses USDA info for their database so it’s way more accurate. JOY also has the option to not only log workouts but log specific exercises, sets & reps which can be used to track performance progress as well. It’s also way more user friendly then MFP un that respect.

I’m overjoyed I found JOY!

### 5/5 — Wowowowow we’re back boys!!!

*2023-10-12, version 11.7.5*

This is far and away the best food tracker in existence. The only one that doesn’t try to “do it for you” and instead lets you set your macro and micro targets exactly how you want on the exact days you want. Easily the best food tracker on iOS and has been for years. There was a period where development had slowed and I thought the app was abandoned but it seems we are still in business!!! Thanks to Silvio for giving us all the chance to benefit from his fantastic work.

### 5/5 — Updated to five stars again

*2023-03-13, version 11.0.0*

Whatever happened it’s fixed. The best calories counter that allows you to track macros. It’s fast. It’s quirky sometimes. Just get to learn to use it and it’s 100x better than MyFitnessPal. The app is basically just the web interface so technically you get the exact same experience on a browser than in the app.

### 5/5 — So far so good

*2022-12-20, version 9.0.0*

It’s so simple and i love it

### 5/5 — Better than I thought

*2022-11-28, version 9.0.0*

Surprised how nicely designed this app is. It is intuitive and simple to use. The database is much larger than I thought it might be too. Inputting new foods was confusing at first but not that hard to understand. Paying for the app, I’d like to see a little bit more robust search results. There are too many foods that come back which aren’t relevant, I.e., mint fingers results in chicken fingers.
