### 5/5 — Ich bin sehr zufrieden!

*2026-04-19*

**Developer response:** Danke 🙏

### 5/5 — Must have für High End Streamer

*2026-04-19*

Marcin

### 5/5 — Vastly improved sound

*2026-04-18*

I switched to this from Roon. That has a decent UX but always sounded thick to me. JPLAY Is less good on UX but leagues ahead on sound.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for switching to JPLAY and for taking the time to share your impression — it really means a lot. Sound quality is what we obsess over every day, so hearing that it's paying off for you is the best feedback we could get.

When it comes to UX, Improvements are landing in every release, and more are on the way. If you ever have specific suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out — user feedback genuinely shapes our roadmap.

### 5/5 — Great sound

*2026-03-31*

As a long term user of Roon, finally decided to take the plunge and try JPLAY. The sound is noticeably a step up from Roon, but requires a little more library management for one’s local files due to the use of minimserver. Regardless, it’s worth using minimserver as it forces you clean up your library. Will continue to use JPLAY for the foreseeable future

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear you're noticing the sound quality difference. Enjoy the music!

### 5/5 — Der Klang ist unglaublich

*2026-03-24*

Marcin

### 3/5 — Cost prohibitive

*2026-03-19, version 1.4*

App seems great from what I saw during the trial. But dropping a 50 spot is a bit wild. Make it a $4-$5 monthly thing and I’m down.

### 4/5 — Very nice app

*2026-03-16*

Love your app. Use with Melco transport. Possible to add an option like « New/Last import » Each new import into a new TAG. It’s a proposal. Thanks

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you so much for the kind review and for using JPLAY with your Melco!
A feature you’re describing is already planned and will be available in the next update. Stay tuned!
Thanks again for the suggestion and your support!
Marcin

### 5/5 — Klang

*2026-03-15*

Marcin

### 4/5 — Fantastic music control app

*2026-03-10*

I’m genuinely surprised by the low ratings for this app as during the 2 week free trial I’ve had nothing but solid reliable playback with my WiiM ultra. JPLAY is a control app for local music (server), or streamed (Qobuz etc), so ideally needs a server to be run elsewhere. However, I found JPLAY can see, and use, my music SSD attached to the WiiM ultra so the additional local music server wasn’t needed. So simple to have the WiiM ultra acting as the server, and playback device, with JPLAY controlling everything! JPLAY offers the best playback features of any similar app I’ve tried, the same goes for music discovery. My Qobuz and local libraries are combined, just like in Roon, and searches are done across all sources. Actually the whole experience is like a mini Roon but JPLAY cannot offer everything that Roon does, such as DSP, as its only a control app. People talk about the better sound quality of JPLAY and in my experience it sounds the same as any other similar app, after all its a control app and doesn’t touch the audio files! Others may disagree.

The one big issue with JPLAY for me is you can spend weeks getting all your tracks rated, favourites sorted, playlists etc on one device and it will NOT be automatically updated on a second device. You can do a manual backup and restore, between devices, but that’s a faff and I would like to see this done automatically, via iCloud. Updates seem to be regular and while the price is expensive I do feel JPLAY is worth the investment. I shall subscribe for a year and see how the app develops before deciding if I shall pay for a lifetime license.

Overall an excellent app and highly recommend!

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you so much for such a detailed and thoughtful review! It’s great to hear JPLAY is working so well with your WiiM Ultra setup.
Regarding automatic sync between devices — this is something we’ve looked into carefully. Unfortunately, implementing real-time iCloud sync is technically very complex and would inevitably add background overhead that could negatively impact playback performance, which goes against our core philosophy of keeping the audio path as clean as possible.
It’s also worth noting that with UPnP, only one control point (app instance) should be actively controlling a renderer at any given time. So in practice, we’d recommend picking one device as your primary JPLAY controller rather than running it on multiple devices simultaneously.
That said, the manual backup/restore option is there precisely to help with device migration when needed, and we’re always looking for ways to make it smoother.
Thanks again for your support and enjoy the music!
Marcin

### 5/5 — Amazing tool!

*2026-01-25*

JPLAY is awesome and continues to be improved. Congrats to all developer team.

**Developer response:** Thank you 🙏

### 5/5 — Hervorragend

*2026-01-13*

JPLAY lässt so manche OEM App alt aussehen.

Lieber Marcin, bitte mach weiter so.

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for your review! We’re sorry to hear you’re having trouble restoring your purchase.
Please try the following: open JPLAY, go to Settings, and tap “Restore Purchases.” Make sure you’re signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase.
If the issue persists, please contact us at contact@jplay.app and we’ll help you get it sorted out right away.
Thanks!
Marcin

### 5/5 — pas intuitif mais ça marche !

*2025-11-12*

### 5/5 — Roon without the pain and some of the features…that I don’t need

*2025-10-04*

Just saw this recommended on the hqplayer website.
If you have a spare iPad a Plex or other dnla server and tidal or qobuz this is a breeze and is so far really impressing me.
Roon has more features …but also a steep learning curve and the player and zones can be complicated. This js player is so simple and finds my WiiM ultra, Plex server, qobuz and hqplayer straight away. No roon server needed and satisfies my main needs which are playing local and streaming music through WiiM ultra or even better hqplayer renderer on my MacBook.
Have a two week trial of this and roon. I hold final judgement but not surprised if I buy a lifetime of this. Thank you!

**Developer response:** Thank you 🙏

### 5/5 — JPLAY with HQPlayer

*2025-10-03*

Great companion app for HQPlayer - reduces overhead vs roon which hogs more resources. No need for a core. Able to run higher dsd rates and more complex filters on modest setup.

**Developer response:** Thank you 🙏

### 4/5 — tidal

**Developer response:** Please send us an email to contact@jplay.app including information about a streamer model.

### 4/5 — Real Roon Alternative for Some…

*2025-08-25, version 1.3.9*

My thoughts on JPlay after a couple weeks of testing.

JPlay is intuitive and easy to use. It looks good and most importantly sounds good. I notice no degradation in sound quality when using it compared to Qobuz Connect and Roon. This is not the case when using Qobuz through the native apps of some streaming devices.

JPlay is client first meaning there is no easy way to sync information between clients you use on different devices.

For example, if I setup jazzgroove.org radio stations on my Mac the changes I make don’t get synced to the JPlay client on my iPhone or iPad. This goes for Artists, songs, etc that you Like as well. Or playlists you create.

I think you can take the database from one client and replace the database on another client with it, but I have not tested this. Also, if you do this you’d have to make 1 client your primary or it would wipe out the changes made on the other client.

JPlay is very responsive and has an intuitive interface. Make sure to Select Gapless Playback setting for your rendering device.

MinimServer is fast and efficient, but it is not capable of identifying and loading up album art for files that are missing it. Roon and Plex do this well. Or at least I haven’t figured out how to do that yet with MinimServer.

I’m going to look at DLNA/UPnP servers like Plex or Squeezelite as alternatives to MinimServer.

JPlay is a solid app. I can see it growing to be more feature rich, but it’s got a ways to go to get to where Roon is in terms of local library meta data management, client synchronization, and multi room capabilities.

If you’re only using Roon for Qobuz or Tidal, and/or local library integration, don’t need multi room or cross device synchronization capabilities, and don’t have streamers that work with Qobuz Connect or Tidal Connect, JPlay is a solid option.

If you only use Qobuz or Tidal and have a device that’s supports Connect I would use that option over JPlay (or Roon).

JPlay will be replacing Roon for my streaming music purposes (80/20 Qobuz local library and web radio).

I didn’t convert to a lifetime license before the end of my trial period and now have the 1 year subscription. I think of you do this you get a $50 discount on the lifetime subscription. Don’t quote me on that.

I’ll likely pick up the lifetime subscription. I hope JPlay continues to develop the app and add functionality.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Slow close to perfection but with an epic fail

*2026-07-11*

The app interface is fabulous, extremely well done. I was very excited to start using this platform after seeing how professional it looks. The sad reality is that it is an absolute shìt show for playback. It can’t play music for more than one track before it goes into a ridiculous buffering cycle chopping the music up non stop. What a massive shame. If the developer can sort this out I’ll absolutely come back to using the app but for now, the playback is a total mess.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the kind words about the interface, and I'm sorry the playback experience let you down. Shame you didn't reach out to support first — we're always happy to help.

### 1/5 — Abo als Test…

*2025-11-20*

Sehr gute App.

**Developer response:** there is a 2-week free trial period. You have to subscribe to be able to use the app, but you WON'T be charged during 14-day free trial period. You can cancel the subscription at any moment during the 14-day trial period if you do not wish to pay for the yearly subscription.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work on my iPad mini2

*2025-07-05*

The app crashes after startup. I get the JPlay logo and then after 5 seconds it crashes. I am using iOS v12.5.7.

**Developer response:** Minimum requirements are iOS 13. We will update this with the next build. Sorry for the inconvenience.

### 1/5 — Coupure régulière, appli inutilisable

*2025-06-15*

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback.

Please note that this is not an issue caused by the app itself — it’s a network-related problem. The JPLAY app simply sends the track’s URL to your streamer, and the streamer is responsible for the actual playback. If you’re experiencing regular cutouts, it means that the network connection to your streamer doesn’t have sufficient bandwidth or stability.

We recommend checking your network setup, especially the connection between your router and the streamer, as this is the most common cause of such interruptions.

### 1/5 — Most useless app money can buy

*2025-05-16*

This is the most unpredictable app. Most of the time it doesn’t work . While the idea behind making the app might be ambitious, I don’t think developer has done enough to test the app before releasing it in App Store for a price ! It would have been great if it was released free for a year and developer fixed all bugs !

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your opinion. Could you please specify what exact issues you’re experiencing? Our support team would be happy to assist you and help resolve any problems.

Best regards,
The JPLAY Team

### 1/5 — Non-starter

*2025-04-03, version 1.2.9*

Doesn’t even find my Moode devices on the network. Even most free apps can do this!

### 1/5 — Simply does not work

*2025-02-28, version 1.2.4*

The app keeps insisting my Qobuz favorites have been imported when they have not. Canceled trial literally 15 minutes after download. Don’t waste your time.

### 1/5 — Now way to test the product

*2025-02-19*

I downloaded this app but I have no idea if it will work with my HiFi but as soon as you open it you are invited to either subscribe or make a one off purchase. This is madness who would buy this with first testing to see if it is suitable and plays correctly?

**Developer response:** there is a 2-week free trial period. You have to subscribe to be able to use the app, but you WON'T be charged during 14-day free trial period. You can cancel the subscription at any moment during the 14-day trial period if you do not wish to pay for the yearly subscription.

*2025-01-18*

The ear app is an app made for information collection for hacking. The producer is Martin Ostapovic, a Polish hacker. It is a famous hacker in Japan. And the ear app is not a music app, but for information collection for hacking, and it's really funny to say that the earple is good music. Because if you use an earpple, you will experience hacking. And the app is often hacked by errors and will be collectively hacked by the same colleagues. Music is a sound that comes out while dying while killing the life of the life of the devices on the device you are using. It will be amazing at first, but later, you will also experience hacking and the sound of the sound of the equipment parts you use. If you use the hacker's app, you will become a big deal.

### 1/5 — The developer of the earple is a hacker and you should be careful of hacking. It advertises as such

*2025-01-06*

The musicality of the earple is completely messed up, and the more you use it, the more annoying it is, and the more you use it, the more colorful music does not come out, but the crenched music sound, the internal electronic chips are dying, and especially when you continue to use the earbuds, regular hacker attacks will come to attack. The earpple is a word, hackers acquire important information from users, and the same hackers sympathize and like it, so they like it, so users use it because the moaning sound of the electronic chips is amazing at first, but when they use high-end DAC and high-end audio speakers, the reality comes out. The earpple is a hacking app made by hackers for information collection. It's not a music app. So you should refrain from using it and avoid subscribing. Users who can try it. Please be careful.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent for HQPlayer

*2026-08-26*

There is native support for HQplayer, which replaces the HQP app on IPad. The app is very intuitive and easy to use.

Would be good to have a monthly subscription model

### 5/5 — World’s best music software

*2026-08-18*

When all factors are taken into account; user interface, quality of customer service, updates, performance in regards to stability, cost, and of course sound quality, Jplay is the best I have used. I am a Roon lifetime subscriber and I barely use it anymore.

### 5/5 — The app I have been looking for all along!

*2026-08-05*

This is an excellent app. I have tried Roon (to complex, cluttered and frankly quite ugly) and Audirvāna (to unstable and unreliable for me), but this app blows them out of the water. It is clean and simple, yet really powerful too when needed to be. I love the way it integrates so well with Minimserver making browsing my own music just how I want it. It also plays flawlessly (and gaplessly) to all my equipment (Eversolo Play, Wiim pro and CXNv2 for those interested). One thing I would like would be iCloud syncing of the database to make it easier to switch from one device to another, but as it is I am a fan. Thanks so much for this!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the kind words. Really glad JPLAY is clicking for you across the Eversolo Play, WiiM Pro, and CXNv2, and that MinimServer browsing feels right.

iCloud syncing across devices is a great idea and one we're aware is wanted — noted here as another vote for it.

Thanks again for taking the time to write this — it means a lot.

### 5/5 — Vergleich mit mconnect

*2026-07-23*

**Developer response:** Thank you for the opinion. Can you please specify what do you mean by ‘runs badly’? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

**Developer response:** Hi,

Thank you so much for the five stars, and especially for catching these translation issues — that's exactly the kind of detailed feedback that helps us improve. We'll get these corrected in a future update.

Thanks again for taking the time to point this out.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the kind words! Great to hear you're enjoying the sound quality and the library organization features — and that JPLAY compares so well to the native Qobuz and Tidal apps in your view. That means a lot. Enjoy the music!

### 5/5 — Another surprised at the low rating.

*2026-05-31*

Tried it with my iPad, KEF wireless speakers. Far better than the KEF app. I’m enjoying listening via JPLAY app. I tried ROON but found it too complicated to setup.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for taking the time to share this, Bob — it genuinely means a lot.
You’re absolutely right that the ratings can be misleading. Unfortunately, people tend to be far more inclined to leave a negative review online than a positive one, so honest feedback like yours is incredibly valuable in giving prospective users a fairer picture.
I’m delighted JPLAY is working so well with your iPad and KEF wireless setup, and that you’re finding it more enjoyable than the alternatives. That’s exactly what we’re aiming for — great sound without the complexity.
Happy listening!

Marcin

### 5/5 — Perfect with DRUP

*2026-05-22*

Perfect player for me. No need of server. Just connect your Qobuz or Tidal account and play music. I use it with DirettaUPnPrenderer. It feels like match made in heaven. The background is black and micro-dynamics is off the charts. Apart for that it works so well with HQPlayer. Better than Roon. You can change the filter and HQPlayer settings from within the Jplay itself and no need to go to HQPlayer server. Lot of information related to HQPlayer playback is visible as well. If you want something to work with your Diretta setup then look no further.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the wonderful review! Great to hear JPLAY pairs so well with your Diretta UPnP renderer and HQPlayer setup — "black background" and "micro-dynamics off the charts" is exactly what we aim for. Glad the in-app HQPlayer controls are useful too. Enjoy the music!

### 5/5 — Nicht zu fassen

*2026-04-26*
