However it is at least consistent and challenging. ### 4/5 — Scientific words *2023-12-03* I really, really love playing this game, but when I have gotten up to level 800+ and lose because of the word “niobium”, it’s really unfair. This is not the first time this has happened to me. Once, I was over 2,000 and lost because of similar situation. Only problem is I just want Jumbline and dislike the adds popping up for their other games. Is there a way to pay a few dollars more to not get ads? If you choose the expert words at the seven letter longest word you are going to be challenged. The only gripe I have is the dictionary. At least half the time when I ask for a definition it wants to take me on to the internet. If you’re going to do the dictionary then do all the words this half and half thing drives me nuts. ### 4/5 — So ticked off! *2021-07-03* I completed 1184 levels in the 6 letter game. When I first started playing I would use cheats if I couldn’t find the big word. About level 200 I decided that I would quit doing that. I learned that if I quit playing and then came back later, I could usually figure out the word. So I got to level 1185. I couldn’t figure out the big word so I clicked on the button that I thought would take me to the next level. I was asked if I really wanted to quit the game and I said yes. So what happened? I was taken back to level 1 to start over again. Who knew that all those levels were part of ONE GAME! I wouldn’t be so ticked if I would have understood that. I went back and read the description of the game and it is unclear that each level is only a part of ONE game. Anyway this is just a little information for someone who wants to play this. I don’t really want to start over so I’m debating on whether or not to continue playing. Yes, I could play the 7 word puzzles or the 6-expert but I wanted to see how many levels I could achieve. Oh well, I like the game, er “levels”… but the lack of clear instructions cost it a star. ### 4/5 — A favorite game, but... *2021-02-18* When was the last time the word list was updated? Why is the plural of a word OK, but the singular is not? Ex: Angoras = GOOD! Angora = BAD! Even when you tap the word for the definition and the definition is singular!! I love this game, and play it daily, but many of the word choices are just out there. And others that should be there are not. Ive lost count of how many times I’ve submitted a word. Nary a response, and never added to the list . Might be looking for a new game soon. ### 3/5 — Progress or not? *2020-12-17, version 2.2.7* I was hooked on the old version on my iPad 4 and kept playing even though I had to shut it down and restart for each level. Finally caved with the new iPad and the latest version of Jumbline. Noticed three things that I wish were same as the old. Such as touch a letter and a jump to the end, running history tally of scores and adjust time to 2 1/2 minutes. Especially would like to select time, 2 minutes or no minutes not good enuf. ### 3/5 — Love the game hate the techie terms! *2020-06-21, version 2.2.4* There are so many everyday words you don’t allow but you use all these electrical and chemical words that no one ever uses except perhaps scientists! What is the purpose? Expand the vocabulary and ditch the technical terms!! ### 3/5 — Good game, but could be better *2018-10-25* This is a good game, providing a nice way to wile away some time, decompress after a busy day, and test vocabulary. The vocabulary is the problem! There are a number of legitimate words that are not accepted, and quite a few that are marginal (ex. "its" is a contraction that is accepted, but some other contractions are not; the word "nil" was not accepted, but has a clear, standard definition). In general, it's a good games, but needs some vocabulary tweaking. **Developer response:** Hi BachGirl- Nil appears in our "Expert Words" dictionary, which you might prefer! It uses the official list of tournament words, which is more than 80,000 words :) If you go to the main menu and select 'Classic' you'll see the option to enable it at the bottom of the next screen. Just press “Timed” or “Untimed” afterwards to start a new game and play using it :) ### 5/5 — Jumble 2 *2018-06-25* I’m glad this app was updated for latest iOS features alphabetical placement of words makes it easier to find more difficult ones . ### 5/5 — Best of the rest *2018-06-10, version 2.1.7* I've tried just about all of these games, and this is, hands down, the best. The only problem is that it has words, occasionally, that are accepted one time, but not another. Can't figure out why. And some words I challenge as being acceptable. I find that annoying, thus the 4 stars, rather than 5. It also allows proper nouns once in a while. They use the Scrabble dictionary, I’ve been told, which, I think, rarely allows questionable spellings. It also doesn't have words that DO exist, but aren't in its database. Words like "amerce" are in the database, while a common word like "cruet" isn't. And, for some reason, all forms of the word rape are excluded. Now, rape is a horrible thing, but so are many words, like murder. Developers rape the land, too. To me, that's censorship. I don’t expect, or want, filthy language accepted, but some that they reject are just not "bad." I report words that aren't included, but they never seem to make it into the database. And I believe that the words that apply to speciality groups shouldn’t be included, but are. Words that are archaic and no longer used are in the database while common use words often aren't. Having said its flaws, I still find it the best, and endless fun. It's too bad more people don't find this app. Everyone I've shown it to, wants it. Update: I accidentally hit the "advanced words" option and found the words were beyond ridiculous. I was upset, thinking they had changed the database of words. Brainium was terrific and let me know that I had the "advanced words" option turned on. You might want to check them out, just for fun. Take this as an FYI, in case you accidentally turn on the advanced words option, too. Update 2: I've played this game for MANY years now, and I still love it. I just wish they'd add words like cruet, rape, etc. They also started using wiktionary as its dictionary. I truly hate wiktionary. It is poorly set up, and seldom gives a good definition. For a long while Jumbline seemed to have its own dictionary, which I liked. Now, that is gone and you are directed to wiktionary. Boo, hiss. Use the one you had before. It operates in several different ways which is nice too. You can enjoy it for just a quick game or challenge your record and go addictively at it. The dictionary is a nice add-on too. Current review....the new words that were recently added have ruined this game! It has turned it into a trial of permutations to find obscure words that have no value and when looked up go to something other than the dictionary for definition. Lost my vote. I followed the developer's advise below and the expert option was not checked. Stand with current review....not the same fun game it was. **Developer response:** Hi Zilbie- It sounds like you may have enabled the "Expert Words" dictionary, which uses the official list of tournament words, many of which are obscure. If you go to the main menu and select 'Classic' you'll see the option to disable it at the bottom of the next screen. Just start a new game after disabling to play using the regular dictionary :) ### 2/5 — Annoying *2018-11-18, version 2.2.4* Uses too many non words. Does not react to finger touch so that you have to touch a letter multiple times to get it to register. ### 2/5 — Made-up words *2017-07-14, version 2.1.2* I play the timed version with 7 letters, and I'm pretty decent at it, but sometimes I want to throw my iPad out the window when I see the words that Jumbline expects. And I use the term "words" loosely. The most recent gibberish to show up was "bookoos." Since Jumbline lets you click on a word to see the definition, I did that, and got the message "no definition for bookoos." But perfectly good words found in any dictionary aren't accepted. If you want to play this game to kill time, and not to increase your vocabulary or keep your mind sharp, by all means buy it. But if you enjoy words, and you actually like to compete to see how high you can get your score before bombing out, you will be frustrated. After I wrote this original review a year ago, things got better as far as the made-up words. But sadly, now they're back. Obsolete words, Middle English words, words with no definition found, and the latest word, "kultur," which Wiktionary says is Swedish! Yet perfectly good English words that can be found in any real dictionary aren't acceptable. Very disappointing. I will be keeping track of the made-up words, and requesting that they be removed. Wiktionary definitions are bad enough, given that anyone can add anything to Wiktionary, but when they can't even be found in Wiktionary.... On 4/26, the Jumbline developers suggested making a list of words that have no meaning. And since that date, as of May 17, I have found 17 seven-letter words that can't even be found in Wiktionary, much less a real dictionary. And I don't even bother to look up meanings on nonsensical words of fewer than seven letters. Besides these seventeen, there have been several words described in Wiktionary as obsolete, others that are from languages other than English, etc. I don't have any idea who works for this developer (possibly high school students?), but obviously no one checks the words they submit. UPDATE 7/14/17: At the request of the Branium developers, I have emailed them a list of the nonsensical words with no definition that I have found in the past eleven weeks. There were 56 words. Rather sloppy on the part of the developers. ### 2/5 — What happened? *2017-05-11, version 2.1.2* Jibberish & foreign language have made this game almost unplayable. Certainly not as fun & addictive as before. Please, please get this issue fixed! Please help. ### 5/5 — Favorite anagram game *2022-05-29, version 2.2.7* I have tried several anagram games, dropped most, still play a few. But through the years, Jumbline has stayed my favorite. I only like untimed games because I play for relaxation and often while watching TV or listening to a podcast. Jumbline allows choices of level of difficulty and timed or not. The format is tidy, lined up. The game works perfectly both on my iPad and Android cell phone. This is the best deal ever for a paid game: pay once and then not ever again. Small details I like: -Yummy-sounding music and chords increasing in key depending on the length of the word -The chord you get when finding the biggest word (That's gonna be my ringtone) -The Star Tower (I wonder where the bricks come from) -The puffy, rosy clouds in the Cloud Pop Mode -The ability to see the clouds you missed The DELICIOUS-looking tiles (I wonder if they're made out of cosmic matter?) -Those tiles seem much more delicious than the ping-pong balls in Text Twist -The fact that the game's setting is not a blue background, or a red background, but THE SKY! -Heck, even the 'incorrect' sound is pleasing!
