## What is Jurnaly?

Every story on Jurnaly is written by strangers, one chapter at a time.

Someone writes the opening. Someone else writes chapter two. You might write chapter three.
Nobody knows where it ends up. Including the person who started it.

READ SOMETHING NOBODY PLANNED
Stories across twelve categories: Adventure, Comedy, Crime, Fantasy, Mystery, Romance, Sci-Fi, Scary, Thrilling, Weird, Short and Random.
Some are finished. Most are still being written, which means the ending hasn't been decided yet.

EVERY CHAPTER IS ILLUSTRATED
Not just a cover. Every chapter has its own artwork, drawn for that moment in the story, with the characters looking the same from the first page to the last.
The entire story gets fully illustrated once the story is complete.

WRITE ONE CHAPTER
You don't have to commit to a novel. Pick any story, claim the next chapter, write it, and hand it on to whoever comes next. One chapter is all it takes.

A READER BUILT FOR IT
Turn pages with a real page curl. See how far a story has come, who wrote which chapter, and how close it is to an ending.

FIND THE ONE YOU WANT
Browse by category, or search the whole library by title, character or setting. Favourite the stories you want to come back to, and rate the chapters that surprised you.

FOLLOW THE WRITERS
Comment on chapters, follow the writers whose work you like, and get a notification when a story you contributed to is finished.

SHARE IT AND SEE WHAT THEY DO
Send a story to whoever you think should write the next chapter.
Nothing pulls someone in like reading something half-finished and realising they get to decide what happens next.

FREE TO READ. FREE TO WRITE.
No story is locked behind payment. Jurnaly Premium is optional and simply removes the ads.

Love the idea of having the story come to life. Waiting for others to continue my story so I can see how it unfolds. Love it

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-20

Jurnaly now runs properly on iPad and on iPhone Duo, with layouts built for a bigger screen rather than a phone’s stretched out.

ON IPAD

Every screen has been laid out again for a tablet. The feed shows rows of stories instead of one card at a time, and categories sit two to a row.

In landscape, a story opens as a spread: the artwork fills one side, the details sit on the other. The reader turns into a book, a chapter per page, with the illustration facing the text.

In portrait, the artwork takes the top half of the story page and the chapter illustration is shown whole rather than cropped.

The tab bar becomes a slim rail on the trailing edge that collapses to a single button, so nothing sits on top of what you are reading.

ON IPHONE DUO

Unfolded, Jurnaly uses both screens. A story splits exactly on the fold, artwork on the left and the story’s details on the right, and a finished story reads like a real book, one chapter facing another. At the end, the wrap up sits on one screen and what to read next on the other.

The app’s controls move into the system’s own side column, under the clock and the signal, in the order iOS uses: back at the top, then the story’s own buttons, then the tabs. The column collapses to one button when you want the whole screen for the page.

Folded, the feed and the artwork run right to the screen’s edge, with the controls kept clear of the text.

APPLE’S OWN CONTROLS

Every icon in the app is now an SF Symbol, and the round buttons over artwork are real system glass buttons. Their colour comes from iOS, so whatever you have chosen for appearance, contrast or transparency carries into Jurnaly instead of being overridden. The tab bar lost its accent fill: the current tab is marked by a shape behind the icon, the way Apple marks a selection.

EVERYWHERE, INCLUDING IPHONE

The Who and Where of a story now show as icons beside the text rather than labels above it.

Back buttons could do nothing at all on a screen you reached from the end of another story, because there was no history behind it. Back now always goes somewhere sensible.

Thank you for reading, and for writing. Every story in Jurnaly is finished by people who never meet.
