We will definitely use it more in the future! A friend told me about JustAhead when visiting Big Bend. We downloaded the app but I really didn’t expect much. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! Using the GPS in my phone the app knew exactly where we were and talked about all the history of structures, the region and so much more than I could have imagined. My friend group found this app a few years ago when we started taking week-long National Parks trips. As you drive through the parks, the app GPS tracks where you are going and tells you about all the sights and views that are coming up. It gives you so many facts, stories, and information that has truly enhanced all of our trips. I'm not joking, we love this app so much that I reached out to Just Ahead and asked if the narrator could record a toast for my Maid of Honor speech in my best friend's wedding. And it was AMAZING. Do yourself a favor and download this app!! ### 5/5 — Never Stop Using Just Ahead *2023-10-30* My husband and I used Just Ahead our first time in 2017 to Big Bend National Park. It is a huge park and we were fascinated with the history of the park and its people, the geologic explanations of the mountains and volcanoes, as well as the animals and plants we had never seen before. We used Just Ahead in Rocky Mountain NP which gave us something to talk about after each “bubble” of info. At one point we were told that around the next curve would be a place that elk like to hang out and the elk were there! Last weekend my friend and I went to hike Big Bend and listened to Just Ahead. We heard the same highlights, but this time our goals were different than with the spouse. We found a great place to hike(The Chimneys) with pictographs and petroglyphs! I absolutely Love this app!! You should try it!! ### 5/5 — So great! Worth every penny. *2023-10-09, version 3.2.2* I bought the one year subscription which gives me access to all the National Parks on the list because I love to travel. I used it in Yellowstone today. I’ve been to this park 8 or 9 times. Don’t need a map anymore. But this app educated me with all the history, told me specific details about each trail to help with decision making, showed me some “secret” little detours that offered beautiful vistas. It was like having a private tour guide who’s an expert on the park. Tomorrow I’ll use it for Grand Teton. I’ll never visit another park on the list without using the app. ### 5/5 — Great App for the Self Guided Tour thru Big Bend! *2023-08-15, version 3.2.2* This was our first time using this app and it was great! We are newbies to exploring the National Parks and this guided us expertly through the park with lots of interesting historical tidbits and suggestions for which routes to take including difficulty levels for the hikes and other valuable info. The app claims to allow you to listen to the informative scripts without physically being there, but this function is not working and I have to physically cross over the location on the map to get it to play. The park I did listen to had little discussion or information included and did not feel worth the value charged. I wish there was a way to get a refund. ### 1/5 — Awful *2023-06-25, version 3.2.2* Tried to use it in sequoia, kings canyon and Yosemite. It don’t work more than half the time, just wouldn’t have any audio. There was never an option to listen to any of the marks we were not in that location either. Really horrible! I sent several requests to the customer service, NEVER heard back. We had used the gypsy app many times, without fail. This doesn’t come anywhere close! ### 1/5 — Rip-Off *2016-12-30* This app is a rip-off. Also, it randomly crashes while in use. For a free destination like big bend it is alright but I would not spend anything on any of the other parks. ### 2/5 — Just Okay *2023-04-29, version 3.2.2* There are a lot of directional things in here - like “turn ahead”. I bought it more for the narration and information. Also, the app says you can listen manually if you want, without driving down the road, but that’s not true. Support told me they did a map update and took that feature away. So overall, it was just okay for me. Support only gets 1 star, too. They were quite slow and didn’t respond to my last email. ### 3/5 — Well done for touring! *2022-10-16, version 3.2.2* We are an RV family and have loved using these guides along our travels. Very easy and with our vehicle, the audio switching between whatever else we’re listening to and the guides is seamless. The only drawback is that on our iPhones, there doesn’t appear to be a way to manually select and play any spots. The Help guide talks about a blue “play” icon appearing next to the spot name when you select a blue location icon, but all we get is a white hover over with the name: there is no “play” button appearing anywhere. 5 stars once this is fixed! ### 4/5 — Review *2024-06-16, version 3.2.2* I highly recommend this app to anyone I meet that is going to any of these areas. We saw so much stuff that we would have never stopped to see on our own. We learned so much more about the park and had an amazing time. The price is reasonable for the amount of content you get. The only thing is there were a couple times we had to restart the app or my phone to make it work. Nothing that was a deal breaker but enough to dock a star. ### 4/5 — Good Guides *2017-01-03* Nice app. I downloaded for a trip through Joshua Tree National Park and the app works just as described. As we passed each point the narrative would come over the car stereo describing the things we were seeing. It included info about the history of the the park, camping and hiking and current uses. Interesting facts about the area are also included. While $30 for the guide might be a bit high we are glad we spent the money. We called our tour guide Bob and the information was fantastic all along our journey through Bid Bend and the surrounding area. We learned quite a bit of interesting information about the park and its history.
